Don't know what inside jokes you've been a part of, but it seems like being run into the ground until they're unfunny is a canon event for most.

There’s an inside joke on my hometown subreddit that died so long ago, it’s now almost used as a form of prayer. It’s become a response, a chant, a formal method of signalling inclusion in the community:

ā€œIts a dry…..ā€

It started as ā€œIts a dry heatā€ and we’ve worked our way through to the obvious conclusion ā€œIts a dry rainā€ and back again.

Its not funny. We all roll our eyes. We all join in. The weather is very hot most of the time. We are blessed to remain in communion with each other,

ā€œIts hotter than Satan’s arsehole out thereā€

ā€œYeah nah its a dry heat, butā€

ā€œThankgod. I’m gunna crack a cold tinnieā€ etc etc

Every now and then someone somehow manages to get an original riff off it, and then we all stand around and clap and marvel and overuse the Clever New Thing until we’re all sick of that as well.

Its a very small town, yes, and the weather is very hot.

it's like one third of my entire sense of humor. I have jokes with friends that I'm still doing almost a decade later.
