What is going on with food prices?
Back in March ordered dinner for two and it cost 19.75. Same venue today for just a small portion of the order and it’s 20.40…
7 months was all it took to more than double the cost of a meal. Absolutely crazy.
Anyone got a decent spot to order a burger from that’s not going to set me back 20eur?
Also yes, I eat like a child…

Many restaurants put a large premium on every menu item when it’s ordered from Wolt

Even Turkish food prices are going crazy, I remember 2019 the doner meal with sauce, salad, chips and bread was 9 euros, todayfrom the same restaurant I got the meal for 16.50 Euro without sauce, bread or chips

Yeah i entirely gave up on kebabs.
Dont get why everything else went up 20% but kebab 50%.
Not worth it anymore.

Used to have multiple venues on wolt.
Comission is insane (was 27% + 18% Vat on that 27%). Received an email a month before selling everything that it was going to go up to 30%.
Along with that when you advertise on the platform you have to pay a bid for certain orders, which is a minimum of €2.
Add delivery fee + their ridiculous service fee and that's sometimes an extra €4/5 per order.
An order that's €20 ends up with €10 going to Wolt.
Fuck Wolt.

Jesus what? This should be on billboards so consumers can see what this company is doing to the local food scene.
Bring back time to eat

It's the platform that inflates the prices mostly. If you go in person to buy you generally pay 2 to 5 Euros less per item!

u/kingoftheparsnips 1d ago
The price I don’t mind, but the massive rise in price surely isn’t the app hiking its fees that much in 9 months?
1
u/Space4444 1d ago
Okay the platform can increase the fee but i''m sure you the restaurant set up the price in the end.

Pick the food up yourself and it'll be €10 less

True! But then have to sit for 30 mins in traffic each way. The price of convenience, I suppose!

We order from Wolt so much less than before especially since it was sold to US and added bs fees. We went back to eating out at restaurants, often with discounts or deals.

As a small business owner trying to get started on bolt and wolt, their commission is absolutely insane, even when customers opt for pickups 🙃 we try to keep our prices reasonable but this makes it very challenging

u/taurus_dancer 1d ago
But to answer your question, feel free to follow us on insta/fb @sonnymt, we'll have bolt and wolt up and running in a few weeks time. Almost everything on our menu is completely homemade by us (from smoking our own meats, to filling our own sausages, and fermenting our own vegetables) and it is all under €20 🫶🍔

u/kingoftheparsnips 1d ago
You got a way to order/eat without paying their stupid fees so more money in proper home cooked pockets?
3
u/taurus_dancer 1d ago
Once we get started you could always send us a message during our opening hours and order directly with us. Unfortunately it would have to be a pickup though

Didn't your wage also double in the last six months?

u/kingoftheparsnips 1d ago
If anything companies in my field are reducing wages locally for new hires in at the same level 😭

Let me guess, computer related?

u/kingoftheparsnips 1d ago
Actually no! Compliance

u/anon_y_mousey 1d ago
I'm sorry for that, I'm in software and it's happening in my field as well

Play the long game. Some of the early ai adopters are going full circle back to humans as it’s actually cheaper!

u/EnzeroX6666 1d ago
Yeah lots of companies are realizing it already. Using AI makes devs lazy, sadly not all devs use their mind. But where I work they already slashed the AI funding. I think smart companies will notice.

Is your company hiring?

Wolt charges both you and the outlet and they have increased their charges significantly over the years.
The only option I know of if it has to be a delivery is to avoid using the popular ones.
For example using the site from "theoven" directly is much cheaper than ordering from the same outlet via Wolt. Just need to be above the free delivery minimum for your location.

I have to ask OP, by any change are you being charged extra for each item you removed?
2
u/kingoftheparsnips 1d ago
I just checked to be sure, and no, sadly not. Only extra for the bacon. And 1.50 for bacon is mental when you get like 2 pieces. From the butcher you get a lot more. That’s when they remember to add it as well…

apps take a 20-30% cut from the total so places just raise it more to make up the difference which would be more then just a 20-30% raise. war, fuel costs, etc

Im all for complaining about food prices. Your pic however is just showing relatively good prices.
I mean for a burger, fries and soft drink, what is even an acceptable price for you if 11 euros is outrageous?
Edit: ahh I just saw the second picture. Is it actually from the same venue? Why would you censor the name of the vendor?

u/ciappetti 1d ago
Check the second pic of the post. The burger and fries (no drink) costs €20 now

u/kingoftheparsnips 1d ago
No drink, no extra fries and no chicken crispers! I suppose this is one way to lose weight

u/Atoonix 1d ago
The first picture is from when they placed the order 7 months ago. The burger with fries minus the drink cost €20.40 and that is before factoring delivery fee and service charge.
OP, my personal suggestion is to choose a different establishment. Not all of them have hiked up their prices like that. When the Posh Kebab in Mosta decided to start charging nearly €20 for a plate, I started taking my business to Antalya. I know it's not the same type of cuisine, but the logic remains. I'm sure you can find a burger with fries for under €13 if you looked a bit through the Wolt/Bolt app.

u/kingoftheparsnips 1d ago
Yeah first one is the old prices from earlier in the year! Vendor is just above my doodle which has my address in it, didn’t fancy Reddit turning up at my place 😂

I have noticed that when they have 20/25% off - essentially you get the item as the prize you would get it if you went there in person. Also having + most of the time you don’t pay for delivery but end up paying something else called something I can’t remember

Almost like there's some "mysterious" force/organization, which has everything constantly getting rekt by wars and infinite greed.. can't put my fingers on it though.. maybe this can be fixed by voting for the other uniparty canditate :D Or.. maybe.. only humanity needs to make a complete moral 180 and finally start enforcing decency, honor and work for the future of humanity instead of their own personal gains

You’re just learning about inflation now?
The fact you remember what you were charged in March - pure poverty. Stay away.

3 things: 1. Beef prices went up because of Blue Tongue disease amongst cattle in North America, and then screw worm. 2. Russia invasion of Ukraine and USA war with Iran have impacts on food, with relation to grain, fertilizer and diesel (related to transport and machine operations). 3. General corporate greed. Wolt, Uber Eats and Bolt used to take a cut of the restaurant sales, so now restaurants either charge increase the costs or the service charge is on top of the item costs
