Light and Fluffy News To the guy who helped us move a washing machine down the street. Thank you so much. You have no idea what that meant to us.
We're broke, struggling graduates who haven't been able to find jobs a year after graduating. Our washing machine broke and we desperately needed one, but in our stupidity didn't realise it would be 70 goddamn kilos. Thank you for finding us, going all the way back home to get your trolley, and then walking us back to our place with the machine. You are an absolute legend. I love this city and its people.

I still remember the guy who helped us load my washing machine into my boot when I was moving apartment like 10 years ago! I’m sure he’s never thought about it since but we still have that machine and I remember that moment often, no idea what we would’ve done - I could not believe how heavy it was! Only thing we couldn’t carry inc bed, dryer, tables etc.

I've been in your position before homie. You just need any office job. The rest will sort itself out.

It’s quite the flex ;-)
(Not to take anything away from his generosity of time)

Brutal, what did you graduate in?

Design! It's pretty niche in comparison to some other careers and AI certainly isn't helping.

Do you mind me asking what sort of Design? Comms or Spatial or something else?

If it makes you feel better, other industries aren't doing very well either. I just work in a restaurant now (wanting out, been looking, no bites, I feel like I'm fucking stuck) but the amount of resumes I see from people with smart degrees?? It has me shocked and I literally question "people with your degree are struggling too?" they just nod and go "yep the job market..."

Be like that, hey Let's agree to make our world the kinder world we'd prefer to live in!

Hope you guys manage to find grad roles, keep tweaking your resumes and upskilling if you can.

I had something similar happen with a mate I was helping load a fridge onto their ute. Some stranger was passsing by and offered to help us lift it in and get it strapped safely for transport (which I quickly realised we would have definitely bungled). Life's so much sweeter when we help each other out instead of looking the other way!

Good on him. I once said no to the delivery guy when said he’ll move the washing machine into the slot. Me and my parter almost busted our backs trying to move it couple of meters without any tools. Those front load washers are tanks!

Probably better telling him at the time rather than on here afterwards?

The internet doesn't always have to have to be a dismal place, does it?

I honestly think that’s why they commented like they did. Felt uncomfortable with a genuinely wholesome and positive post. How sad

I’m sure they did. This is a nice extra expression of gratitude presumably. No only for the recipient if they see it, but to remind us all that kindness is still alive and well in Melbs.

Yesss telling all of us spreads the good feels, and who knows, maybe prompt one of us to help out a stranger next time we get the chance. It can’t hurt.
Good luck on the job hunt OP, and thank you for that uplifting story even if not everyone appreciates it

Thanks for sharing. I graduated into the 2008 Recession. It was soul crushing.
I'm so glad you experienced some kindness today. You deserve it.
