The best part is that even the companies call it like that now.

For example :

Pope Francis had a lot more sense of humour than John Paul II. Francis would do pope jokes. I'd be highly surprised he objected to "popemobile".

Man, I was thrown off by the past tense here. I totally forgot that Pope Francis passed away and we have Pope Leo XIV now.

Pope Leo, who has signed at least one Popplio pokemon trading card. I do hope we continue this trend of popes being human.

If the White Sox win the World Series under his tenure, there will be an astronomical amount of interesting pope-related things since he's a huge White Sox fan.

particularly because they were complete ass before he came around, so there's a bit of divine intervention happening here now that they're actually decent.

Is it ethical for the pope to call in divine favors for his favorite baseball team?

The Voice of God just has better cell reception with his prayers is all.

I mean, granting them is still in Gods hand. But if his Speaker on earth is doing a good job I assume he can get a little bonus every now and then.

… let ye without sin…

That would be funny since the last Pope's team, San Lorenzo, finally won the big title(Copa Libertadores) they were missing while Francis was the Pope.

Yup, I'm all for bunny popes. I mean they already rule easter... so...

I agree, pernicious_penguin

"He's not saying anything..."

"Exactly"

It's the combination of supposedly being completely and utterly infallible when speaking ex cathedra while also needing to be approachable. It's a weird combination of things.

I got to meet him and yeah, he's a pretty great dude. Very 'normal'

Idk if the head of the Catholic children killing religion can ever be human

John Paul II was pope for my entire childhood, I completely forgot about Benedict XVI, and Leo has already been pope for almost a year and a half. Sometimes it's hard to keep track of papal turnover.

i mean it's not that hard, it only happens once every pope's death

(this joke makes no sense in english lmfao)

4

u/christoskal 25d ago

Did the joke change at all during the extremely rare resignation of Benedict xvi ?

u/Sir_Boobsalot 25d ago

put it in the original then. probably more than a few people here who'd get it

2

u/a_literal_idiot_616 25d ago

well italians would probably get it anyways even in this version ("una volta ogni morte di papa" is a saying for "once every A LOT OF TIME") (you can imagine all the super original memes in italy after the pope died)
