Lots to talk about. Final Game of the preseason hits tonight at 7 PM CST / 8 PM EST, as the Grizzlies host the 1-2 Hornets.

Then we kick off the regular season this Wednesday hosting Jaren and the Jazz at home.

Lots hanging over us as we officially enter this new era. 2 guys will be cut or consolidated in a trade. Rumors of GG being included in trade talks abound, in spite of his incredibly promising preseason performance. Still yet to truly see what Stew looks like in the center rotation. Boozer is leading every rookie of the year poll out there.

How we feeling???

Cameron Boozer wasn’t the top pick in the draft, but he was the top player on one analyst’s board. With a ready-made role as the featured player on a rebuilding Grizzlies team, Boozer is predicted to win Rookie of the Year.

OPINION Older Grizzly fans, when the team originally moved from Vancouver, did most Canadians stick with the team in Memphis, or did they switch over to the Raptors?

Always wanted to know the answer to this considering it was such a major geographical shift for a young team, to not only go to a different location but a different country. And considering all the disgruntlement Seattle fans still have towards OKC, was/is it the same for OG Vancouver fans, or did they bail for the Raptors?

VIDEO Yuki Kawamura received a roaring ovation and a "Yuki" chant as he entered the preseason opener. Ty Lue quickly realized he's unplayable in an NBA-ish setting, took him off the floor after this 3 min stint and never put him back on. He eventually ended up getting waived after 2 games.

JITPOST My perfect weekend

Trade Walt to Miami for a second rounder or whatever and trade Hendricks and Murray to the Kangz for Malik Monk.

No one gets waived and they keep Peavy to see what he's about. It's a bummer to lose Hendricks but moving him would also open up some potential Karim minutes.

Sign GG for 4-years/$76 or something. I honestly don't know where his market is, but I think if you want to extend him then you do it asap because he's poised for a breakout season.

Then you roll into the season with:
First: Ty, Ced, Wells, Boozer, Edey
Second: Spencer, Monk, Grant, GG, Beef Stew
Bench: SPJ, Peavy, OMax, Karim, Post

Don't be stingy with Javon minutes early in the season and then find him a roster spot around the deadline. Dump Peavy if he's not a fit, otherwise bye to Grizz Legend Malik Monk?

Two guys are going to leave this weekend and I'll miss whoever it is. Even Walt. Even if it's Peavy, who was one twisted ankle away from maybe becoming my favorite player of all time but we might never find out.

Tell me how dumb I am, whatever, but at least tell me your two guys, you coward!

OPINION Why do people put a hard cap on Boozer’s ceiling?

Post image
35 Upvotes

Something I’ve noticed since the draft process is commentators everywhere, both fans and members of the media, always seem to put a cap on Boozer’s ceiling.

They will say things like “oh AJ/DP/Caleb will be an MVP one day but boozer will be an all-star once or twice and at best be a 22/10/5 player.”

It seems like a forgone conclusion at this point. But what I don’t understand is why does the guy who has won at every level, consistently shown an obsessive winning mentality, and is coming to the league with all the necessary just get the “he’ll just be a solid player” label?

I get he’s not as flashy, but all those other guys have holes in their game. I understand him having a hard capped ceiling based on the playing time he’ll get in the grizzlies current system, but people were saying this before he was even drafted.

The other guys might be elite shooters, but if you look at Boozer’s college stats how can you say his record breaking impact across the board was anything but elite?

OPINION Trading GG soon benefits him and the Grizz

Post image
0 Upvotes

I've been a critic of GG for years. I've never questioned his talent or potential. My issue has always been whether he can put it all together consistently enough to become a reliable star in this league.

And to his credit, he's shown tremendous improvement this preseason.

Which is exactly why I think it's time to trade him.

GG is an unrestricted free agent after this season. If he continues playing like this, I have little doubt another team will be willing to offer him more money and a bigger role than the Grizz can.

And we've got other financial considerations coming.

Ty Jerome has a $9M player option next season. If he continues playing at this level, I can't imagine he exercises it. He's going to command significantly more money. We've also got to think about Edey and Coward and what their next contracts could look like.

The reality is that we can't pay everybody. And even if we could afford GG, I'm not convinced we can offer him the role another team would.

So unless you genuinely believe this team is winning a championship this season, I don't see the logic in potentially letting a valuable asset walk for nothing next summer.

I'm not saying trade him for whatever you can get... I'm saying his improvement presents an opportunity to maximize his value while we still have him under contract.

We've watched this front office spend much of the past 18 months looking for opportunities to sell high on assets. I have a hard time believing they aren't looking at GG through that same lens.

I like GG. I hope he has a great career. But I think the smart move for the long term future of the Grizzlies is to explore trading him while his value is rising.

NEWS [Fischer] The Lakers, the Bucks, the Grizzlies and the Hornets are currently all over the roster limit of 15 players and must trim their squad before Monday's deadline. The first 3 are exploring potential trades while Charlotte is weighing the locker room value of retaining Pat Connaughton.
