What are these?

Post image

I've seen a few of these things wired into street lamps in Crescent Heights. Any clue what they are?

It's a traffic counter.

Yep, pretty sure the City uses Miovision.

That looks like the traffic counting equipment the city uses to survey traffic patterns and counts.ย

Here's an article from 2020, but the picture looks like that equipment. https://medicinehatnews.com/news/local-news/2020/08/12/city-counting-traffic-of-all-kinds-at-base-of-scholten-hill/

Yeah itโ€™s miovision. I remember working at the city and having to manually count cars and pedestrians crossing streets from those videos.

You're looking at an older Chev and an older Honda. As a licensed tech I will tell you the Civic is easily the smarter buy here

I for one appreciate your honesty about the situation. I think an older Honda is the safe choice in this matter. I think the OP might have had a bit of difficulty with the similarity of the colour of the vehicles in question.

Where ever these goes traffic changes are comeing either pedestrian crossing upgrades no parking zones or even a stop light in the next few months.

Oh, that's good to hear. I saw one a few months ago in a spot that should really have a light

It doesn't necessarily mean changes that quickly. They count vehicle and pedestrian movements at intersections for years sometimes before the numbers of vehicles passing through, turning right or left, or pedestrians crossing warrant putting a traffic control device in. And, it takes time to redesign the intersection if it needs any changes before they are going to put in a traffic light. Source: I used to work in the engineering department in a small city and did this very job.

Could also be the airshed study ongoing. Measuring air quality across the city.
