Anyone remember a few months ago, when Fujimoto's "Captain America Devil" drawing went viral, and people said that him depicting America as so terrifying and bloody was just cause it's a cool design, and "it's not that deep"?

Anyway, good chapter!

Did it get viral again a few months ago? Because I'm pretty sure that drawing is a few years old, no?

It goes viral every few months or so

There would logically have to be devils based off countries, so the America Devil is probably as strong as Yoru right now.

Remember when the American president sacrificed one year of every single American citizens to power up the Gun Devil?

30

u/CptAustus Jul 29 '25

Not to power up the Gun Devil. To ask him to kill Makima.

2

u/TotemGenitor Jul 29 '25

Oh yeah, right. I got my wire crossed

Remember when NRA members sacrificed their fingers so that the Statue of Liberty could fire a sick ass bullet

It's a pretty accurate design if you're not american have to admit.

Who are coincidentally the people who would fear America the most.

The people that live in America usually end up hating rather than fearing it. (Or fall in love with some kind of fairytale version of it.

I think Eastern and even Central Europe would disagree, and even Western gets on board if anyone suggests America cutting its NATO contributions.

Hey guys, found Yoru's reddit account

u/Zemahem Jul 29 '25

If there's any time for that design to get used in the manga for real, it's probably now.

No no art has no significance behind it! Its just vibes and aura man!

u/Mordetrox Jul 29 '25

I mean, it's a devil. It being terrifying isn't an indication of the actual thing it's based off of, because it's not actually based off of America; It's based off of the fear of America.

Darkness or Fire aren't monstrous because Chainsaw man represented their Devils as eldritch horrors, they're just the absence of light and a chemical reaction respectively. It's the fear of them that created those Devils.

You can argue that the fear of America exists for a reason. But just saying that the America Devil looks scary isn't an argument because it's a devil born from fear, of course it's going to look scary.

7

u/BroadRaven Jul 29 '25

Yeah, but the particular ways that it looks scary you can look into is what makes it stand out. The choice to have the shield covering its eyes, the flagpole being a rifle, the point of the star keeping its mouth stabbed shut etc.

Between the gun devil's prevalence through the story, the actions with the NRA earlier, this chapter etc. Fujimoto is using these connections to America for a reason

It’s scary because of how cool and powerful we are/s

33

u/Teyafas Jul 29 '25

let everyone know you are being sarcastic.

2

u/El_Jeff_ey Jul 29 '25

Fine I didn’t expect it to be such a Reddit reaction

2

u/Teyafas Jul 29 '25

yo look around. we on Reddit! xD

-15

u/Argon1124 Jul 29 '25

No, america is scary because it's weak and cowardly, so it feels the need to swing its dick around to feel powerful. The point of the chapter definitely isn't saying america is cool, in fact it has a pretty strong statement of this shit being not cool.

3

u/County_Difficult Jul 29 '25

it's hilarious how the sarcasm doesn't reach you.

0

u/Argon1124 Jul 29 '25

People unironically say shit like this, why would I assume it's sarcasm.

3

u/Ellefied Jul 29 '25

I mean you can call America corrupt, warmongers, neocolonizers and what not but you can't exactly say that the most powerful country in terms of military, diplomatic, technologic, and economic might within the last half century is weak and cowardly.

-8

u/Argon1124 Jul 29 '25

Bro thinks the ability to beat someone up is strength, like did you learn nothing from Vinland Saga?

3

u/Mintyfresh756 Jul 29 '25

Being able to beat someone is pretty much exactly the definition of being stronger.

0

u/Argon1124 Jul 30 '25

Again, did you learn nothing from vinland saga?

5

u/Ellefied Jul 29 '25

What in the name of schizoposting are you talking about?

-1

u/Argon1124 Jul 29 '25

My statement is clear and concise and if you can't get it then that's on you.

-58

u/Arenavil Jul 29 '25

He can't get everything right. It's why I generally think artist should stay out of politics, they just don't really know much about it beyond surface level memes

23

u/yoyohip Jul 29 '25

That's an insane take. Real "shut up and dribble" energy.

-19

u/Arenavil Jul 29 '25

It's a correct take. If you ever have any interest in learning, let me know

8

u/AbominableVortex74 Jul 29 '25

Why do you think so? Artists often put politics in art in interesting ways. I may not agree with it each time, but I dont think artists should stay out of politics

1

u/Arenavil Aug 04 '25

They do share it in many interesting ways! However, interesting ways are not very accurate, and people would rather get their views from artists than facts. You can have great art without politics, and no art in politics probably means much better politics

1

u/AbominableVortex74 Aug 05 '25

I dont know… for me the most memorable art have been the ones that had some form of politics in it. By the way what do you consider politics, like current stuff? Because most art everywhere has some sort of politics

1

u/Arenavil Sep 07 '25

For me the most memorable stuff is more about people and relationships and the things they go through, not politics

This chapter of Chainsawman where Fujimoto is pretending America is evil is what I mean about politics should stay out of things. It's very stupid and childish, though very authentically Japanese

1

u/AbominableVortex74 Sep 08 '25

Yeah but now you know how Fujimoto and other Japanese people look at America. You don’t have to agree with it, but it’s a good way of knowing their opinions and where they stand. Politics in art is also a great way to know what a society considers acceptable. Advertisements that were considered normal back then might be considered offensive now. Stuff like that is really interesting to me. As long as it doesn’t stick out and makes sense within the context of the story, I dont really mind politics in art

1

u/Arenavil Sep 08 '25

Yeah but now you know how Fujimoto and other Japanese people look at America

No I don't. I know how this one political uninformed person looks at America. The vast majority of Japense people have favorable views of America
