I have only progressed in Silksong this far because I bribed the fleas to chase Moorwing away, and then found that speedrunners found a way to get around Sister Splinter. That wasn't so hard. I would much rather do some tough and somewhat frustrating platforming than the alternative. I've plumbed the depths of Sinner's Road and fought my way out of the Slab, but GOSH DARN IT, do I dislike boss battles. I am currently sitting on a random zerg rush in Hunter's March, because I have momentarily given up on the Widow.
I tried to do the sister splinter skip for fun. It took me forever to get it. I cannot imagine a world where just fighting the boss isnât easier/faster lmao.
I don't think it was technically easier, but it was more enjoyable for me. And I know there are much more crazy skips out there. We don't talk about those, except to goggle at actual speedrunners doing them.
The entire reason why Silksong is a bad example is because there's other ways/ other things to do instead of bashing your head into a boss 100 times just to still die to the same bad habit you died to 50 times already and refuse to adapt (usually involving some form of contact damage).
Or you play reaper crest and take 1000 years to kill anything and just keep getting hit again trying to chase down the stupid silk orbs instead of just... hitting the boss more lol
Correct. I do have the reaper crest right now, but only because it both has good range and doesn't make you go diagonal when you try to hit something under you (something I have to do on the way to the Hunter's March arena).
Sorry that "you" was a royal you and wasn't meant to be such a direct call out xD
Play whatever crest you like at the end of the day, it's your game. There are better options but you don't have to care. It's just funny to me sometimes how mad people can get at the game when a lot of the misery is self-inflicted.
The Silksong discourse experience was funny because you play the game and you're like the guy singing Payphone having a great time going "oh my god this game is so incredibly fun" until you look at what the Internet has to say and apparently everyone else has been playing Cat Mario / I Wanna Be The Guy from hell
I got used to diagonal pogo pretty quickly and the things people said led me to believe it would be way harder but i wouldn't consider Silksong easy. It's hard without being frustrating.
I wouldnât say easy, the early/mid game is fairly punishing before you find more health masks. But definitely doable, yes. But what matters isnât really the difficulty itself, itâs whether or not that difficulty is fair, and for the most part, Silksong did a pretty good job imo. There are a couple of bullshit moments here and there, but overwhelmingly when you get hit itâs because you made a preventable mistake
I love how much hyper-specific rage is conveyed in this image lmao. Bro's crashing out at the Nintendo Wii screen that tells you to take breaks every so often.
It love how differently this could be interpreted depending on your background as a gamer / where you see this. I'm a massive souls & soulslike gamer (addicted to them) and saw this one in a souls community.
The "take a break" thing is a real advice I gave some people in the community because it can truly make a difference. You can get too angry at losing to a frustrating boss over and over again that you do worse and worse. Taking a break helps you cool down and helps your brain reset.
This is also a thing in competitive games, it's called tilting. You'll sometimes see people complain about how they tilted from Diamond rank down to Gold or something. Getting mad at a game is just gonna make you play worse 99% of the time.
This was made to target a large if specific subset of people in the itself specific subset of difficult games (soulslikes, metroidvanias, etc) who say "man this boss is tough. I'mma take a break and try again later!"
The rage aimed at the fact that when stuck, a lot of people will tell you to just take a breather and try again another point.
The amount of times I got stuck on a boss, and stepped away for a day only to come back and immediately whoop it's ass with a clear mind lol. It genuinely does help
When someone is upset they rarely respond well to people telling them to chill, even if taking a break from a difficult game that is beginning to upset you is a great way reflect and perform better once you have a level head.
Yeah, I actually sorta see a point to this because I was in a similar position. I'm a massive fan of Balatro and was trying to get the completionist achievements, but I was getting pissed off with one particular deck. I eventually realized that putting myself through that just pissed me off and made me hate the game. I don't want to take a break from one of my favorite games so I won't end up hating it, I just want to enjoy regular runs.
(For other Balatro players, I couldn't beat the black deck on purple stake. Fuck that deck and the horse it rode in on.)
Which kinda illustrates how off-the-rails the creator of that wojak was, like they were told to take a break and calm down and they took it as some kind of personal attack.
I think itâs more like theyâre pointing out how silly it is to have a hobby you need to spend your time taking breaks from. Like if the whole purpose is entertainment that shouldnât be necessary
It wouldn't be necessary if the person wasn't getting mad at the hobby. Plenty of hobbies become harder to enjoy if you're mad at it, not just video games.
genuinely good advice though. Is the game you're meant to have fun playing not being fun anymore? Take a break, go do something else you like while you calm down and process what's causing you to be stuck.
