Yeah, I messed up and am generally the tech literate of the bunch. The real website blocked my vpn and I thought they just didn't redirect. The scammers paid huge SEO money and were the second link. They cloned the entire page of the real company.Â
The real company was advertising a huge sale, biggest ever sale on all old inventory.Â
I had just bought a legitimate discontinued $35 item for $4 from a legitimate manufacturer website. I work in new product development and know the costs and margins of electronics.Â
I enter my card details into square, square doesn't send the confirmation text, says my card failed.Â
I enter another, sale ends at midnight and it's like 5pm.Â
I call the bank they can't see the transaction, they don't think it's fraud, tell me that it's probably square not them.Â
Email, chat with square they don't know anything.Â
Get my laptop out to write an email. Check website from laptop, it looks off. Mobile site is perfect. Inspect the code and see it is plain text info stealer with real certs.Â
Go to ICANN file complaint, go to hosting provider file complaint, go to square and inform them of copyright infringement and provide for them to file complaint. Go to actual vendor website who blocks vpn access and get them to file complaint.Â
Actual vendor doesn't care about scam website. Not even a thank you in the reply. I decide to not buy from them.Â
My report and square's report takes them down and all "sister" scamming websites.Â
The scam is you forget you entered details, the sale ends and you go back to not wanting the product and don't expect the product because the transaction didn't go through and they use your card to buy gift cards.Â
I also reported immediately to my bank and locked the cards and got new ones and reported to an internet crimes police tool who tracks where stolen cards are used.Â
