Help with unexpected vet bills for foster cats in Malta
Hey everyone,
My wife and I have been fostering cats here in Malta for over three years, and during that time, we’ve cared for more than 350 cats.
We’re both foreigners living and working here in Malta, with regular jobs and ordinary salaries. Most of the expenses have come out of our own pockets, with some help from Second Chance. We’ve continued doing this because we genuinely care about these animals and want to give them a better life.
Unfortunately, today we’ve had a Giardia outbreak, and the veterinary bills for just the first round of treatment are expected to reach around €600–€700. That’s a significant amount for us to manage on our salaries, especially when caring for so many cats.
I’m reaching out to this community to ask if anyone would be willing and able to help us with these unexpected medical expenses. We’re not asking anyone to donate blindly, and we completely understand that not everyone is in a position to help.
We’re happy to provide veterinary receipts, medical bills, and pictures. If anyone would prefer to see the situation for themselves before contributing, you’re also welcome to arrange a visit and see how we care for the cats firsthand.
I’ll include the donation details below for anyone who would like to help. Every contribution, no matter how small, would make a difference in getting these cats the treatment they need.
Even if you can’t donate, sharing this post or offering advice would mean a lot to us.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you to everyone in Malta who cares about animal welfare. ❤️🐈

I am trying to donate and even though I’ve entered my credit card they’re asking for my passport information. I’m uncomfortable giving out that information on this link. Is there another way to donate?

Its worth it as you will be able to collect donations once registered.
Afterwards, I would also recommend that you consider reaching out to wholesalers to buy your food and supplies in bulk. You may need a VAT number to do this and the VAT department can guide you on the process to register the NGO for an exempt VAT number.

We were trying our best not to ask for outside money as me and my wife both work and with no kids, so we always wanted others to receive the benefits as there is others who are taking care of more cats and also with kids and stuff, but medication is very expensive unfortunately 😔

Given that you are doing very needed charitable work, there is nothing wrong with asking for help! Many people would be willing to help you and cheer you on so you can continue saving lives.

Here you might also find some government grants that can be utilized once registered as an NGO. They update the page regularly with new grants.

We already spoke to second chance to get registered, I think it’s important at this point, the numbers are only growing 😔
