Thereās an inside joke on my hometown subreddit that died so long ago, itās now almost used as a form of prayer. Itās become a response, a chant, a formal method of signalling inclusion in the community:
āIts a dryā¦..ā
It started as āIts a dry heatā and weāve worked our way through to the obvious conclusion āIts a dry rainā and back again.
Its not funny. We all roll our eyes. We all join in. The weather is very hot most of the time. We are blessed to remain in communion with each other,
āIts hotter than Satanās arsehole out thereā
āYeah nah its a dry heat, butā
āThankgod. Iām gunna crack a cold tinnieā etc etc
Every now and then someone somehow manages to get an original riff off it, and then we all stand around and clap and marvel and overuse the Clever New Thing until weāre all sick of that as well.
Its a very small town, yes, and the weather is very hot.
Honestly what I hate is that it gets posted with some mildly mainstream character from a show that has a moderate amount of viewers as though everyone is supposed to know who that is/was.
Like bro, I haven't seen ANYTHING anime since Rising of the Shield Hero S1 in 2019, with the sole exception of Red Ranger Isekai. I'm not the only non-Anime watcher. This shit isn't obvious.
Itās not just anime, literally anything that could be discussed on that sub. Star Trek fans got mad at me when I told them that not everyone watches Star Trek and you shouldnāt expect them to know every character.
It began as a way to call out people on r/TopCharacterTropes who would intentionally not include the most obvious examples as engagement bait. It has sense been exhausted to the point that people use it whenever someone fails to include an even mildly popular example (coming in different shades of sincerity).
