humankind hiccups 😅 The Absolutely Massive Kidney Stone I passed yesterday

Post image

A let's say... interesting thing to witness come out of your body.

Edit to address some FAQs:

I am okay. Honestly I was only in severe pain one day.

Yes it hurt. Mostly when it was moving from the kidney to the bladder

I hydrate well at a minimum of 64 oz of water per day.

I had a full metabolic work up after my first kidney stone and the best the urologist could tell me was it's stress related.

I used a strainer, I didn't reach into the toilet.

Dimensions are roughly 15mm x 5 mm x 4.5mm at the thickest region.

I've passed 41 of the little bastards. My condolences and also MAZEL TOV!

This was my fourth 🙃. Probably twice as big as the other three combined.

I randomly had one in high school and. They thought my appendix had burst until I gave a urine sample and someone notice the tiny dot in it.

you just rode this out at home? I was in pain for a good hour and it was horrendous

I was in severe pain for about 6 hours. Had to cancel my plans to see a movie with friends so I could writhe on a heating pad.

dang go to the ER bro! You got lucky that came out, it managed to find an orientation that worked but eventually one that big won’t.

They just break it apart with a laser. You only earn extra hours of suffering being a hero. It can scar up your kidneys and cause bad infections.

See the trick is you don't know it's that big untill it actually comes out. If it had been worse or gone on longer I would have gone to the ER.

No you can’t ever know. But if there’s severe pain for a few hours, it’s stuck. They say once you’ve had a stone over 15mm (called a Staghorn stone), don’t take chances if it hasn’t moved in a few hours. You’re in the club now.

Before modern medicine, these stones used to kill people (still do in developing countries)

They have you on any kind of preventative like potassium citrate? Do you know what type of stones they were? I switched to a Berkey water filter because the limestone aquifer my city sits on was the main cause for all of mine. That water filter did WONDERS for prevention.

crystal light lemonade is what my doc told me to use after I’d had two surgeries to clean the stones out my kidneys.

Crystal light Lemonade, why?

I think the acid in it helps break down the stones? Double check that tho lol

This. The citric acid breaks down and helps prevent calcium stones from forming. It also ups your water intake that helps dilute the waste as well.

So I drink far more water than lemonade now. But if I want something sweet it’s my go to.

See a nephrologist. A urologist isn’t going to work up WHY you get them. They get paid more the more stones you get lol

Wait till yoy start getting above 1cm. Out of the 4 (major) one sive passed, only one of them eas below 1cm. And that was 9mm.

The others were 13mm, and 2.25cm

Holy shit what

So I'm curious, does passing 41 fucking kidney stones change your pain tolerance/threshold?

2

u/SpockIsMyHomeboy 9d ago

It definitely has changed it for me. My "10" on the pain scale has changed significantly. I can take a lot more pain today than I could 30 years ago.
