I canāt focus on the rest of the video. All I can think about is how the spider I think came from her pants?????????

I thought the spider would go into her button fly jeans. I was disappointed.

There's a whole subreddit of people that have pet jumping spiders and stuff, maybe she's one of those people.

Honestly I prefer regular jumping spiders. Lucas is just so exaggerated that it loops back into being creepy.

I'm fine with web spiders. It's the ground spiders that get a big as your hand and are fast that I'm not a fan of.
37
u/PsychicNinja_ Jan 09 '26
All of them scare the hell out of me, all sizes and all kinds. Itās just jumping spiders. I came face to face with one when I was working in a floral department, and it scared me at first, but then it was looking directly at me with its big eyes and Iāve loved them ever since.

u/Interface- Jan 09 '26
I adore the way they tilt their heads to look up at people. You can see the intelligence and curiosity in their eyes.
13
u/PsychicNinja_ Jan 09 '26
Thatās exactly it. That little spider I saw looked right at me and it was just different. Iāve never forgotten that tiny thing and those big eyes.

u/Mr_Tiggywinkle Jan 09 '26
You can see the intelligence and curiosity in their eyes.
Fun fact - Jumping spiders specifically are responsible for scientists re-thinking how much cognitive ability is possible with tiny brains, because they are capable of way more advanced thinking than previously thought possible. Tracking out-of-sight targets for hours, adapting to situations etc.

u/CampAstoria Jan 09 '26
The ones that kick open (their tiny) doors and suck the prey inside. Nightmare fuel.

Fun fact about jumping spiders incoming.
They got 8 eyes, 6 which are more like close surround sensors. They react mostly to movement and light changes, but it allows a wide perspective.
Then they also have 2 bigger eyes facing forward. They create a more focused vision. They can see sharp for a few meters (which is amazing considering the size of their eyes), but only in a very small spot.
Jumping spiders are amazing creatures

There are a TON of things I'm fine with as long as aren't big enough to hunt me and spiders are near the top

u/Additional-Local8721 Jan 09 '26
We have Brown Recluse in Texas. Maybe the size of a dime but it's venom can eat a softball size hole into you. I will save any other spider but those.
22
u/Green-Berry-436 Jan 09 '26
Ummmm we have them in KS too and with their legs I've seen some in my own basement the size of a silver dollar. š«£
→ More replies (6)7
u/sparhawk817 Jan 09 '26
Brown recluse bites are significantly more rare than they are reported and treated for, but since most people come in saying they think it was a Brown recluse without a picture of it first or the spider in a ziplock bag or whatever, they just have to assume the victim is right, from what I understand.Study on 3 families living with Brown recluse infestations and the lack of bites
6
u/Throwaway_Consoles Jan 09 '26
Iāve lived with brown recluse in the house for⦠19 years now? In that time Iāve been bitten twice. The first bite was bad, my leg looked scary, the second bite left a scar roughly the size of a cigar burn on my arm so that was kinda cool I guess.
Either way, theyāre super chill and I donāt have to worry about bugs in my house
We have an unspoken agreement (well, I told them the agreement when I moved in but I donāt think they understood) āStick to your corners and Iāll stay out of themā. Thereās even one in my shower! I named him Frank because Iām not creative with names but Frank is a G. I pretend to give him an air fist bump sometimes when Iām in a good mood

You should read āchildren of timeā itās an incredible science fiction book if you find the idea of large jumping spiders and ants interesting.

u/kaas_is_leven Jan 09 '26
If it helps, that's not how physics works. The spider is fast because of the low mass / small size. They move using (essentially) hydraulics, which can be near instant when moving a tiny bit of fluid, but to move more mass you need more fluid in the pipes which takes longer to move around so the spider is slower. Eventually this entire system wouldn't work anymore, which is why larger animals have muscles. Also inertia, regardless of how fast the system can work, changing acceleration takes more energy as mass increases. The cat would have to overcome that extra cost too.

u/Cromagmadon Jan 09 '26
That square-cube law keeping everything proportionate to available nutrition. What we need is some Carboniferous-period oxygen levels again to get huuuuge insects (after a few thousand years).

Itās incredible to watch those little guys. They seem so much more intelligent than other spider, they have a proper little personality of their own. Amazing creatures

u/MochiFluffs Jan 09 '26
Is it me, or did the wolf spider do happy mouth clicks like cats do when they see a bird, prior it to it pouncing? Kinda cute!š
5
u/Yeetsformer Jan 09 '26
Itās a jumping spider
4
u/MochiFluffs Jan 09 '26
Thanks! They both look similar to me.

u/Yeetsformer Jan 09 '26

I used to have jumping spiders as pets, and I fed them with flies and other insects I caught around the house. I'd purposefully swat the flies with just enough force to incapacitate them, but not smoosh them completely. Into the death jars they went.
2
u/LungHeadZ Jan 09 '26
Everytime i watch this with the same enthusiasm.
The way itās little fangs?..rattle in the air, then a simple grab to the lip of the plate, like itās nothing. The slow inclined turn to the left. Just before that āblink or youāll miss itā pounce. Pure cinema

Apex predator right there. Exceptionally capable little killing machine.

u/LordOffal Jan 09 '26
My mother raised me to really quite love spiders she always said they were doing good work. I managed to pass that view on to my wife too who was initially very scared of spiders but now appreciates the insect killing job they do.
2
u/sealysea Jan 10 '26
idk why but the movement and the colors on it makes it look like a smol little cat
2
u/SammySweets Jan 10 '26
Here I am in a Friday night spending time cheering on a spider catching a fly. Adulthood is not what I thought it would be.
2
2
u/BriefDismal Jan 10 '26
Wow, were the frames cut? Because i have seen this on repeat where the spider seems to teleport in the last mili second to get the fly. There's a reason this predator hasn't changed for millions of years because it is efficient.

I like that in its little head there's a tiny brain that knows how to stalk its prey like a cat would, and also how its surrounded by humans that could kill it with ease, but for some reason feels completely safe.

u/Difficult-Gur766 Jan 17 '26

Second, that spider is so fast, that it moved faster than the frame rate. It basically became vibrational and teleported š
