I’ve actually had someone in a small market I go to press no tip himself to get through the prompts before turning it to me to pay. Almost looked like the owner added the tip screen but either those didn’t actually go to the staff or they didn’t like it / found it too awkward. After a few weeks he didn’t do that any more. Assuming management wasn’t too happy with it
I've sadly actually seen this happen. The manager told them "go get a lawyer" and then ran off. He hired college-aged people, so he very well knew they didn't have the resources to sue him.
I do it because people just stare at me and don’t even look at the tip prompt, which I know they’re more than likely going to skip. Several other reasons but the main reason is because people are zombies.
Haha yeah I watched someone slapping his card against the machine while it was asking for tip. Lol employee was like wtf? I told you to hit this red button to skip.
Happened to me. I used to work at a small alcoholic shaved ice stall in a community hall and had the same system set up. One day I notice one of my coworkers taking a picture of the system's report of our sales for the day which included total tips. I asked him why and he explained that he had done the math for a while and found that the amount of tips we were receiving on our paychecks was substantially less than what should have been. He said he was gonna keep collecting evidence and submit to the Department of Labor/state workforce commission. He did so and the process took a while, so long in fact that a couple months after I left the place and was working elsewhere, I got an email stating I had an incoming paycheck from them and was confused. Lo and behold it was a large sum of money labeled as tips. Messaged old coworkers including the one who did the reporting and they also had the same thing. Spitefully, I messaged the owner/manager of the business and asked why we were receiving it. They didn't respond lol
I use to do residential HVAC and we would charge cards through our iPads. There was a tip option that started at 20%. I skipped thru it every time and no customers ever saw it. I would’ve felt like a beggar as I was already making decent money. And 20%-30% on an already expensive repair bill felt like a scam. But, if they offered to tip in cash I gladly accepted because it felt like that was something they planned on doing themselves.
Not tipping but for back to school my store added an option where someone could add a certain amount to get kids back to school stuff. Well I get a LOOOT of Spanish only speaking customers so at one point I got into the habit of just pressing no automatically for them lmfao.
