humankind hiccups 😅 Well this aged like milk.

Post image

Stumbled upon this while clearing out the attic.

She visited my primary school in Edinburgh shortly after releasing TPS. The girl in front of me (my friend and train-to-school comrade) was Southeast Asian and has an incredibly elaborate sounding name. When Joanne screwed up her face when my friend gave her her name for the signature, I laughed. This is how she decided to sign my copy.

I was laughing at you, JK.

EDIT: It’s on EBay.

It's questionable whether or not I should say. Webcomics, though.

Oh, well that just makes so much sense lmao

Yep. Not surprised. I sent him (Jeph Jaques) a message asking him why he didn't denounce incels reordering a comic of his (can't find it now, referred to rape) and his reply was totally shitty.

He was a dick at comic expos too.

u/rsemauck May 02 '26

oh what was his answer?

Sad to hear, I haven't been following anymore but it was a big part of my student years...

I went digging for screenshots, but it looks like that account has been wiped. It was basically him being all "What do you want me to do about it", but with a lot more profanity. I felt like he was more upset about me bothering him than he was about the incels rearranging his art into a rape comic. This was back in the day when webcomic artists were DMCAing a lot of things. He just couldn't be be bothered.

And he was such a stuck up Grouch irl.

He was pleasant enough when I met him at a venue, and his partner was awesome, but it's just shitty and rude to treat your fans like that.

I mean he sounds like an asshole but if I had a bunch of people (I'm assuming you weren't the only one) getting mad at me for something other people were doing outside of my control, I'd probably tell you to piss off too.

The dude is a prick who's high on his own sense of self-important moral superiority, and ironically it causes him to act like a jerk and be completely incapable of ever acknowledging wrongdoing or accepting criticism.

Ahh that's so sad, my high school years coincided with the start of his webcomic and I've always liked his stuff (as you can probably guess from my username).

Seems like a lot of the webcomic creators from the mid 2000s turned out to be jerks :'(

Only tangentially related as it’s an author of a mid 2000s webcomic, but really just an excuse to plug a good human-I had an issue with an order (it was my mistake) from the creator of Sheldon/Drive (Dave Kellet) and he was absolutely lovely about it. Really seemed like a great human being :).

who is it?

1

u/possiblyquestionabl3 May 03 '26

It's http://questionablecontent.net/ which was pretty big for a while in the late 2000s early 2010s

2

u/TickTockTacky May 02 '26

Katie Tiedrich of Awkward Zombie is still awesome and still does comics

2

u/KrytenKoro May 02 '26

Ahhhh. Yeah, I always got weird vibes from him, stopped reading the webcomic because of it

I met him once, he seemed nice, his partner was lovely, but that was just shitty treatment so I won't give him my support.

I was a daily reader but it was becoming a slog with all the new flavour of the week characters, stopped completely at Dora and Tai's wedding. He did them so dirty.

u/FormalConcern4862 May 02 '26

I met an acquaintance of that writer at a party when i complimented his merch and he said, "oh people actually read that? I just know the guy he gave me a free shirt" lmfao

Ouch, that's kind of a nasty accidental burn, lol.

OMG I was never directly involved in this debacle but I distinctly remember when it went down. It was one of those things where like, dude, take the L, do what you promised you would do and move on. Learn from the mistake and make the terms clearer next time. Lots of folks end up on the wrong side of the law because we're still figuring out how those laws should work and unfortunately this was one of the growing pains. Nothing personal, but this was a situation where discretion was the better part of valor and you could have just figured it out for next time.

If it makes you feel just the tiniest bit better, their website seems to be down.

I feel like there's a perfect adjective for their current content, but it escapes me...

2

u/KeyboardJammer May 03 '26

Oh lmao this is genuinely the least surprising thing I've ever heard.

Is it loss?

“questionable”

Webcomics

I’m going with Questionable Content.

2

u/KrytenKoro May 02 '26

It is not.

2

u/No_Introduction_3210 May 02 '26

Fair haha, would be funny though

Just worked it out and googled it to check out the content because I had never heard of it, but the website has gone 404

I recommend deleting your comments/account asap, if everything said here is accurate. Like, now

u/_mersault May 02 '26

You okay? This is giving heavy paranoia - there’s a myriad of reasons a site would be out and it’s probably not a slightly derisive Reddit post.

2

u/FerrisLies May 02 '26

I'd never heard of the guy before but he sounds like a dick. Maybe its a coincidence, but the top Google result being down makes me think its recent, and reddit brigades, and dicks are litigous.

4

u/EpicFishFingers May 02 '26

Got any examples of content creators successfully suing a reddit commenter for expressing their opinion, leading to the content creator's website crashing under the sudden increase in web traffic?

2

u/Pretend-Marsupial258 May 02 '26

The last comic that was posted was called Disappearing Act, so it might have just been the end (or it's a stunt).

2

u/ncc74656m May 02 '26

It's funny that you think one comment on a random reddit post with 66 up votes is going to drive enough people to crash a site. Even if you assume it did, I never called for anyone to go there, and really, being a dick to one of your fans isn't even like a really good reason to brigade someone, much less DDOS them. In fact, I'd just really rather people didn't interact with it at all.

Oh. Shit. Wait. 66... ORDER 66... Dammit! I knew I never should've put that one in redditors' control chips.

1

u/Emotional_Position62 May 02 '26

You realize they can really only sue for defamation of anything said was false, right?

4

u/Asmuni May 02 '26

The subreddit of that comic has somebody asking why the site is gone 7 hours ago. So no commenter above isnt in some grave danger.

1

u/DavesPetFrog May 02 '26

Oh shit it is offline

1

u/uterussy May 02 '26

coincidence if anything? terminally online people will do crazy shit, but idk, if this even were in some way the reason, should we just stop telling anecdotes about people being shitty in general?
