I see it. I want to believe it. And I want to see more.

27

u/GeekDadIs50Plus Sep 04 '26

…and rescue all of the other issues inside the store.

u/disgracedkitty Sep 04 '26

Smallville and Ryan Reynolds green lantern........these poor comics have been there for a while.

u/Longjumping-Ad-9444 Sep 04 '26

2010-2012 kickass to green lantern

Someone else posted a pic. Looks like stuff from about 5 years ago when Dolly was 75 and Among Us was out

So probably closed due to covid.

The Marijuana one has a sticker about being the "2021" update, so definitely close to that

1

u/Soupcon_ Sep 04 '26

Am I the only one noticing this looks like blatant AI with a lot of the letters and words

2

u/Junebugvandamme Sep 05 '26

Where exactly? Everything is legible & looks 100% legit, I dont notice a single oddity & you used the word blatant.

2

u/Soupcon_ Sep 05 '26

Looking again I think it’s maybe from the sun damage, but a lot of the letter for the smaller print have the ai word jumble appearance. Like on the blue circle on the marijuana magazine

u/GuerillaRiot Sep 04 '26

Must have closed sometime in 2006 based on some of those issue numbers

I'm thinking a little bit more recent post 2011, if you look you can see what looks like a comic book tie-in for the Ryan Reynolds Green lantern movie very top left.. I was trying to figure out the date too and was thinking early 2000s until I saw that

8

u/AxelShoes Sep 04 '26

And isn't that Hit-Girl from the Kick-Ass movie on the magazine cover next to that one? So definitely 2010 or later.

6

u/GuerillaRiot Sep 04 '26

Geez, no wonder they went out of business. šŸ˜†

3

u/asleeepykiwi Sep 04 '26

Looks like Birds of Prey #12 from the New 52 on the far left, so mid-2012 at the earliest I'd say.

4

u/asleeepykiwi Sep 04 '26

Ooh also Frankenstein Agent of S.H.A.D.E. #15 from December 2012 towards the bottom right of the shelf.

2

u/Robbythedee Sep 04 '26

How do you even know that's Ryan Reynolds he had a mask on

1

u/ablslyr Sep 04 '26

I think this is correct. That desolation jones collected edition was released in 2006. Hunter killer #6 as well. Batman 2 face strikes which I have on my Pc was 93-94 but is probably a back-stock.

8

u/TrinityCodex Sep 04 '26

Look, its the blue lantern!

12

u/JazzySweetBeats Sep 04 '26

Funny enough my local comic book shop also has a promo cutout from the 2011 movie that also became an accidental Blue Lantern, presumably for the same reason

5

u/outtakes Sep 04 '26

This is so cool. Ok the outside it'll all be blue, on the inside it'll be vibrant colors

5

u/Longjumping-Solid680 Sep 04 '26

Someone save the Tintin!

u/RunnyPlease Sep 04 '26

Good place to film a post-apocalyptic tv show.

3

u/McMuffinClause Sep 04 '26

Hey, OP. Don't know if you took this pic, but does this happen to be Rodney's in Kent, OH? It could just be a similar looking storefront, but this looks strikingly familiar from my memory.

2

u/bongish Sep 04 '26

I didn’t take the pic but you are right, it is from a comic book store in Kent, OH!

7

u/McMuffinClause Sep 04 '26

Daaaaamn, that's crazy. That's my first comic shop right there! It has always looked like this because the store owner would smoke inside the storefront. It was dirty, disorganized, and the owner was kind of a jerk, but I probably wouldn't love comics like I do now without it. Kinda sad to see what's become of it, but also a very interesting relic

1

u/Da12khawk Sep 05 '26

Why was it abandoned?

1

u/Inevitable-Report335 Sep 06 '26

I knew i recognized this place!

1

u/bennyfuckingprofane Sep 04 '26

I fucking recognized it too!!

2

u/mojomcm Sep 04 '26

Only cyan survived

2

u/Subtlehavok Sep 04 '26

Someone grab me that Hitman comic, and the Beta Ray Bill one too

2

u/Furthestside Sep 04 '26

Grab the ā€œFar Sideā€. At least the sun bleach will hardly have affected it.

2

u/Icy_Pace_1541 Sep 04 '26

So why does blue survive sun bleaching like this? Is it the ink or the color?

2

u/Strange_Exit Sep 04 '26

interesting that they’re all blue. is there some science behind that?

Sad to see :(

1

u/Trixter-Kitten Sep 04 '26

Sucks that they were just left there but it's really interesting how all the printing turned blue. There are a handful of pictures in my house that sat by a window and have turned greenish.

1

u/Hizankdtizank Sep 04 '26

I have that Tintin!

1

u/Emerje Sep 04 '26

One of the few things not entirely bleached at the top.

1

u/HerbertInTheWoods Sep 04 '26

It would be funny if they had a copy of Bleach

1

u/SonofaSpurrier Sep 04 '26

That spinner rack is worth more online than everything else combined

1

u/Happy-Estimate-7855 Sep 04 '26

This feels like a panel out of a comic book. Trippy.

1

u/bearda Sep 04 '26

I've definitely seen gaming store like this with old stock. Dozens of D&D 3 OGL titles that never sold, and never will.

1

u/Aldrige_Lazuras Sep 04 '26

There was a comic shop in my hometown I was always curious to check out but never could because my parents were convinced they were nothing but a front for some drug business. It was a small store front and the comics on display looked EXACTLY like these ones. It’s since closed and there was a drug business happening…except it was in the attic of the bar across the street instead of above the Comic Shop lol

1

u/huggablekoi Sep 04 '26

Is this in Bridgeville PA? I swear I’ve walked past this sad window

1

u/TedTheodoreMcfly Sep 05 '26

I’m surprised nobody even tried to break in and steal the comics before the covers were bleached this badly

1

u/ARustyDream Sep 05 '26

It’s a really interesting time capsule of that moment in comics and offers an opportunity for speculation as to why they just left the product there instead of trying to sell the product in bulk online or other opportunities.

0

u/Super-G1mp Sep 04 '26

Idk I think that This is verging on very interesting.

0

u/Hammon_Rye Sep 04 '26

Is it abandoned or part of some museum display?

It isn't just the covers, its the rust on the metal, the thick layer of dust on the floors that looks like it would show footprints if someone walked in it. And whatever that trash / poop / whatever is on the floor.
