Siberian Breaks Appreciation Post

I've been a casual MGMT fan for a long time, always appreciated and known the hits. I'm a long time aussie psych enjoyer - Tame, Pond, GUM, PPC, Gizz, the likes, plus their involvement with touring with Andrew and Ben. MGMT has been a group that for the longest time I've told myself "Man, I really need to get into these guys' discog." Siberian Breaks comes on. Mind blown. I went through a 3-week period where I would listen to it 6 times a day, some times three times in a row. Siberian Breaks is one of the best songs that has ever graced my ears. Congratulations is PHENOMENAL. I'm an active member of the Tame subreddit and see posts like this about some of Kevin's hits and my reaction is always, "Yeah, no shit." Well, here I am in your guys' space doing the same thing. I fucking love this song, have never heard anything like it, and probably will never hear anything like it again. Put it in the Louvre.

Whats the dj set like?

Going to the Austin dj set and I can’t find any videos of their dj sets longer than 2 minutes on youtube. I want to know what the vibe is before inviting my friends (we love house and techno) ✨

Another loonie post that this subreddit wasnt made for

I know this subreddit has a lot of crazies as it is and gets saturated by irrelevant rambles that take away from the band. Even worse is when people try to promote their music saying "we are a band inspired by MGMT!! check us out" and then it sounds nothing like mgmt. well i wont go that far... to say my shit sounds like mgmt. But here i'll get to the point i wanna say.

I've been making/ fucking around with music for like 8 years now. It's always been a dream/goal of mine to make an album and then share it on this sub. Even tho I personally cringe when people do it, I've always aspired to have the chance to myself because MGMT is literally what motivated me to start making music. I've always referred to their music as "sound art". Specifically their 3rd album was the main inspiration for me. After listening to ILY2D, I realized i had to try to make my own soundscapes cause sound art is just magic.

I only have 5 artist that i truly can say have influenced me. I think I might be neurodivergent. Because my whole life I've only listened to one artist at a time due to my phases of hyper obsession with artists that in get into. I don't even know what my favorite genre is. I only know these are the artists that have ever really captivated me. Heres a timeline of that hyper obsession:

birth-2009: LINKIN PARK
2010-2013: Eminem
2012-2014: Tyler, the Creator
2014-2016: Pink Floyd
2016-2020: MGMT
2018-2025: Me

its a rough estimate and its misleading to give a cutoff to any of these artists (except maybe tyler the creator tho i still listen to his old shit) because I still only mainly play them when I wanna listen to music. Its why i hate discussing music or getting aux because all i would wanna play are the deep cuts from these artists.

As you can see tho, MGMT was the last phase of obsession for an artist i've ever had. I looked up to them heavy and even started my first reddit account just so i could join this sub. They inspired my tastes and influence super heavily and i've always longed to achieve the psychedelic masterpieces that they did. Leading to me buying my first laptop and just experimenting on GarageBand. It is literally what has kept me going for most my adult life. just dreaming about turning these rough draft instrumentals i'd make into full fledge songs.

But I dont know whats wrong with me. I cant seem to find the motivation to actually finish them. I know it has something to do with me finding having to sing on them stressful, for my voice is hard to make right sometimes. and i dont know how to effectively produce it on garageband. But the beats man, to this day they have this insane grip on me that convinced me that some day the day will come and i will be able to finish a fucking song and even an album. I have the vision in my mind for like 4 different albums worth right now but i just cant seem to commit to making them with these songs that i have. I'm just so used to bumping the instrumentals and wasting hella gas going circles around my block having them on repeat just like i used to do with MGMT. I'm my own favorite artist now. At least i was.... I dont really listen to music anymore. Its too painful.

I feel like i'm too far past these old songs and too old to developed them with the voice that i hear in my head when i play them. It saddens me. I really thought I'd be a genuinely interesting artist someday, just like my idols.

Im not in a good place rn. I've been depressed for such a long time. I think this is what might have contributed to me putting off these albums in the first place. Now I'm in a place where i think im just at my last leg. and just incase I dont ever get the chance to, I wanted to just do what i've always fantasized about and share one of my unfinished albums here in the sub. I just always thought this was a genuinely perfect place for me to do so if i ever did finish it because I feel like because i've only listened to 5 artists my whole life the influence would heavily show. And i dont know what other genre it would fit into because it's so me. And a lot of me is just trying to reach MGMT's level of composition. And pink floyd. theyre like the main 2 that inspire me the most. My goal in life was to eventually make a song on par with echoes and siberian breaks.

anyway, im rambling. im sorry. I dont sound anything like mgmt tbh. but if you'd be so kind to take a listen to my rough draft of an album with no singing, it'd probably motivate me to keep going.

heres my unfinished album that i wanted to release 4 years ago: https://soundcloud.com/gebrualarchive/sets/untitled-album?si=1ee6ef37aae84e2b9af71085b852f99a&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing

tell me if you can hear my influences...

Anyone have full 2018/2019 live performances?

Would to see some full live mgmt concerts in their Little Dark Age era. I've searched endlessly on Youtube, but would love to view some unseen performances! Especially the title track.

Does he say rollick? After the six minute mark. I’ve been trying to figure it out for years. Very fitting and beautiful if so.

Are every CDs of LDA faulty like this? The artwork is completely messed up. I'm pretty positive my copy is not a bootleg, since I've seen this on numerous others, and I keep seeing this on very legit copies, and even on brand new ones in the shop. (not amazon btw). Is your copy like this?

Or maybe it's a regional thing where they botched the print on a large scale. I'm in France btw. On the CD, it's clearly stated "made in the EU", so maybe american copies are different? I care more about the music, but that's mildly annoying.

(^ rented a studio space to make these mostly during covid)

that RI show was amazing. very intimate venue and saw some dude running out of the crowd yelling "I have to get out of here!" likely bc he was peaking and only knew them from Kids or Electric Feel. super drunk little person became my homie. thank u u/OneMeringue4630

We love you guys, but who stole your synth power cables?! Loss of Life is cool, but my speakers are literally falling asleep.

Please plug the synths back into the high-voltage outlet and give us those explosive 2007 bangers again! We miss the "Kids" and "Electric Feel" energy! cuz i fell asleep one time!
