Q&A❓️ MEHE equivalency for high school certificate - foreign student

Hey all, I am looking to study at a university in Lebanon, but I know I will need to do an MEHE equivalency for my high school certificate, and I’m a bit lost on a few things. Hoping someone who’s been through it can help.

This is one thing; the other is residency, if you can help with that as well. And other things I need to do before landing in Lebanon.

Thank you all in advance!

if u studied in a foreign program (American program) then u can’t directly start with the degree of ur choice, u have to do a freshman year with extra courses before u actually start ur degree and for that u need an exemption letter from MEHE that allows u to do freshmen + sat scores

U need to go to the ministry of education with:

- certified high school diploma and transcripts (authenticated through ministry of foreign affairs from the country where u got ur degree, then u take it to the Lebanese embassy in ur country so they do it too, then finalize it in ministry of foreign affairs in Beirut)

- report cards/transcripts 10-11-12

- valid passport

Now when I came to Lebanon I was in high school so I had to get transcripts from 6th grade and onwards I’m not sure regarding coming directly to uni

Thank you, this is very helpful and matches what I found on the MEHE website. My certificate is already stamped by Bahrain education and foreign affairs, andthe Lebanese embassy stamp. Two questions if you don’t mind. Did you give MEHE the original and also a copy that was stamped as well, or just the original? And did you submit the file yourself at the ministry, or did the university do it for you? Also if you remember how long it took to get the equivalency back it would help me a lot.

I'm a foreign student in lebanon as well but graduated from an American program in Lebanon. You need to do the SAT and get certified grade 10, 11 and 12 grades and a certificate stating you have finished and graduated high school You need to certify them from your school and ministry of education and maybe ministry of exterior You enter on a visa (if you need one, depending on your nationality), then get a paper that proves you are an active enrolled student in that university (from uni, they already have them for foreign students you just need to request it) and take that paper, a copy of your passport, proof of income (omt transfers papers or bank statement) to apply for residency, pay the fees and get your residency, you renew it once a year, simple process really

Thanks a lot for replying; it really helps.

A bit about my situation: I’m coming from an Arab country (GCC) and my school is the normal local curriculum, not an American program (as far as I know). So I think the SAT part might not apply to me, right? How would I know for sure?

For the certificate, I already got the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Lebanese embassy stamps here locally. What comes next, specifically? And is there a deadline?

For residency, is it the same process, or did the university give you the enrollment paper, or did you have to ask for it? I also kinda don’t need a visa for the first 6 months, but I will have to get a student visa at some point.

I’m a bit confused about all of this, mostly because I have no advisor from the uni yet. Maybe I’ll get one after registering, but I haven’t registered yet.

Thanks again!
