Too mild for school My stepdad keeps putting these things all over the house

Post image

He refuses to believe that they're a scam despite showing multiple videos of people testing them and ripping them open and showing that it's legit just an led light. It started with just 1 before I went on a small trip. I come back and there's 3 more around the house

Maybe so, but it gets worse ten fold as you get into old age because many people double down on their strange habits/theories.

Questioning yourself and critical thinking isn't fun. It also takes energy. Some people just aren't bothered, or simply refuse. Some aren't capable.

It’s scary to think it’s most people now. I always tell the young people critical thinking is the most important thing you can do

And scarier that there's not much to be done about it. Introspection and deep thought are more natural inclinations than they are choices. We are all simply products of our DNA and environments. Those of us who do think deeply aren't better for doing so, we're lucky that we do it at all.

I suspect the distribution of the different levels of critical thinking has been similar throughout human history and that we have only recently created a world where people with shallower cognition don't fit in as easily. I mean, think about even the early industrial age. Assembly lines took tons of humans to run them and most of their jobs looked like "Push this button. When x happens, pull this lever, make sure the product doesn't have visible defects, and then push this button." If someone did that long enough, they would often get a pension and be set for life. The bar for being "deserving" has been raised significantly higher by so much of the old repetitive manual labor being automated.

Not that I have any suggestions for humanity or anything. This is just my thinking to try and understand WHY the world has ended up the way it has. It's easier for me to accept when it can be explained.

I highly enjoy self critique. Been this way since a child. Strong personality trait.

Yes it is draining. Reddit is a great place to have other people critique your thoughts.

Lead gets stored in your bones and starts leeching out real fast when you get past 50.

Does it get transfered through blood to the next generations as well? Because I swear 20 year olds are as gullible as 70 year olds.

I think the 20 y/o's suffer from a bit of experiential ignorance paired with blind confidence.

Bingo. 20 year old me was cocky and stupid and made exceptionally poor decisions.

Which is funny considering 70 year olds have had almost 4x as much time to wise up :P
