Discussion New found respect for this band
So I’m kinda new to mayday parade as a fan. I listened to their first album years ago, simply based on recommendations from friends that have similar music taste to me, (And obviously I had heard Jamie all over a million times and it’s a banger) but I never really dove deeper than that. I just listened to the album once or twice and thought it was pretty good, but Never really thought much of it outside of that. But then this new album trilogy that they released really caught my attention and gave me a new found respect for this band. God damn, these albums are so mature and smart in a way I didn’t expect from a pop-punk band that’s been around this long. These albums feel really self aware, while also being able to deliver genuinely good emotion through these lyrics and catchy pop-rock melodies. Not to mention that the concept is very well delivered. Sweet delivers the bangers and high energy that shows that these guys can still write the same way they were able to when they were kids. And Sad feels like the introspective, melancholy reality that being an adult can be. And Sugar acts as this kind of epic feeling finale that ties everything together. (At least this is what I got from it. I didn’t read up much about them before listening). But overall I’m just shocked I didn’t follow this band earlier. I’m truly very happy I found out about this music and I hope these guys get more recognition because they absolutely deserve it.

Interesting. I think some of the new stuff is a regression of their mature sound, and the rest is equal to what's come before.

This! Sunnyland is the most mature they’ve sounded, everything after has been relatively “mid” in my opinion

I saw them open for atl back in 2023, and just recently at aftershock. Consistently one of the best performances

The new releases are some of my favorite! So grateful for all the music over the years! 2012 was my first time seeing them at Warped and by 2013 and the release of Monsters in the Closet, I knew they were my favorite band<3 can't wait for the 20th anniversary for ALIR next year!

Idgaf what anyone says. SweetSadSugar from the Sugar album, may be the best song. Yea it’s chuggy. But it does what it needs to do, and is a much needed addition to MP’s discography.

Dig deep into Black Lines…it’s their most shat upon album and it’s pretty brilliant, imo. Especially Transmogrification.

I agree. I think the trilogy really captured that wave of fans that may have missed out on Mayday before. I actually never really listened to them until the trilogy.
