humankind hiccups 😅 The Absolutely Massive Kidney Stone I passed yesterday

Post image

A let's say... interesting thing to witness come out of your body.

Edit to address some FAQs:

I am okay. Honestly I was only in severe pain one day.

Yes it hurt. Mostly when it was moving from the kidney to the bladder

I hydrate well at a minimum of 64 oz of water per day.

I had a full metabolic work up after my first kidney stone and the best the urologist could tell me was it's stress related.

I used a strainer, I didn't reach into the toilet.

Dimensions are roughly 15mm x 5 mm x 4.5mm at the thickest region.

Seriously, drink more water people. And dont stay out in hot weather too much either.

It can always be worse. Ive had worse, and i dont want anyone to experience what I went through.

I never drink water and always probably slightly dehydrated, just coffee and sometimes cola but never had a kidney stone.

Just forget it..not going to say.

But ya know, bladder stones used to be the common one. Bladder stones all over the place, Napoleon ben Franklin but then the switch went to kidney stones in modern times. Extra meat and minerals.

Did you know that the original ancient Hippocratic Oath had as one of its oaths "you will not cut for the stone." Which is, even if someone was loudly demanding you to "just cut it out" you didn't and left that to the traveling stone cutting out guys. Because more likely the person would get infected and die or bleed out and would not help the patient overall and also sully your healing reputation.

One of that size and clarification they do an actual surgery. They make an incision into my back, and cut open my kidney to remove it piece by piece.

But ive got a horror story for the first stone I had if you want it?

lol sure I just had an ultrasound that showed two 1cm stones that I'm waiting on my doctor to help me with.

My first stone was 13mm.

I knew i had a stone like a month before i even had an appointment. Once i had the appointment i had intermittent bleeding. I was scheduled for a lithotripsy 3 weeks later.

A lithotripsy is where they put you under anesthesia, and use an ultrasonic vibration device focused on your kidney to break up the stone into smaller pieces so you can pass them naturally.

This procedure didnt take, cause I ended up in the ER the next morning. The stone didnt break apart enough and was causing a blockage.

Due to that blockage, they had to stick a laser up my urethra (for a second procedure) to blast apart the stones, and drag a metal mesh net to collect all the fragments.

All of this led quite a bit of inflammation. So they put a stent from my kidney to my bladder. This lead to a kidney-bladder-urinary tract infection trifecta. I had that stent in me for about 5 weeks.

Now ill get to the horror part. When it came time to get the stent removed, it was a quick office visit. No anesthesia or pain meds. So I lay down on the doctor's table, where he takes this grabber device and snakes it up my urethra all the way through my bladder grabbing the end of the stent. "One, two, three!" and he yanks it out in one move.

Id rather pass 100 stones than deal with that situation again. The way you can feel it stretch your urinary tract and urethra open..... nope! No i do not ever want to feel that again.

lol I had a urethral stricture repair and they had to put a catheter in. very similar removal process as I recall.
