edible engagement 🍭 The hotel I’m staying at supposedly has Minute Maid Orange Soda, which was discontinued in 2005

Thats fucking bullshit
6
u/DL4CK 2d ago
Why would they have a product stocked that hasn’t been produced in over 20 years? They obviously just never got around to changing the signs. At least it’s still an Orange soda.
16
u/MediumAcceptable129 2d ago
The sign says minute maid orange. Thats fraud. This is the worst case of false advertising since they released The Never Ending Story

You gonna sue the hotel for $1 worth of fraud?

u/mvincen95 2d ago edited 2d ago
It’s good in its own right, but I was in it for the nostalgia. My wife did tell me I wasn’t allowed to drink the Minute Maid if it was real though.
5
u/bigfatfurrytexan 2d ago
I drank a soda from the back of the fridge once. It had settled and separated.

Do people pronounce it Fan-ta, or Fawn-ta. I have an on going dispute with someone who uses the latter. No way I say. Its Fan ta !!
31
u/josherman61791 2d ago
The Fanta commercial will never let me forget how it's pronounced.
6
u/Original_Action8858 2d ago
Still sounds like fan-ta, I’ve actually never heard anyone pronounce it fawn-ta yet.
7
u/SoTurnMeIntoATree 2d ago
I think they’re pronouncing it like that due to the Spanish accent tho
7
1
u/mrsdoubleu 2d ago
I thought a Spanish accent would make it more like fawn-ta. Like the sound the a makes in "amigo"
2
9
u/SadMcWorker 2d ago
definitely fan-tuh (or fan-ta i assume you mean the same pronunciation)
11
3
u/N0085K1LL5 2d ago
I've always heard it pronounced fan-tah. Until about a year ago, where ive heard numerous people call it fawn-tah.

This reminds me of when I went to Australia and they called adidas “oddi-dos”
2

2
u/Roomba13 2d ago
Fan-ta, unless I’m singing the jingle… then it’s “buena fawn-ta, don’tchu wanna” and you gotta shake your hips while you do it
2
u/aminervia 2d ago
In spanish the letter a is always pronounced "ah" so it's "fawnta" all over Latin America. In the US I've always heard Fan - ta by English speakers.
2
u/Triquetrums 2d ago edited 2d ago
If it's pronounced ah, how does it turn into aw when they say Fanta? I speak Spanish myself and have never heard a another Spanish speaker call it fawnta.
The fan- part is pronounced pretty much like the word 'fan' in english.
2
u/aminervia 2d ago
No you don't pronounce the W, that's just how the sound is often spelled in english
f - ah (soft a like faun) - n - ta
(This is how I heard it pronounced in Mexico)
versus
f - a (hard a like able) - nta in english
-1
u/Triquetrums 2d ago
To make it less complicated. Just say the word fantastic and omit the -stic part. That's how Spanish speakers say fanta.
Or just watch the ad the other user linked. The ad is in Spanish.
2
u/aminervia 2d ago
... Right, in the ad they're pronouncing it how I was trying to explain it was pronounced
Fahn vs American fan with a hard a
-3
u/Triquetrums 2d ago
Doesn't sound like we say Fanta like faun because the A in faun sounds close to an O. We don't saw fonta, or faunta. We say fanta exactly the way you say Americans say it
2
u/aminervia 2d ago
Go watch the ad somebody posted -- that's the sound I'm trying to express (badly)

https://youtu.be/LQqyDj7RX6Y?is=gupNcbjGhC_Kso2I I still sing this every now and then. When I was a little kid I. Would love it when it came on. Like seeing the Beatles for little me.

I'm glad they have a sense of humor about themselves. I actually respect them quite a bit these days, as a whole. But you won't catch me by the shores of Lake Hepatitis, it's just not my bag. It's just funny watching a group reform itself over time when that group's thing is basically chaos fueled by drugs and corn syrup.
1
u/comprehensivechick 2d ago
it's true, they may be bona fide agents of chaos pouring faygo wherever they go, but the juggalos have gone from being counterculture to mainstream without changing so definitely they get much more respect these days than the FBI gang affiliate days lol
2
u/TheBindingOfMySack 2d ago
hey, Faygo Dreamin' Orange is fantastic. don't sleep on Faygo
1
u/ArbysLunch 2d ago
Faygo is fine if appropriately priced. A whole dollar for a 12oz can seems steep for Faygo when you can get what, a liter for a buck at a dollar store?
3
u/luigi517 2d ago
Travesty. Sunkist or orange crush would obviously be the next best thing. The real question though: were it a circa 2005 minute maid, would you drink it?

I sell orange soda at my food stand. However, it can be any of three different brands depending on what was on sale. I let the customer pick what specific brand if I have more than one brand that day.

All of those button images are, like, from 2005 too. Pretty sure a Diet Coke or Sprite can with that imagery would be a time capsule that’s lost all carbonation.
23
u/UngodlyTemptations 2d ago
You can see what it could look like when you pass those certain overpriced sweets/candy shops. They love to display the actual product in the front window and then never change it for 15 years.
There was one I passed in Amsterdam and it looked like all the contents of all the carbonated drinks had separated. The labels were completely sun-bleached. The Sprite looked like it was devouring itself. Some of the contents must've leeched out somehow, compressing the bottle.

u/AlmostLucy 2d ago
I did! It’s actually a cute story- the first year my sister brought her boyfriend to Thanksgiving, he brought the Jones soda thanksgiving pack. So we all tried little tastes of turkey and gravy soda, green beans, cranberry sauce, etc. Most of them were horrible, but it was an excellent icebreaker. That was almost 20 years ago and he’s still with my sister and they’ve got 2 kids.

10
u/Tatushua 2d ago
Damn I forgot that I used to drink that shit all the time
5
u/j_cucumber12 2d ago
My grandparents had a soda vending machine in their garage with all kinds of stuff including Minute Maid orange. They'd let us pick out what we want and give us a quarter to get it out. I forgot that I got this one often.
2
u/samsonite441446 2d ago
Whyd they have that?
2
u/AlbusDumbbelldore 2d ago
A family friend of ours used to have a Glass Coke bottle vending machine. We would go over to swim in the pool and it was always the most anticipated part to get a glass bottle coke to have with lunch.
1
u/samsonite441446 2d ago
Oh for sure. Id love to have a vending machine. I just think there are maintenance costs and a mschine like that costs.
1
u/j_cucumber12 2d ago
I think it was mostly just for fun. It was probably also a way to limit how much soda the grandkids drank. Can't just open the fridge and take what's there.
14
u/ValouIka 2d ago
Perhaps they still have one can from 2005, so if you're not afraid to drink something utterly disgusting, that would make you vomit, full of chemicals and with an aftertaste of iron, push that dasani button.

u/CelticCynic 2d ago
Doesn't mean they don't have expired soda in their vending machine!
5
u/okayest-commentor 2d ago
Way back in the day 2007-2008ish. I found a machine at my school that would vend the Dr Pepper that would match the label here. Internet search says discontinued in 2005. They were expired, but the machine was actively used it was weird.
After 3 or so old style expired ones it started to dispensed regular updated ones.

No but it might be a thing in England idk 🤷♂️ I think I’ve heard their version of lemonade in general has some fizz to it

I saw a whole debate between Americans and English people on their differences of the meaning of the word “lemonade” lol

a local grocery near me has been selling energy drinks expired in 2020. I contacted the county on them
4
u/LouieMumford 2d ago
They can absolutely do that and it’s not illegal. At least most places. The place I managed for awhile we didn’t even touch those because they’re vendor stocked. I found one that was best buy dated for like two years earlier. I tore the vendor a new one because it’s my store, but we didn’t bother to check them because the health department doesn’t check them. They’re nonperishable.
1
u/Large_Lettuce_4468 2d ago
I told the same store 2 years earlier, so I was pissed to find the same drinks with same expiration date again, pointed it out to them again and told them I told them 2 yrs earlier lol.. this time I emailed county, did what I could do now. too bad because I liked those drinks

I used to frequent a rehearsal space that had a soda machine with multiple “Pepsi” slots. The ones on the bottom were different types of beer.

u/Yoohooistasty 2d ago
Minute Aid Orange Soda was delicious! But when you own two Orange Soda brands it makes sense that Fanta would prevail

Holy crap they bought our old vending machine. Yes we used to have beer in it.
