graphics/kernel/drivers I need help with Marvel Rivals

Hey guys, I’m new to this community. I recently switched to Linux, specifically CachyOS and, as the title suggests, I’m having trouble running the game.

I’m using an Acer Nitro V15 laptop:

RTX 3050 6GB

Intel Core i5-13420H

16 GB RAM

I’m using the CachyOS version of proton, but the game barely hits 40 FPS. This is strange, as I saw a video of someone with the same laptop model where the game was running at 90 - 100 FPS, the only difference being that they were using Windows.

There is about a 20% Nvidia tax when switching to Linux right now. Nova driver will fix it, but that should not be the cause of that differential. Are you on a balanced or eco power plan? Are you sure that the game is utilizing your discrete gpu?

Another detail I forgot to mention is that I use Caelestia Shell, and where the battery icon is located, you can switch between power saving mode, balanced mode, and performance mode, I chose performance mode and added steam launch parameters to use my RTX card

😂 well good to know. Do you know if they were using something like frame gen or DLSS or rendering the game at a lower res?

Check the frame gen settings and make sure the game is full screen. I also play the game and was wondering why the game would give me 60fps but i had it as a borderless windowed game. Full screen it!

if this is another 4gb gpu to play latest game - vram overhead

cut 2gb from your vram - this how much overhead use to play windows games in linux

Is this across the board? I use vram management on a 16gb card but I tend to try to max out my vram usage.

I currently have a small 50mb buffer as a stopgap for vram overflow crashes

for which card? for nvidia-rtx even connected as second gpu - there is 500mb eat by nvidia firmware - so even cuda see 500mb less than your vram - read full message and comments I linked.... there all links.... not explaining it again

Update: I managed to solve it now, I added these parameters to the Steam launch options "PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 VKD3D_CONFIG=no_upload_hvv DXVK_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="NVIDIA" VKD3D_FILTER_DEVICE_NAME="NVIDIA" game-performance gamescope -W 1920 -H 1080 -f --mangoapp -- %command% -dx12" It's not quite as good as the one in the video I watched, but it's already a victory
