Mod Announcement TSV’s latest video and what this means for the subreddit

Twoset Violin released the video It’s been a fun journey on October 13, 2026. In summary, they each have things they want to do outside of Twoset Violin, and will be focusing on those separate projects for the future. They might do something for Twoset Violin again in the future, but made no guarantees. They aren’t ending the channel and will leave all the videos up.

Currently, Twoset Apparel is having a 40% off End of Tour sale. But that ends on October 15, 2026. If you want to follow Brett and Eddy directly: * Brett’s personal Instagram account “brettybang”. * Eddy’s personal Instagram account “eddy_adventure”.

If they have other active personal accounts, please list them in the comments.

While TwoSet Violin may have gathered us together, this community has grown beyond just music memes. Many of us have picked up new instruments, or dusted old ones off, and practiced 40 hours. Some of us attended our first live classical music concerts because of TSV. Ling Ling wannabes have also supported each other through tough times with empathy, advice and comfort. Many budding musicians and composers have posted their performances, and we have provided constructive feedback and encouragement.

This subreddit will remain open. The Mod Team supports Brett and Eddy’s new journeys and will continue their goal to promote classical music and musicians.

Thank you, The LL40hrs Mod Team

Mod announcement New Post Guidance: Minimum Text Requirement on Posts

There has been an increase of posts featuring non-descriptive titles and little to no body text, sometimes only with a picture or series of pictures. These low-effort posts do little to contribute to the community. Posts with only a Title and pictures can also be barriers to people with accessibility needs, since it can be be difficult to see the details. This also can affect people who are using Reddit on phones & other devices with small screens.

Therefore, we are adding new rules to LingLing40hours which require a minimum amount of characters in the Post Title and body text. Spaces or punctuation characters on either end are not counted.

Question: How can I meet the minimum character requirement?

Answer: Ensure you’ve credited the original content creator. Use the body text to answer the 5 Ws (Who, What, Where, When, Why) and How questions. Examples are: Who are the subjects? What is going on? Where does it take place? When did it occur? Why are you posting about this? How is this important to you or relevant to LL40 Hours?

Question: What if my post doesn’t meet the minimum text requirement?

Answer: Depending on the type of post, a message about the minimum text requirement appears and you will not be able to submit until the requirement is met. The post may also be removed by AutoMod. If the post is removed, you can repost with additional information.

If you have any questions, please contact the Mod Team through ModMail. Thank you,

The LL40hrs Mod Team

So, Brett just published his first solo video. I honestly don't know what to think, but he seems genuine and vulnerable.

Watch it and decide for yourself if you want to subscribe or not.

Brett uploaded a video on his own channel, brettybang, looks like he is continuing classical music content on his own. Looking forward to what he does with his channel.

Storytime Brett is back on YouTube, and has new socials

Brett has a new YouTube channel with his first video Starting Again. He also has a new website: https://www.brettybang.com/ where you can sign up for updates. A special bonus if you sign up to his newsletter.

His social media (not sure if Tiktok is new):

Why's this tagged Storytime? Because Brett's telling the new chapter in his life.

Discussion Why are there so many people mocking twoset and saying they are not funny?

They haven't done anything wrong, they are just making jokes for entertainment. They make people love classical music. Like me. But i keep seeing people saying meh to them and saying they aren't funny. I even saw someone saying they are racist. Why?.

I think their jokes is really funny

Discussion I like Kassia more than Rousseau

we all know that piano interpretations on youtube are dominated by those two channels (and similar) with those scrolling piano notes in different colours.

But even tho Rousseau is the more famous/well-known of these types of videos, I have learnt to appreciate Kassias play over Rousseaus over many years.

I feel like Rousseaus is a little more "by the book" and Kassia likes to experiment more in their interpretations.

for example: both have uploaded their interpretation of moment musicaux No.4 from Rachmaninoff. Rousseau plays it more "clean" and Kassia plays it more chaotic (which I find more fitting for that piece)

don't get me wrong, they both know how to play but I just preffer Kassias "passion/crazy" over Rousseaus strict/academic approach

what do yall think? am I completely off-base with my labeling or do yall feel the same?

Mod announcement Reminder: Minimum Text Requirement on Posts

• Upvotes

To encourage better post quality, we are adding new rules to LingLing40hours which require a minimum amount of characters in the Post Title and body text. Spaces or punctuation characters on either end are not counted. Check the pinned post about this rule for the full reason of the change.

Question: How can I meet the minimum character requirement?

Answer:

  • Ensure you’ve credited the original content creator. Explain how you came across it.
  • Include alternative text for any attached images. Alternative text is a description of the picture. It allows people who are blind or have low-vision to understand the image with screen-reader technology. This is also useful for those with small screens or have slow connections.
  • Use the body text to answer the 5 Ws (Who, What, Where, When, Why) and How questions. Examples are: Who are the subjects? What is going on? Where does it take place or Where are you located if you’re asking for instrument /teacher advice? When did it occur? Why are you posting about this? How is this important to you or relevant to LL40 Hours?
  • if you're linking a news article, summarize the article by explaining how it's relevant and encourage people to read the full article to form their own opinion.

Question: What if my post doesn’t meet the minimum text requirement?

Answer: Depending on the type of post, a message about the minimum text requirement appears and you will not be able to submit until the requirement is met. The post may also be removed by AutoMod. Please always check your notifications after submitting content. If the post is removed, you can repost with additional information.

Discussion People who have TSV friends online or IRL - how did you make friends?

Sorry if this is a weird time to post this, I know most people are focused on processing the retirement right now.

I was watching TwoSet's video on adult beginners and noticed how many fans make friends with other fans.

TLDR, how did you do it? How did you meet? If you made friends online, how does that even work? I think I'm too old to get how people make friends online but I'm curious. Or if you made friends in other ways, what was the story?

Long version:

I'm a casual TwoSet fan who has loved their videos for a few years. Sadly only discovered them about a year before the first big retirement. But I was never very active in the fandom.

I've pretty much been a lurker online until a few years ago when I developed a chronic illness and I'm still pretty shy online. I don't have IG and I'm a bit private and shy, so I dread the idea of posting pics or videos of myself online.

I might be too old to make friends online anyway - I'm nearly 40. I dunno how many 40 year old Ling Ling wannabes there are hanging around online. I feel like I would do better making friends through a community orchestra or something but I'm housebound these days because of my health, so I'm trying to understand online life better, without getting too brainrotty.

Fwiw I can play two instruments a bit, one more than the other, or at least I would be able to if it weren't for my health. Hmm, complicated! :)

Discussion What are your favorite memories of TwoSet Violin?

Post image
102 Upvotes

I saw the news when I woke up this morning. I know they aren't technically gone for good, but it does feel like the end of an era (even more than the earlier "we're quitting cold-turkey" episode did IMO).

I started reminiscing about all the ways Brett and Eddy changed my life since I discovered their channel nearly ten years ago. This made me feel better about the situation as it reminded me about the impact their work has had, however 'silly' their work was. Perhaps it would be therapeutic for us to share our favorite memories involving them here.

My personal favorite memory involving TwoSet happened when I got to see their Sacrilegious Games show in San Francisco last year. This was the show that nearly got cancelled due to the visa debacle, and they didn't have an orchestra as planned due to the disruption. Brett, Eddy and Sophie still did a great job despite this.

At one point in the show, Eddy left the stage and sat in a darkened corner near the stage while Brett played a series of difficult violin passages. I could coincidentally still see Eddy well from my seat. I noticed that Eddy looked so supportive and impressed by Brett's playing the entire time. It was heartwarming to see how genuine Eddy's enthusiasm for his friend was, even though very few people were watching him. That moment really stood out to me.

I've attached a photo I took from my seat before the show started for reference; Eddy was sitting in the empty chair closest to the white double-exit doors by the corner stage stairs on the left during Brett's performance. Funnily enough, I distinctly remember that Brett's cursed lo-fi song was playing over the PA system when I took this photo, so that's another fun memory. Feel free to share your memories below.

Hi, I just recently got reddit, and I'm super excited to see all these posts for myself!

Anyway, this is a vision board I made recently. Originally, music was just a subtopic, but there was too much stuff to add, so I made a completely separate one dedicated to music.

Question/Advice Is this a normal hand for a pianist?

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

For context i have mostly self learned for the past 5 months with hiatuses then and there. But i have noticed that my palm is massive compared to my fingers which makes my fingers look “stubby” even tho they aren’t at least i hope.

Never have done any stretching this is just raw reach.

Probably the illusion that my palm creates.

But is this hand anatomy good for piano? Also i can reach a 9th fairly comfortably with a bit of stretching needed on the left hand but almost a 9th on the right hand. Mostly because my palm does most of the work.

And thanks to that palm i have a pianist arch naturally. End goal is different than performing but to compose Soundtracks and original pieces i need to know how to play the piano. And learn a bit more of the inside of the musical terms and techniques.

Now i finally got a teacher who is also a performer, composer and producer. i will see how much potential i have :D

P.S Should i update y’all after 3 months of practice with the teach? :P

Meme This is a meme I created: If Brett had Linonophobia. (Read downward not across)

Post image
53 Upvotes

According to absolutely no official dictionaries Linonophobia is the fear of strings.

"What's your favourite instrument"
"Pianooohh wait that's got strings inside it...
Horn"

I actually discovered this in my "a year ago you did this" thing on OneDrive, and at the time I made it I didn't got to post it, but here it is now.

Reminder: Please report posts and comments that break the rules, and do not engage

Hey, Ling Ling wannabes! This is your periodic reminder to report rule-breaking posts and comments, and to not engage with them.

We are trying to ensure that rule-breaking posts get removed as soon as possible, but we are not always able to react quickly. It would be helpful if sub members would report these posts for violating the rules, rather than commenting on them. As soon as they receive 2 reports, these posts will be removed automatically by Automod, and quarantined until a human mod can take a closer look. Certain reports are also routed to Reddit admins, if the reported items violate site-wide rules.

No one, except Reddit admins, will know who reported anything.

Also, please keep in mind that if you want to officially bring anything to the mods' attention, the best way to do that is to send a modmail.** Modmails go to all the mods at once, allowing us to have a discussion about whatever issues are brought up. DMs and chats to moderators will be ignored.

Here's some more information about reporting and what happens when you report things.

Thanks for all your help keeping this a safe and fun sub!

Discussion Brett removes twoset violin tag from instagram bio

Post image

Is this something recent? Posting here because I’d want to ask since maybe its been this way for a while (I know eddy had removed twoset from his instagram account a while back). Yeah, did anyone realise this?

I hope its nothing bad, Im sure they’ll communicate what they plan to do. They’ve been doing pretty alright with twoset these days. I could be missing something though. I just want the best for Brett and Eddy, hope they’re doing okay.

Discussion Let’s discuss classical music’s prospect with young people

Let’s discuss how to make classical music more interesting and engaging to young people. I’m trying to engage a group of people locally in my city as well as online.

-What kind of musical events would they like?
-How to develop an online platform that balances entertainment and learning?
-Where to engage? How to balance online and local engagement in classical music?
-How to make classical music more meaningful to the everyday life of young people?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

I need help, guys. I can't play the piano because my hands are, without a doubt, extremely small. Scriabin-like. What should I do? Are there any composers whose pieces I can play without any problems?

Comedy Sacrilegious image on Amazon page

Post image

So I was looking for tuners on Amazon when I came across a tuner with this image. If you’re making an item for instruments, at least make sure the person can actually play the instrument. I just realized that the description also makes no sense. “Keep the beat wherever you are with the metronome tempo of our chromatic tuner.” I have this exact tuner and there is no metronome. Sacrilegious photos are such a common occurrence now :(
