Its a human being that died. Likely not in their right mind because they jumped in a tiger enclosure. What are you even trying to compare here? Is the child more deserving of protection? It's just sad. Glad the tiger didn't get hurt. In the best case we wouldn't even keep gorillas and tigers in small enclosures and zoos to be stressed out by hundreds of people. And no one would fall or be able to jump in their enclosures either.

Kids are seen as more innocent (and they are) because they’re tiny and don’t have a full understanding of their actions. An adult male is seen as capable of making their own decisions, and it’s not easy to tell if somebody is having some sort of mental breakdown in the act or just doing something stupid.

In the moment there’s a clear distinction and decisions are made based on that

Okay I understand where that could be the case, but why do we even have to compare these like this and have one be "deserved" and one a tragedy instead of both being clearly tragic and sad things?

Yeah, I think there's a real problem with having a bridge over a tiger enclosure. It just doesn't seem reasonable to me.

EDIT: for those talking about him climbing two fences, the fences are adjacent to one another and one is raised above the other. It appears to me that a good leap from the bridge can take you over both fences. I think that's a real problem.

He climbed 2 fences to get into the enclosure.

One of the fences is directly adjacent to and somewhat below the other. Please watch this video if you don't understand what I mean. They aren't two independent barriers. A good leap from the bridge can take you over both, it seems.

Just so no one gets me wrong. I don't mean every institution needs build in protection for every unlikely event like this (other than maybe not having the animals anyways). For me it is just so confusing why everyone seems almost to have such a big Schadenfreude that this dude seemingly fucked up and found out and died. Even ignoring his state of mind if this wasn't the Internet and a different situation where someones son died even if it was "stupid" like getting mad drunk and hit by a car it would be a tragedy. Maybe it's just a way to cope for most people with everyday news that are just fucked. If he's stupid it's almost comical and we don't need to feel bad and can continue with our day without a bad feeling.

Did you miss the part of OPs comment where he said the child fell in by accident and the adult jumped in on purpose? What are you on about?
