It’s such an awful snapshot of the general public, people are always so shocked when the real world doesn’t follow the same moral rhythms as a low-income person in their early 20’s
I think a bigger factor is how many people on reddit have no social life/friends off the internet. You've got people that will argue that it's totally normal to have no real life friends and only socialize on video games and discord. You've got people who talk about having literally 0 friends by the age of 25 as if that's a totally normal life path to go down. People who talk about how the only person they socialize with is their wife and they hate any form of socialization that isn't that.
These people don't reflect the real world because they aren't part of it. They're fuckin losers
Reddit is consistently the most sinophobic social media I use, so I'd beg to differ there. Can't go into any comments section relating to China without people pretending it's a literal hellhole.
They don't have to be pro-Russia to spread propaganda. Russia's goal is to create chaos and increase the rift in American politics, not to just be pro-conservative. While they clearly have more success with the right, they absolutely play both sides and if you can't see that you've likely fallen victim to it.
They already are doing it. I constantly get AI ads of a dude getting dunked on by a woman, so he has to build a better spaceship. Had to switch to fire fox because of ads like those.
It’s funny Redditors that hate the U.S. while also being perpetually online and never going there or knowing anyone were actually mad that Europeans that actually came to the U.S. loved it and the people. It’s so odd
Meh. Europeans also had bad experiences with the dumb parts of the US. It's pretty much what was expected before.
Nice food, bad tipping culture, non walkable cities but let's try anyway, stadiums range from great to questionable.
I can't pinpoint exactly when every fandom subreddit I'm a part of went from jokes, memes, and interesting conversations to incessant bitching and general smarmy negativity, but I sure wish we could go back.
Ya after like 15 yrs on Reddit, it never ceases to amaze me how different most of the world is compared to how it’s viewed on Reddit. America specifically
Yeah what really put me off was when the ooh america is doooooomed front page circlejerk continued on even on the 250th 4th of july. I was like cmon guys can we at least take a one day holiday break from the non-stop negativity? But nope there's no brakes on the reddit doom train not even for a once in a lifetime holiday
What are you talking about? This scandal is a leading news headline around the world and people, most of which have probably never been on, or even heard of reddit, are pissed.
Bro read the room. It’s a scandal all around the world and should have never happened. Referees fuck up all the time (though this time it was 100% deserved btw) yet never get overruled except when the host country is the US and you can’t see the issue.
Not literally, Ronaldo served his 1 game automatic suspension and got a delay on the extra 2 games on account of it being before the World Cup. Which was already massive bullshit and a corrupt/ceiticized decision.
Balogun won’t serve his automatic 1 game suspension. For a card he got in the same tournament. This is 100% unheard of.
Oh FFS it’s a game played on grass where men kick a ball into a net. If you’re angry at 250 million people most of whom know nothing about the game and are just happy to watch it on home soil then get a life. Be angry at FIFA for making the choice. But to be angry at fans most of whom are just trying to enjoy it is something else.
And yet its not gonna make me stop cheering my own country on. Fuck off with this. I am from the US, of course i want my team to win. If you don't, stop watching. Get a hobby. Jesus christ just be happy for the young players playing at the highest level for their country, not for their government, for their country.
I was having a great time until the world's weakest narcissist forced himself on the proceedings. But that's the one thing he's good at, so we shouldn't be surprised.
10yo account with consistent activity in multiple subreddits vs 3 month old account only commenting on soccer subreddit to call everyone that disagrees a bot ?
Maybe English isn't your 1st language and something got lost in translation, or maybe you're young and don't like to use punctuation, but it makes no sense as it reads.
But seriously, I'd love for you to explain to me how FIFA overturning one of the most significant and egregious...overturns (they overturned the call on the field)...is "corruption".
Well this one specifically is a bot I think. Most people online who are exactly who we're talking about have a Chronically Online issue. So just treat them as the special little guy they are lol
I'm less rooting against my own country than I'm rooting for a country with a fanbase that actually gives a damn to win it.
Can you imagine all of the celebrating that WON'T happen across the country if the US wins it all? Way to end one of the worlds largest sporting events with a whimper.
I take it you are stuck in your basement refusing to leave for fear of fresh air.
Here in the real world, enthusiasm hasn't been higher among Americans. It all thats being talked about im sports bars and puns, and even walking around my job I constantly hear tidbits about conversations regarding g this and that with the WC.
Hell, people you wouldnt even think care about sport qere talking about non US teams like Paraguay and cape Verde, and how good they were doing for a while.
America cares, very much, and if the USMT wins it all, the world will hear the roar of celebration.
The longer a nation state is around, and the more secure it is, the more likely its population is to criticise it (presuming an absence of constraints in this area) than 'gtfo'.
And there are an innumerable amount of cases where countries have put political tensions and rivalries aside for the sake of sports.
And in cases where politics affect an athletes ability to play, in case of Olympics, measures are made to allow these athletes to compete under neutral banners
Because its mostly hypocrisy. Probably not this specific case, I dont really know besides the bare minimum. But most of the 'valid' criticisms are just hypocritics barking up the wrong tree. Especially reddit.
I've learned to take none of it seriously at this point.
yeah it’s truly bizarre. You gotta pick the least echo chamber-y sub to look to, which is getting harder and harder, no matter where you stand politically
I commented about Joe Rogan being an asshat in his own sub, and somehow, I got instantly banned from another sub I never heard of; I think it was a feminist sub, but I honestly don't remember. Comment wasn't even in support of him, but just the idea that someone would talk about the man was enough to ding me.
Someone else just said they got banned even though theyre a conservative themself, because their opinion strayed too far from the accepted shared line of thinking
Bro I just got banned from the /r/UFC sub because I had a pro AI comment lmao. People with the typical redditor opinions don't realize bans are used everywhere.
Commies glorify labor, and disagree mostly on ownership of the means of production.
Reddit avoids labor, I wouldn’t give them too much credit with that label.
Is there a political movement for people who don’t want to work and just watch anime and play video games all day? That would be the right fit.
I’m going out in a limb here but I’m going to guess to don’t understand political ideologies very well. The most communist/socialist part of America is the farming industry.
A for-profit private tech company with users competing in an open market for attention and Karma isn’t very communist. Users here are very anti-cooperate, but that is a far cry from communism.
While I don’t think it’s right what’s happening, I find the hypocrisy entertaining. Every other country wouldn’t bat an eye if this happened with them.
Not in football. US is an underdog at the WC so the sentiment towards them is either neutral or positive and so far this tournament it's been positive, but corruption obviously would change that. I genuinely feel like more people wanted Belgium to lose before this decision.
In football, the default stance towards the US team is neutral/positive, and before this it was leaning positive.
Now they flushed trillions of sportwashing dollars down the drain in 24 hours, and did more reputational damage than most of the wars they started this century. Because everyone is watching the world cup.
Buddy what are you talking about? If Mbappe was hit was a red card suspension you know FIFA in less than a heartbeat would hold the suspension. Ronaldo literally had a 2 game suspension lifted to play in the preliminary matches….

So basically reddit as always. No changes.
