Girrrrl you dont understand. 6 years ago, my spouse was selling a some sort of foot pump for bikes, and I jokingly said "let me put on a heel and be a foot model" and it was like 2 mediocre photos of my foot, IN PAJAMAS, but one fancy heel.
My spouse logged in to that account some months ago, and some guy had messaged him thinking it was me, a YEAR LATER, saying he still thinks of/misses my feet 😭

Don’t suppose you’ve ever been evaluated for hypermobility?
18
u/TheZodiac404 Sep 02 '26
I have not!
12
u/deadlychicken123 Sep 02 '26
My wrists and ankles do this. My knees also pop for the first ~10 times I drop down kinda like a squat, but bending the knee all the way (if that makes sense)
8
u/ButtfuckedByJesus Sep 02 '26
Like a poo toilet in some Asian countries?
I broke my fibula in December and it didn't heal so doing the Asian toilet poo squat makes it pop, somehow painless and also somehow haven't gotten sepsis 10 months later.

9
u/TheZodiac404 Sep 02 '26
Wow that’s a lot. I’ve never really thought about looking into it, thought it was normal for so long. Thanks I’m going talk to my doctor about it.
→ More replies (2)4
u/Feine13 Sep 02 '26
They'll likely send you to a specialist that will ask you about your history to see if they can pick out any symptoms you may have thought were normal
They also have you do a flexibility test where they see how far your joints will go compared to the average range of motion.
I thought my specialist was new because her face became squeamish at times. She said "oh, no, i see this frequent enough that I just know how badly your joints must hurt sometimes" lol
→ More replies (0)5
u/TheZodiac404 Sep 02 '26
Yes it does! My knees pop too if I’ve been bending my knees like squatting or sitting Indian style, but they pop backward and I hate that shit
9
u/HairyPotatoKat Sep 02 '26
u/TheZodiac404 That sounds like subluxation. Classic hypermobility thing. You should ask your doctor to test you for hypermobility, or send you to someone who can test you for that, including testing your range of motion, and to evaluate why you're hypermobile.
A lot of people mention EDS but there can be other disorders, or it can just be a nonspecific hypermobility.
In any case it is good to get it checked out because it can help you qualify for physical therapy that will help safely strengthen muscles that support those joints or possibly things like orthotics or joint support devices like various forms of braces to wear when you're needing extra support.
Source: I also didn't realize my foot joint flexibility, knee subluxing backwards, how far my hands stretch backwards, or any other thing was abnormal. Thought it was cool I could pick things up with my toes, stand like you in your video, and had fun freaking boys out in elementary by popping my shoulder in and out of place lol.
Took a podiatrist and physical therapist both being like "uh.......you need to get that checked out" to actually start that process. The PT went so far as to measure every single joint's range of motion.
Tldr; go get it checked out. Caveat: some docs are better about it than others.

u/ventilatorman Sep 02 '26

9
u/TheZodiac404 Sep 02 '26

6
u/ventilatorman Sep 02 '26
Welcome to the club! The odds were good, as hypermobility has a much higher prevalence among neurodivergents :)
3
u/StopFalseReporting Sep 02 '26

my life (dancer and exercise instructor) is just one foot cramp after another.
the best part is when i get a bottom of the foot cramp while pointing my toes that turns into top of the foot cramp when i stretch it out and i have to just let my muscles cramp it out.
5
u/SlideN2MyBMs Sep 02 '26

u/Picklecheese2018 Sep 02 '26
Ooof this was happening to me last night for the first time in a while. I take magnesium nightly for RLS and foot cramps. The toes trying to rearrange themselves and the “hot dog bun foot” -when the cramp feels like it’s folding my foot in half lengthwise- are top of my least favorite body malfunctions.
→ More replies (22)3
u/NewsWeeter Sep 02 '26
Huh, you're probably dehydrated too. Also for next time, sticking your heel out and pulling your toes up (a movement called dorsiflexion) is the fastest and most effective way to stop a sudden calf cramp.

Ok as someone who did ballet for over a decade, and who was pushed in to pointe way too young; I’m not sure honestly haha xD I mean I THINK you’d get less aching while learning to support yourself with your weight on your foot bones in a vertical vs horizontal position (shits rough). But then flexibility doesn’t necessarily mean you can support the lean muscle needed to hold the contorted positions stock still the way you need to. BUTTTT if you’re generally flexible all over that could help…
Yeah idk I’m confused still xD but I admire your strangeness lolol. Thank you for sharing. Maybe try out contortionism as a hobby :) if you fits you sits maybe.

Hahaha ok eleven gold stars for effort. If you don’t already own ridiculously tall stripper heels to wear on bad days, I highly recommend. They’re slightly more tolerable if you can stand like that; and I swear on everything nothing makes a bad day better than turning on 90s club rap to do mundane house things in stripper heels. XD I also recommend owning a sword for similar reasons but I digress lolol.
16
u/TheZodiac404 Sep 02 '26

I did 9 years of ballet + several years of modern while being bendy all over like this! It helped in some ways but I got a lot of ankle sprains starting around age 13. And then I got joint problems wayyy earlier than a normal person.
→ More replies (4)5
u/YourPaleRabbit Sep 02 '26
Yuuuup that’ll do it. That’s why I always tell people specifically I was pushed to pointe too young; that shits so gnarly on your body while it’s still developing. My right ankle still occasionally decides to not ankle sometimes a decade later. I did a random mural gig the other day and wore a compression thingy and still ended up all fucked up lol. And I got off lucky with that.
I think I’d be more at peace with it if I had kept even an ounce of the grace along with the soft tissue injuries lol.

I am. Learning a lot from this comment section 😃 In the sense that I am yelling at my screen saying "WHAT DO YOU MEAN MY NORMAL DAILY EXPERIENCE ISN'T ACTUALLY NORMAL???"
I mean I already knew i was hypermobile, but there are new things i am learning about it that my body does, and finding out that isn't the norm for most people is just mildly concerning LMAO
Ironically enough, long before i ever found out about this, i was a serious swimmer, and then later a competitive gymnast—that was before multiple reoccuring partially torn achilles tendon injuries across a handful of years ended my gymnastics career. This, mayhaps, should have been the glaringly obvious warning of my hypermobility... or my ability at the time to do back walkovers—literally folding my spine to bend backwards and land on my hands. But hey yknow 🤷♀️ :))
3
u/ribeye256 Sep 03 '26
Nice! You can pretend to have no toes! Wish I had a good talent as a gag.
3
u/TheZodiac404 Sep 03 '26
I’m sure you do! And if not you can always just try and learn something. I always wanted to be able to do the water drop noise like on Farris Bueller and I looked up how to do it on Google. I learned it and now I can do it without even flicking my cheek.

Most people can't use their feet for extra hands. Before my medical got bad enough to cause severe mobility issues, I could climb up stuff with just hands & feet. I won bets while drinking at parties by doing that on people & holding myself entirely up by myself. The skill has proven incredibly useful for if my cane falls over or I get stuck somewhere. I can just use my feet/toes to retrieve thing or pull myself towards something to pull me back up.
