This city completely half-asses everything, but failing to properly vet people who are directly working with kids is an entirely new level of dangerous negligence. Medford leadership seriously needs to do better.

Tufts PILOT Program

Tufts University needs to start making a more meaningful contribution to the city of Medford. The university’s main campus in Medford reportedly makes a $450,000 payment each year to the city. THEY MAKE THE SAME $450,000 PAYMENT TO THE CITY OF BOSTON! Tufts reports $3.7 Billion in assets and $164 million in operating surplus over the last 5 years. Enrollment has increased 17% over that time and with the new project being built on Boston Ave, it’s only going to keep climbing. It’s time for them to do the right thing with the strain this adds to the city. Maybe more contributions to help fix the road on Boston Ave that has become a disaster (possibly as a result of increased construction)? Maybe more for local teachers or for the police and fire departments that will meet more demand with increased enrollment? Just some food for thought.

Recommendation to fix natural gas boiler?

Natural gas boiler in the house is not working; was looking into Sedona Plumbing or Waterworks Mechanical, but wanted to ask if anyone had recommendation for companies or licensed individuals that you know of to help with this issue? Thank you!

Tenant rights for appliances?

Our washing machine recently broke, so our landlord got a new one. His plumber stacked the old dryer on top. The issue is they didn’t use a stacking kit (or really anything) to keep the dryer from shifting during loads, and just told us to do our blankets at a laundromat to avoid vibrations.

Pretty much every source ever says to use a stacking kit. It’s like 35$. We reached out to the landlord and are waiting to hear what he says. But if he refuses to do anything, is there anything we can do? Would we be entitled to deduct the kit and installation fee from rent? Is there a code we can point to?

There is no language in the lease either way about who is responsible for the appliance, but the unit was advertised as having in unit washer dryer and it was working when we moved in.

The dryer is so old it doesn’t have a manual, so I don’t have any formal documents to point to to say “this was installed against the manufacturer’s guidelines.”

EDIT: Yea our landlord said he doesn’t feel he needs to do anything. Ugh.

EDIT: ran our first load and the thing for sure jiggled and walked. I sent a video and asked again to get it resolved. let’s see what happens.

It’s sad that the city wasn’t willing to pay a graphic designer a nominal fee to create a poster that would look so much better…

After renting in Arlington, our family is interested in buying. Parents with kids: what can you tell me about Medford? Is the school system adequate for your needs? How is the young family community?

hullo hullo folks, next to the great american beer hall and sharing a lot with the theory dispensary you’ll find Arts Collaborative Medford- your future favorite place to see and make art.

Make and Mingle is a free weekly hang out where you can come and work on any projects that you have. 7PM-9PM you‘ll make art, have laughs, debate terrible reality tv, pretty much whatever is up my guy. Working on a cool knitting piece that fell to the wayside? A block of wood you swear you can see an eye in it? We got enough of Jerry, Ben thinks his kick flips are sick enough to bring a crowd and wants to show off. I’ll always be working on something or starting something to distract from the main thing I’m supposed to be working on.

Come for the people stay for the art, we always have a show going and it’s free to view. I am but one of the many studio artists that call this place home so welcome yourself in, I maybe got chips, definitely oranges. I always have oranges but that’s a story for another time.

Hope to see yall there, sign ups aren’t required but it helps me figure out how many chairs to put out!

Private Student Dorm - what to know?

I am trying to understand the pros and cons to the potential new dorm on Boston and North.

Edit: Dorm was the wrong phrase. Private student housing is more accurate. I knew it wasn't owned by Tufts.

Thus far, I'm aware that there was a vote, which failed, and a second late night sketchy vote, which passed, but will result in a veto.

I support the veto solely due to the sketchy second vote. However, idk where to land on the development.

Where are y'all at?

Edit to add: I have no issues with students in my community. I have concerns with a private student accommodation of that size.

Final edit: someone brought up that the developer never shoveled last winter. On that alone, they can pound sand.

Barber or stylist recommendations

Looking to get a short notice haircut before a wedding. Any recommendations in the area that would have availability by the end of the week? My usual barber is booked up.

Male with wavy hair.

Stay dry out there, and thanks!
