24M, 1 month in. Gf left me :(
My first time living alone. (Rental) GF left me now 1 Month in new apartment
Trying to keep it simple & minimal. Plus easy to clean.
I have a rug but it is white and with black cat its hard to keep clean. Plus i kind of like it without.
First time mounting a tv to the wall, so i am basically a diy expert now.
Want to put some art on the walls but the light placements are awful and i can not remove them.
I also have a large circle black mirror (to wall mount) and coffee table from old place but not sure if they fit or make the space crammed
I will add pictures of the kitchen in an update.

It’s a bit much sometimes. They are incredibly clingy it gets a little obnoxious sometimes. If only one of them is sleeping on me, as soon as that one gets up, the other takes his spot lol. They will sleep on my lap for hours. I can’t imagine living without them though, I’m glad I got to keep them.

Yes. Do that til it’s normal. I recall back when I had my first apartment by myself that I spent way too much time thinking about my ex. It was bad. Months. After that, I said I’d never do it again. I’m getting divorced after 10 years (not my decision) and have spent all this time just not thinking about all of that. It’s just harder when it’s the first time I think.
It’s funny, to me, that she’s the one that drums up old wounds all the time (we have kids, can’t kill communication entirely, but I would have if we didn’t). I think she’s probably upset I got over it so quickly. She’s the one who has had a boyfriend for a year and a half at this point. I am plenty okay with being single and dating my hobbies. 🤣
The reasons are my fault, I know that and I’ve accepted it. Maybe that’s why it’s easier.

One door closes another open.
Pro-tip. Find someone you want to share your life with. Meaning , even in the bad times. That you feel you can discuss. Disagree. But still wanna be chill with each other. The love part is easy…. So find your center, on who you want to be. And how you want to share that with someone . ..
Till then. Go tinder some booty for us married dudes. Anime/cosplay girls are a thing this decade 🧐

u/ImpossibleOil8427 Nov 14 '25
Oh get over yourself. I’m a very happily married woman, and yet I still fantasise about having sex with other men (and women). It’s not like once I met my husband, I stopped being attracted to anyone else.
There is a huge difference between ‘I think about how it would be to have sex with someone who is not my partner’ and actually cheating.
Women watch porn, women read smutty books and fanfiction, women drool over celebrities too. Women also encourage other women to “have fun” after they come out of relationships…

I'm listening! So should i be "enjoying" myself or looking for my wife ahaha
12
u/First-Mistake9144 Nov 14 '25
Only you can answer what you enjoy, you might enjoy looking for a wife.
But meeting new people is fun, if you find “the one” then great, but I wouldn’t worry about particularly hunting for it yet.
Meet new people, focus on your hobbies, maybe travel. You’re at a good age to be having these experiences.
→ More replies (9)3
u/Dear_Potato6525 Nov 14 '25
Enjoy yourself for a while and then look for your wife later. Also, having fun doesn't just mean sex, it can mean meeting and dating a range of different people, figuring out who and what you like. That approach might also help you find someone who loves you as much as you love them.

Do you mind listing out the plant species you have around with the cats? Mine likes to chew and I'm worried about buying things that are toxic to her...
Thanks!
8
Nov 13 '25
If you want a large cat-safe plant look into cat palms. I got one at Home Depot for just over $20.
My cat proceeded to systematically destroy it, so it didn’t last, but didn’t hurt him at all.

u/sbnxtdoor Nov 13 '25
Sure.
So, i have researched this before and many are in fact toxic to cats. But my 2 are very good.
They do occasionally try and chew, or at least they used to a lot but the toxic ones are kept higher up.Spider plant
Snake plant (toxic to cats) - But they are very unbothered
Asparagus fern (toxic)
Swiss cheese/Monstera (toxic)
Bird of paradise/Strelitzia nicolai (toxic)
Jade plant (toxic)I have 2 more but i can not remember the names, i will edit the message when i can remember.

Honestly, it's great as a start. Nothing is super ugly or dumb looking. It's clean and organized, and there are cats and plants!
Work on: better furniture arrangements. Make a drawing of your room on graph paper. Also, cut out little scale drawings of your current furniture. Just basic rectangles, squares, circles... but make sure they are to scale with your drawing. Play with furniture arrangements using the drawing.
Hit some thrift stores and get some wall art.
Find videos by YouTuber Caroline Winkler, where she coaches specifically men on home design. She lays out design principles in a nice way, and she's fun.

Random question but how is it having that kind of storage bed? I’ve been considering getting one like that but I’m worried it may be less practical or more of a hassle than a bed with pull out drawers
3
u/a1kron_ Nov 13 '25
It may be less practical but you'll end up with much more storage space, my personal experience with both
Edit: If you plan to only store stocks, pants, and small stuff, you'll also be fine with the drawers
→ More replies (1)3
u/sbnxtdoor Nov 13 '25
I find it extremely convenient!
Of course your room and circumstances will ultimately dictate, Plus what you are going to be storing. But you certainly get alot more space than the equivalent bed with drawers and you can store things of any size.→ More replies (1)

Looks good. But, move the couch to the right and put an end table w/lamp on both ends. It looks shoved into the corner, pull away from back wall a few inches too. A coffee table and rug would look good too. Add some cool artwork above the couch. If you don't any kind of poster type art, just frame them.

In the living room can you center the TV between the two lamps? I think this is what makes it look really off. Ideally also center the couch, and hang a big art piece above the couch between those two lamps. You're right those lamps make decorating really hard.
The space between the couch and the window could now be used for the most important furniture in the world. A cat tree! That's the only thing that's really missing here. Your cats are so beautiful!
