humankind hiccups 😅 Well this aged like milk.

Post image

Stumbled upon this while clearing out the attic.

She visited my primary school in Edinburgh shortly after releasing TPS. The girl in front of me (my friend and train-to-school comrade) was Southeast Asian and has an incredibly elaborate sounding name. When Joanne screwed up her face when my friend gave her her name for the signature, I laughed. This is how she decided to sign my copy.

I was laughing at you, JK.

EDIT: It’s on EBay.

They all seem normal to me. Like woah, you mean to tell me the magical school that finds young wizards all over the world wouldn’t have names from all over the world?

Hogwarts student body is just from the UK and possibly Ireland.

Other places have their own wizarding schools like Beauxbatons in France, Durmstrang in Northern Europe/Scandinavia (known to accept pupils from Germany and Bulgaria), Koldovstoretz in Russia and Ilvermony in America

People from other countries can choose to go. Malloy almost went to durmatrang. You dont have to go to the school thats closest but most kids do

Malfoy is from an elite pureblood family, with wealthy and well connected parents. I doubt the opportunities available to him are available to the majority

I mean if the game is cannon there's a character who's not super rich and connected who came from the Africa school. Kids from muggle families probably dont go elsewhere bc they don't know about the other schools but I imagine if you know of a school and want to go you can apply to go to any of the other schools. Maybe they all have different rules on who the accept but I imagine its like regular prep/private schools where you can apply

Which game are you referring to?

Unless JK Rowling was involved in the development, they shouldn’t count as canon. As far as I could find out, the only game JK Rowling was meaningfully involved with was the Order of the Phoenix one, where she helped create rules for certain games like Gobstones, which were later confirmed as canon.

Also, this isn’t really touched on in the books because they have a UK focus, but the magic and wizarding culture is heavily based on European magic traditions, which obviously European magic schools would teach. Whereas Africa or Asia have slightly different magic traditions, which I would assume would be reflected in their schools.

For example, I would be very surprised if a person from African or Asian pureblood family used Latin based spells, considering their languages are not related to Latin. Something like “incendio” would be fairly intuitive for a person speaking a Latin based language, but it would not for someone speaking a native African language
