cough man-thing, werewolf by midnight.

105

u/NightstarZero Sep 01 '26

I mean they could pull all these guys back in with Ghost Rider

70

u/DrummerDKS Hawkeye (Ultron) Sep 01 '26

Yep. Black Knight, Moon Knight, Blade, Man-Thing, WWBM, all dabble in supernatural. Could so easily do a Midnight Suns series after GR.

30

u/LilPonyBoy69 Sep 01 '26

Throw in Dr. Strange as a leader and you've got quite the team.

19

u/uncleben85 Sep 01 '26

Elsa Bloodstone as a reluctant leader would be my pick

Personally, I don't think MCU Dr. Strange would make for a good leader, and I really don't see most of those characters, especially Moon Knight, following him.

Wong has led the Midnight Sons on occasion...and that could work in the MCU.

Imagine a super natural Marvel team up movie but also throw Punisher in the mix just for fun.

2

u/Bananarine Sep 01 '26

Can they bring in Sam and Dean?

2

u/Digresser Sep 01 '26

A different superhero franchise got them.

14

u/phred_666 Sonny Birch Sep 01 '26

Doesn’t mean they will.

Blade shouldn’t have to share a project with Ghost Rider

By night

35

u/LavishnessMission584 Sep 01 '26

Eh. Pretty much all the post endgame plans got scrapped in favor of the upcoming x-men movies. All the shows have halted productions, a bunch of new characters got one single project and will never be mentioned again. Multiverse saga was a dud.

13

u/AmIWhatTheRockCooked Sep 01 '26

They might have been able to pull it around if not for majors. They were on the skids for sure, but that just wrecked any chance

2

u/jtron3 Sep 01 '26

That storyline was wrecked after Kang lost to antman

3

u/Haltopen Ant-Man Sep 01 '26

Isn't that kind of the point of Kang though? Individual kangs are very serious threats, but the real threat is that defeating/killing one kang just invites another of the infinite kangs across the multiverse to pop in, pick up the pieces and take his place. Kang's real power is that he, as a whole collective of infinite versions of himself, is an unstoppable unending force.

3

u/Neveronlyadream Spider-Man Sep 01 '26

I kind of always thought that was a last minute addition to the shooting script after they'd already realized Kang wasn't going to work. They hype him up as the ultimate danger, Janet is terrified of him, and then he's taken out immediately.

After watching it, it really felt like halfway through that movie they realized Kang was a shitty replacement for Thanos and pivoted. Majors getting into trouble was just a good excuse to scrap the idea and start over.

5

u/Senshado Sep 01 '26

No: what happened in Quantumania is they defeated a mini sampler Kang, who had under 1% the power of the real group.

Fighting that lesser Kang as a preview was meant to hype up how dangerous the full Kang would be.

To be fair once fan4 and amen rights were back on the menu, they scrapped all plans and went with rebooting/consolidating the timelines and universes into a single.cohesive one.

They were skirting around major stories, plot lines and villains originally but once they got all their ip back, they just went for the reset button (as they should have) and a lot of the fringe/borderline stuff they were setting up simply got ditched and left behind

2

u/davwad2 SHIELD Sep 01 '26

They took what, 17 years, to bring back Leader? Give them time.

u/ColdSnapSP Aug 31 '26

At this point the entire movie should just be treated as not canon.

106

u/AchillesShort Captain America (Captain America 2) Sep 01 '26

Ehhhh I don't know if we need to go that far.

The only thing they should make non-canon is Secret Invasion IMO.

They can still pick up on the Eternals and Black Knight/Blade with some of the other projects they've announced or rumored to be working o.

11

u/Creative-Improvement Sep 01 '26

Maybe they can make a “unreliable narrator” framing where the core of the story is correct, and it allows for course correction. Elder Scrolls does it all the time.

14

u/ScarsUnseen Sep 01 '26

I'm sure Korg's free after Love and Thunder.

5

u/Procyon-Sceletus Sep 01 '26

"It was different after dr doom rewrote reality and then another person/richards rewrote it a 2nd time so the fantastic four and x-men were on 616" will be the "a wizard did it" for the next 20 years of any continuity issues for older mcu movies and shows

2

u/Creative-Improvement Sep 01 '26

This really, it creates “nothing matters” environment with no grounding. Movie not good? Oh alternate timeline. Bombed serie? “the wizard can undo it.”

Powerscaling can have the same problem.

You need really good charismatic base characters. RDJ did that for Ironman. Almost everything in Phase 4/5 has been lackluster. Except the odd good movie.

2

u/stillaras Sep 01 '26

Because i dont remeber much, I get not liking it but is there anything that makes it feel its messing with everything else cannon?

2

u/Alfredo_Commachio Sep 01 '26

I think you can salvage stuff from the Eternals. They are a cool set of characters I liked in the comics ages ago when I read comics, and was surprised the MCU had chosen a feature film for them. They are a bit of an "out there" part of the Marvel universe and I was disappointed when the film landed that it kind of ruined these characters for many fans who likely hadn't heard of the Eternals prior to the film

I think you can work them in as side players in other films, they don't necessarily have to pretend the movie never happened since the only real cliffhanger it was left with was whether the Eternals would be punished by their Celestial boss, and they don't have to really delve into it--if you see the characters again you can assume they weren't meaningfully punished.

3

u/ColdSnapSP Sep 01 '26

Eternals was better off as a Disney+ Series so the ensemble could be fleshed out more

2

u/Jeff_Sabado Sep 02 '26

Not a comic book guy but I enjoyed the film

22

u/justafanboy1010 Spider-Man Sep 01 '26

noncanon? You sure you're ready for that, Mr. Whitman?

11

u/BelieveInTheShield Sep 01 '26

Where did the giant petrified Celestial in the ocean come from?

7

u/ShadowOfMyPastSelf Sep 01 '26 edited Sep 01 '26

Not only that, but they made it a major plot point for not only BND, but also for Logan's background by having Celestial Island be the source for 616's Adamantium. Which means that the MCU's Logan could have only gotten his metal skeleton after the Fall of 2024.

Edit: By BND I meant BNW. My morning coffee clearly wasn't as strong as it was supposed to be.

12

u/GreenGoblinNX Sep 01 '26

One of the bigger issues in the MCU is that the end credit scenes stopped being for something we would see in the next couple of movies, and started being for something they had vague plans to maybe think about doing at some points in the nebulous future.

4

u/Lordlordy5490 Sep 01 '26

They were setting up an entire supernatural team and then kind of gave up on it. Maybe Ghost Rider will bring those plans back but that would mean we're in for a wait.

most of the GoT leads' careers seemed to be wasted opportunities. crazy how the actor of a character who lasted for just one season has had a bigger career than most of them and will be a huge part of doomsday

141

u/EdieBooberryBeale Aug 31 '26

One of the random, unnamed guards who had one scene in season seven is now part of the Fantastic Four.

72

u/OneSingleL Sep 01 '26

Was also Eddie in Stranger Things who basically stole the show in Season 4

13

u/TheDarkDragon13 Sep 01 '26

He definitely got the role because of Stranger Things, not because of GOT.

38

u/justafanboy1010 Spider-Man Sep 01 '26

You know ball. Joseph Quinn is his name.

13

u/Ifuckinghateaura Sep 01 '26

damn these actors be hustling

8

u/PartyPoison98 Sep 01 '26

Ha never even noticed that!

Funnily enough the other guard there was in a short lived British sitcom called Wasted where he played a guy that loved Game of Thrones, and had Sean Bean playing his spirit guide as a sort of pseudo Ned Stark/Boromir. Always wondered if that had any connection to him ending up in the show.

3

u/GrandSquanchRum Sep 01 '26

To be fair to the others he bagged a role that Marvel will force to be successful no matter what as F4 is one of their biggest franchises. No one gives a shit about Black Knight even if Kit Harington is an excellent pull for the role. No one gives a shit about G'iah except that it's Emilia Clark playing her. They were both set up to be a big part of the MCU but at the same time attached to characters that can be scrapped and put into movies/series that were massive flops. They just got unlucky.

2

u/Heikks Sep 01 '26

Also Jessica Henwick was only there for 8 episodes and has had a better career than all the leads.

205

u/unitedhardy Aug 31 '26

emilia clarke has seriously been so unlucky. she’s been in terminator, star wars and the MCU, and each project she was in for each franchises either bombed financially, was received terribly, or both

6

Jason Momoa had a pretty sizeable acting career well before GOT... I watched him for years on Stargate Atlantis and he was on Baywatch too

2

The hell? How did I not realise he was in SGA... 🤦🏻‍♂️

3

u/AmIWhatTheRockCooked Sep 01 '26

His career has been so meteoric its wild how that detail gets forgotten lol

18

u/incredibleamadeuscho Killmonger Aug 31 '26

well not crazy. Game of Thrones was just their start, and actors usually try to leave projects earlier while they are at their height of fame. I think Natalie Dormer was happy to leave in season six for that reason. Filming is a huge commitment.

21

u/RedSnapper24 Aug 31 '26

Kit is amazing in the last couple of seasons of Industry. I think he shows up in season 3. I highly recommend this show to everyone. It seems to be very overlooked.

Also, check out Jacob Anderson in Interview with the Vampire/The Vampire Lestat. He is amazing as Louis. It’s the best show hardly anyone is watching.

3

u/Normal_Sweet_2974 Aug 31 '26

18

u/Mollionaire Aug 31 '26

don’t forget the human torch was in a small scene in game of thrones 😂

6

u/tschawartz12 Sep 01 '26

The one I am most sad of is Jack Gleeson. To be able to portray a character that is so loved to be hated because of how the character is portrayed and written is the mark of an Epic actor. I read that he got into doing behind the scenes work (management and the like) of theater and really loves it apparently.  I mean amazing for him but in a way sad for us and he's an amazing talent in front of the camera.

Richard Madden - Eternals | Ikaros - Dud
Kit Harrington - Eternals | Black Knight - Dud
Pedro Pascal - F4:First Steps | Mr. Fantastic - Okay
Emilia Clarke - Secret Invasion | Gi’ah - Uhff, duddedy dud
Peter Dinklage - Infinity War | Eitri - Great

18

u/muhash14 Foggy Nelson Sep 01 '26

Dinklage doesn't really count, he was huge before GoT, and he's still huge now.

Sophie Turner has been in the X-Men which technically counts, though she really didn't rise to the occasion on that one I think.

Finn Jones (Loras Tyrell) I believe is still Danny Rand, and will appear in Daredevil Born Again S3 alongside the rest of the Defenders. Hopefully they get Jessica Henwick (Nymeria Sand) from that back as well, especially considering her profile has risen significantly since then.

And Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, also had a one season role in Game of Thrones, and has had a successful multi film run in the MCU since.

3

u/GreenGoblinNX Sep 01 '26

Nah, Dinklage was only huge is Infinity War. He's smaller than average in just about everything else.

ba-dum-tish

2

u/uncleben85 Sep 01 '26

Ralph Ineson, Joseph Quinn, Mark Gatiss all showed up in F4, as well.
Iwan Rheon in Inhumans.
Natalie Dormer in Captain America.
Clive Russell in The Dark World.

There's probably a couple of others too, as you get into smaller roles.

If we're counting the Fox X-Men universe because it now joins the Multiverse, Maisie Williams was in New Mutants and Peter Dinklage double dips into Days of Future Past

2

u/Haltopen Ant-Man Sep 01 '26

If you wanna acknowledge a smaller but significant in its own way role, Dormer also played what will probably go down as the definitive best iteration of Moriarty (Sherlock Holmes most famous nemesis) in tv history across several seasons of Elementary on CBS.

9

u/codereign Sep 01 '26

Not Sophie Turner, she had every opportunity to not suck. It's unbelievable to me that she did such a good job of playing Sansa Stark just to turn out to be a horrible actor when it comes to any other role 🫤.

4

u/PhoenixHunters Sep 01 '26

She just played herself as Sansa IMO

2

u/CaptHayfever Hawkeye (Avengers) Sep 02 '26

Everything I've seen her in outside of GoT has her faking an American accent; maybe she just can't emote her dialogue correctly through that?

3

u/Ifuckinghateaura Sep 01 '26

well its a role but worth mentioning a role he only got because the original actor left

3

u/Haltopen Ant-Man Sep 01 '26

Also its a one season secondary antagonist role he only got because he did the voice of the character in an audio book recording. I'm expecting his performance to go about as well as that time he was cast as the main villain of a call of duty game (poorly).

Kit:

“I mean, I'd love to. I don't think there's any plan to. I hate to break it to you. I think he's a wicked character. There's a part of him with that whole Ebony Blade stuff, where the more he kills, the worse he gets, the more addicted. 19

3

u/gabegdog Sep 01 '26

The Gatherers arc would literally slot almost perfectly years ago with the cast the MCU had at the time, as well as the eternals coming in.

661

u/Inevitable_Box3643 Aug 31 '26

And he’d be correct, probably.

The way the Phase 4 and 5 casts have been treated is historically bad.

Typically you’d have the creatives working to improve characters or concepts that did not work, like when Thor 2 was not well received, but this bunch of characters were introduced and abandoned with less than 1% of the grace similar characters got earlier.

And now the Avengers movie, which should in theory have been these characters’ moment to shine is now again the Chris/Chris/RDJ show.

117

u/eagc7 Aug 31 '26 edited Aug 31 '26

I think the difference is that while we did had some MCU films with so-so reception in the past they weren't to the level of today MCU films and shows and those so-so films were still profitiable enough to continue compared to today and since some of the newer projects didn't perform as well, that thus makes it less of a priority for Marvel to bring back the newer characters compared to back then.

But i hope that they still make use of those characters and try to redeem them. like okay Eternals didn't work, don't let them go to waste, just write them better and use them in say an Avengers film or Thor film, a film where they will be introduced to an audience that never saw their film

Call me crazy, but they could’ve really cooked with a Kang arc. They dropped the ball by clinging to “no heroes die” too much. Michael Douglas literally told them to kill him off. Kang should’ve won. No one cares if Kang’s whole thing is “there’s a bunch of him”. That’s not a strong villain. You need a singular big bad, that’s what made He Who Remains so compelling. He was the one who won, and he emphasized that it came at great costs. His scene at the end of Loki S1 is some of the most intimidating dialogue I’ve seen in the MCU.

Quantumania’s Kang was supposed to be so menacing and dangerous that even the Council of Kang’s outcasted him. And he gets beat by ANT MAN? Give me a break!

They had some interesting stuff going but they needed to just listen to fans… Let Kang win and kill Hank Pym, give Sam the serum, stop trying to push the Girl Marvels whatever slop. Ms Marvel’s show was good standalone. She didn’t need a damn group. I get it, the incels review bombing Ms Marvel needed to be put in their place, but the reaction was too strong. The Marvels was… NOT good…

But I feel like the warning signs were there early on. I remember there was already a portion of the fanbase that started to say "wait, what are we doing here?" As early as Eternals.

And it only got worse when they started to plug in America Chavez never to be seen again. Then introduced Clea. Then Hercules. All of which are just MIA.

u/AchtungCloud Aug 31 '26

I mean, it seems they knew exactly what to do. You just don’t like it.

Make a Spider-Man movie, use it to soft launch X-Men, and bring back the beloved core Avengers actors. Now Spider-Man 4 was massive, Doomsday is tracking to be massive, and X-Men is likely to be massive, too.

23

u/Tragedy_Boner Sep 01 '26

I was talking about Eternals, L&T, and Quantumania. I like BND. Doomsday is happening because plans changed

2

u/AchtungCloud Sep 01 '26

Yes, I know. Those failed, which was them being “knocked off their high horse.” But they didn’t have “no idea what to do” afterwards.

They did, which was make changes like Doomsday to get back to success.

10

u/Tragedy_Boner Sep 01 '26

So are they going to use the Eternals or Black knight in the future? Or Hulk’s son? Or all of Secret invasion?

They fixed it by abandoning the storylines. If they had an idea on what to do they would have done it.

3

u/Adorable_Ad_3478 Sep 01 '26

Abandoning unpopular stories is a staple of the medium. Why are people surprised?

Right now in the comics, Gwen Stacy is "alive" yet Spider-Man writers want to ignore her since they don't know what to do with her.

9

u/Tragedy_Boner Sep 01 '26

Comic storylines are all over the place and have been forever. Hurts a bit more in live action because there are actors involved.

Agatha was made for pennies (it wasn’t even given enough money for magic VFX or even sets) and outperformed most of their portfolio yet it wasn’t capitalised on.

Shang-Chi was well liked and profitable but never got a follow-up. They refused to market the Marvels setting it up for failure. Same for Wonder Man.

Characters like Yelena are proof that if invested in, the Phase 4 and 5 characters can do well even if they come from “unsuccessful” properties. Properties like Daredevil and Punisher underperform yet they keep pumping money into it.

It seems like MCU is entering a Perlmutter 2.0 era at this point seeing the projects being approved and the ones being denied.

4

u/SexyShave Sep 01 '26

It seems like MCU is entering a Perlmutter 2.0 era at this point seeing the projects being approved and the ones being denied.

Basically. No Blade or Armor Wars, but Ghost Rider is so important they're giving it the fast track.

2

u/CaptHayfever Hawkeye (Avengers) Sep 02 '26

Feels like I need to explain this a lot:

  • Blade fell apart because of creative differences that won't apply to Ghost Rider, due to Gosling & Levy working out their plan together before pitching the movie.
  • Armor Wars fell apart because Secret Invasion completely blew up Rhodey's character arc.

3

u/eagc7 Sep 01 '26 edited Sep 01 '26

I mean they really couldn't do much marketing for The Marvels due to the strikes.

With Wonder Man.........that can be applied to other Disney+ shows, Marvel and Disney have not really giving their shows a huge marketing campaing as of late.

But yeah Yelena is proof of something i've been saying, some here go "People and fans don't care about these low tiers characters, they want the Spider-Man, the Wolverine, the Hulk, the Daredevil, the Iron Man, etc" and i am like.....Eternals, She-Hulk, Ironheart and so on all of these characters can became popular as say the Guardians if you invest on them and you just get better writters to tackle them.

tbf thats also because theres like 50x more characters than when Thor 2 released. You cant go back and fix all the ones that took a misstep. Itd take so many years

16

u/DearDearNotLuis Aug 31 '26

Thunderbolts exist

9

u/Inevitable_Box3643 Aug 31 '26

Seem to be the exception and not the rule. Ironically enough not even all of them. Taskmaster was used as a gag.

7

u/LADYBIRD_HILL Kilgrave Aug 31 '26

I wouldn't call it a gag, it was an unfortunate result of announcing the cast before rewriting the script to make Bucky a big part and having to cut the fat elsewhere. Taskmaster wasn't received very well by audiences so it made sense to take her out right away as a way to show that characters can die on this team and are seen as expendable. It wasn't treated as funny at all like gags normally are.

5

u/JoelStrega Sep 01 '26

They introduced too much new character when new core post Endgame has not fully developed as a character and solidified as a team. Leaving them with the beloved old guard, a few half developed char, and then a dozens of new chars. Should've developed the new core first while introducing only a few new chars.

Agreed on the improvements. If they had the same mindset they’d pursue the Kang Recast to do Kang Dynasty as planned, pursue Eternals 2 with improvements, involve the Ant Fam better after Quantumania. Bring back Scarlet Witch heroically, involve Carol and make her more present to interact with more avengers..etc.

Instead, they panic and smashed the red button hard. I can see why they’d resort to that because hey, business. But let’s pause and understand how it all became such a financial risk in the first place?

Because they got too confident with believing that anything they slap the red logo on would automatically work. They grew complacent. So when shit hits the fan suddenly they’re withdrawing into themselves.

4

u/Special_Order-937 Sep 01 '26

Thor 2 has positive audience and critics scores on Rotten Tomatoes and made a bunch of money that Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four would have killed for. It was well received enough.

9

u/theglowinggreenorb Sep 01 '26

I think times are different now. Movies like Thor 2 or Ant Man 2 would probably have worse reviews in the modern era than when people were more willing to just go "yeah that was aight" before the MCU had to sustain the weight of 20+ movies and shows

I love Feige and Marvel Studios, but I can’t believe how they fumbled Kit Harrington and Emilia Clarke.

94

u/DrVentureIsACrumbBum Sep 01 '26

I would never live down fumbling Emilia Clarke

87

u/IncidentOk853 Sep 01 '26

Emilia Clarke has been in so many terrible flops since game of thrones

And none of them were her fault, she is usually amazing

I think solo is a good example, she was definitely the bright spot in that movie, but it was always going to be a one off that didn’t lead her to anything else in star wars, even before it flopped

8

u/Hacksaw_Doublez Sep 01 '26

Q’ira was such an interesting character and the ending with Maul set up so many interesting things.

I’d have killed for a Q’ira and Crimson Dawn show post-Solo or beyond.

3

u/Francis_J_Eva Sep 01 '26

The character shows up in the game Star Wars Outlaws, but only for a cameo and voiced by a different actress.

It’s a shame. I love Black Knight and I think he’d be a fun character to add to the Avengers dynamic

Yeah, it would be silly to waste him entirely like this at least. He's one of their coolest B-listers.

Sucks that they introduced him in the Eternals movie. I don't think anyone who was in that is coming back.

70

u/TheJoshider10 Spider-Man Aug 31 '26

The annoying thing is it works so well as a standalone movie if they ended it with Gemma Chan and Kit Harrington embracing, plus removed the two credit scenes. But the pointless cliffhanger and sequel teases make it stick out like a sore thumb as something that needs addressing at some point.

6

u/Special_Order-937 Sep 01 '26

I was so embarrassed when I mistook Arishem the Judge for Eason the Searcher. Boy I sure hope I was fired for that blunder!

Mind you, the Eternals did end up making it that it that Thanos was right and he also saved the Earth which is either an interesting twist or a massive misfire, your mileage may vary.

4

u/electrorazor Sep 01 '26

He accidentally delayed the inevitable

15

u/Special_Order-937 Sep 01 '26

Alternate version Ikaris came back in a non-speaking part to fight zombie Captain Marvel in Marvel Zombies for what that’s worth!

8

u/open_formation Sep 01 '26 edited Sep 01 '26

To be honest, I think Eternals was heavily damaged as a film by the sheer amount of ends it has, it feels like it's wrapping up return of the king when we haven't actually spend multiple films with these characters getting to know them, and then suddenly jolts the status quo with new events, while also managing to put none of those main characters in the story; every eternal either goes to space of their own accord, or ends up kidnapped by Arishem and taken to space anyway, and then Dane goes off on his own magic adventure.

It's way too busy, and though it's interesting to have a massive head appear in a park, I don't think you can do that and have people going to space and meeting Harry Styles, and have a secret magic sword as well, it's just too much.

That scene, plus the ones about them settling down etc. should really have been the post credit scenes, with the film actually going to credits on the island, after Ikaris goes into the sun, and Sprite gains the ability to age, as they were the main antagonists, it turns out, for the film, and with the uncovering of who the villain actually was being part of the mystery element of the plot, they could have spent a bit more time underling that point, so that people aren't just like "so what was that even about??".

Ikaris doesn't want his whole life's service to be for nothing, Sprite loves Ikaris in an unrequited way, and almost everyone else has got too attached to humanity to want to let them get eaten by a new celestial. On a personal level, it's actually about a love triangle, and on a thematic level, it's about them realising that they're actually not as different from humans as they think, the point should be to emphasise that humanity's story is their story too etc.

And what's the natural credits graphics to result from that? Probably about what they did this for, humanity, with lots of stuff about cool things from history with an Eternals twist, which is exactly what the end sequence was anyway, except it's a little too slow. The point should be the rush of realisation that they're no longer apart from humanity.

Then you do a really long end credits scene, which is the actual end of the movie as filmed currently, including up to getting pulled into space. Maybe split it into two scenes? Either way, the film should end clearly stating what it is about, why it matters to these characters and so on.

Otherwise, you just get vague setup after vague setup for like twenty minutes, at which point you've forgotten what film it was you even watched, and why anything happened in it.

(Also the subplot about the guy who kept absorbing their powers and changing to be more like them should have got a better resolution to his story too, like he absorbs enough that he finds himself unable to kill Thena in his final fight in a cave, without some kind of meaningful resolution or twist, there is literally nothing important or interesting about that character at all in the end, so that subplot ends up feeling pointless too.)

At each stage, if they'd focused more on payoff and on establishing the themes of the story, rather than just undermining them at the last minute or letting things drag on, we would I suspect see much fewer people saying that they can't really remember what happened in the film, and the cool bits would have more of a chance of lasting with a clearer set of narrative through-lines to anchor them.

Some people still wouldn't have wanted to have watched a long film about sad robot gods and the ways they are driven by their emotions, but for those who are in the audience who like that sort of thing, they could have focused more on delivering for that audience and not blurring it later.

Man… I just started a Black Knight comic run last night and am having so much fun. He’s a great character, my sad little boy…

I wish we had the Black Knight/Blade movie man. What a huge loss

Lucky for Doom, because the Black Knight always triumphs. He’s invincible.

Would be shocked if any character from Eternals is ever seen again. Feels like they’re just acting like that one never happened (besides what was in Brave New World)

Stuff like this is why you need a coherent vision. They threw so much stuff at the wall during that phase and barely any of it as stuck

10

u/Scoteee Aug 31 '26

Well they were kind of put in a position where they can return when its convenient for the story. Arishem took most of the survivors away for an indefinite amount of time. It is kind of that way in the comics as well, eternals have a big thing happen then they dont get mentioned again for years. Ive fallen off comics a bit lately but last eternal thing i know of was the xmen crossover years ago.

7

u/AchillesShort Captain America (Captain America 2) Sep 01 '26

I think there's still room to bring them back. If the xmen are the main focus of the new phase, and assuming they make Apocalypse the new big bad, the Celestials are tied to his origin.

If we see the Celestials there's always an opportunity to bring the Eternals back. Marvel is missing a bit of a cosmic side to the line-up now that the Guardians are on the backburner, so maybe that's how they bring that back.

And with a certain demon showing up in Iron Heart and Ghost Rider being announced, not to mention the existence of Werewolf by Night, I think there's still room for Black Knight and Blade to show up.

You're definitely right about needing a coherent vision, but as far as I see it, the board is cleared for those characters to make a return in some way or another.

11

u/lorcana66 Aug 31 '26

Eternals was such a shame cuz there were a lot of interesting cool things but the movie itself was just not great

22

u/GroundbreakingTax259 Sep 01 '26

So I guess we know what happened immediately after that post-credits scene:

Voice of Blade: "You sure about that?"

Dane: "On second thought, no." Puts the sword away, then sends it to a museum for safe-keeping, where it stays on display for many years as Dane lives a happy and ordinary life.

9

u/Uncanny_Doom Daredevil Aug 31 '26

Considering they put this character in the movie by looking at a list of characters that hadn't been introduced in the MCU yet and said, "What if he replaced this guy?" yeah...that's a safe bet.

5

u/CharmyFrog Sep 01 '26

Well Batman is DC so duh.

10

u/SpikeRosered Sep 01 '26

I really feel like we witnessed human entertainment ambitions basically capping out. At a certain point everything becomes just too big, expansive, and expensive to really work anymore. MCU really experimented with how fucking big you could make a cinematic universe and seemed to learn there is some kind of limit that the real world will endure.

2

u/Fancy-Trousers Sep 01 '26

I don't think it's a matter of expansiveness of the universe itself, it's the self-imposed timeline the MCU is on to capitalize as quickly as possible and their obsession with bloated team-ups. But it seems they're learning their lesson on both. Based on Spider-man BND and Doomsday hype, the MCU is only going to tank horribly in popularity if Disney floods the market. Hence their schedule slowing down. And things can be good with one or two cameos splashed in. No need to overwhelm audiences by throwing in half a dozen people that either require homework or eat up 20 minutes of the runtime recapping who they are. We don't need a yearly Avengers-sized team-up. And as BND showed, big players like Hulk don't need a recap and smaller players like Punisher can support the movie through their characterization, not their Wikipedia page.

One of the best superhero end fights ever portrayed on film. Best speedster depiction as well.

Yeah, those are characters people actually like. Isn’t it funny how that works?

Midnight Sons is the new West Coast Avengers and Young Avengers/Champions.

Everyone is convinced it will happen but Marvel Studios has given 0 indication that it will.
