humankind hiccups 😅 Tongue tissue after eating too much Sour Patch Kids

Post image

As title says, I ate too many sour patch kids and I believe the citric acid caused the top layer of tongue to die and peel off in this interesting pattern. No pain whatsoever throughout process. No bleeding either.
And for anyone curious, it was a small 12 oz bag I believe. I rarely ever eat candy and I forgot to brush my teeth that night so I’m assuming that’s why it happened in the first place. Picture of my tongue right afterwards somewhere in the comments

Ads are really funny on here sometimes. Today I saw a post about a cat having a seizure and op looking for advice, and the ad was for pet insurance.

u/lrpiccolo Jul 21 '26

Oh god got the same ad and thought it was a comment at first.

Mines are popsicles, and the quote is “the popsicle flavors are feuding. Who’s in the right?”

the ad timing is on purpose. they use ai to read the post and determine an ad that would be best suited to the topic of post. in this case, the post is about eating candy, so the ad will be for candy.

well a lot of people don't understand it. i think it's important for people to know that ads are becoming less random by the day and everything is designed to make you want to buy more, companies pour millions upon millions of dollars engineering stuff like this. it's insidious, in my opinion.

sure man

I’m starting to think the follow up post in the comments is part of the marketing push, because every post involving tongue, teeth, mouth has the same screenshot posted in the comments talking about the ad.

ad timing is on purpose, but not because of AI. programmatic and contextual targeting have been standard practice in digital advertising for decades.

ads like this are keyword targeted, this post just slipped through the keyword exclusion filter for an awkward placement because the only negative sentiment words in the post are “die” and “pain” which are too generic to use as exclusion filters

1

u/SandManic42 Jul 21 '26

They have to be targeting this post.

1

u/throwaway_acc746 Jul 21 '26

They didn’t target me :(

1

u/allisondojean Jul 21 '26

How do people have ads on Reddit, do people actually accept this shit now? Where's your adblock?

2

u/FreeWalrus6769 Jul 21 '26

Some of us don’t care and aren’t gullible enough to be baited by ads.

0

u/CaptainCFloyd Jul 21 '26

And the same people think it's perfectly fine to see one article at a time while vapidly scrolling on their little pacifier devices.

u/FreeWalrus6769 Jul 21 '26

God you seem like the worst

1

u/Automatic_Cherry_471 Jul 23 '26

That made me wince, make a sound I’ve never heard or made before, and physically recoiled.

u/ThePerryPerryMan Jul 21 '26

Omg, can you imagine if the ads are based on the post???
