Bro, that table is for cutting, not molding!

I think you mean penicillium. What organic stuff is it growing on?

80

u/Igotdaruns 1d ago

Propylene Glycol and what ever other organic compound in the biodegradable antitrust fluid.

65

u/Ghost_of_Gumby 1d ago

You should see what antitrust fluid does to a Monopoly board.

7

u/Queso_Grandee 21h ago

Was it approved by the FTC?

2

u/Key_Cook_2016 11h ago

How much time does it take to start yielding a colony?

3

u/dumblamma 1d ago

Is that organic thingie the "O" in OLED stands for?

Here we fucking go, plasma resistant super fungus

Underside is covered in rust

This image reminds me of inside my desk in grade 3. I accidentally broke my penicillin pill and didn't want to be in trouble, so I did the logical thing and smushed it into a corner using half of my glue stick, burying the eveidence. Until this grew all in my desk while we were on Christmas break.

I hope you harvested it and sold it on the streets

2

u/Mother-Attention2600 23h ago

I would sell it to guys who were too embarrassed to go to the doctor about stds.

I spent all day scooping out this monstrosity. Draining it into drums. Cleaning the dross and slurry so it can be refilled with proper concentration of inhibitors.

That is disgusting there's no way I would cut on that.

42

u/Igotdaruns 1d ago

It happened over two days of not cutting.

Is this your table or your employer? What did you do to clean this?

u/Bing_Bong874 1d ago

i hope my metal doesn’t mold

15

u/towerfella 1d ago

That’s really cool.

I bet that it is feeding on spit and sweat and bits of skin that have fallen in

9

u/Deacon-Doe 1d ago

They serve it a sandwich twice a day

\pats moldy gunk on the head\

Who’s a good boiiiii

Total noob question, but coming from a curious biotech student: How?

Like what kind of media/liquid are they growing in, and how is there something in there that allows them to grow? Especially to that degree.

I would assume it is just like a cooland right? Like water to just soak up the superhot material from the plasmacutting. How that would allow mold to grow is beyond what i know.

Oh yeah my first impression was what kind of media has this guy created? Glycol antifreeze as a literal coolant plus plasma is going to give a cornucopia of products.

Edit: OP please tell me that's not automotive antifreeze in the plasma table? That would be very, very bad.

Edit: it's not mold, it's dross and the liquid is something like PlasmaGreen 9010

1

u/madphroggy 9h ago

It's a liquid specifically designed for plasma tables, just looks like automotive coolant

the expensive plasma fluid bills itself as having anti-microbial stuff to avoid this. glad i didn't buy it... bc it really is expensive like over 10 bucks a gallon if i remember correctly.

i just use some sodium carbonate and a little red food coloring in water and i haven't had it grow anything for a couple years now. i drain my water table in between using the machine so it isn't just sitting there like a big evaporation pan. but it still sits stagnant in the plastic tub beneath ... never had a problem. ETA: i forgot the fancy stuff is glycol based too... so it's probably better not to be vaporizing a bunch of it anyway.

A little plasma should clear that right up

3

u/Igotdaruns 1d ago

I guess this could also be some species of Aspergillus

3

u/DetonexBestProduct 19h ago

Bloody hell dude, clean your plasma cutter.

1

u/Igotdaruns 19h ago

I did all day.

1

u/GrinderMonkey 40m ago

Worst fuckin job, but having the CNC plas is worth it.

3

u/Educational-Rule1635 1d ago

Plasma like blood? Or plasma like torch?

10

u/Igotdaruns 22h ago

Well I would hate to walk into a blood plasma clinic and see this table for cutting apart metal with electricity.

5

u/Infamous_Lunchbox 22h ago

"Get on the table" lol

2

u/Voideterminate 22h ago

Darth vader me up, plasma clinic.

3

u/PumpkinOpposite967 17h ago

It's mold. Just say mold. No need to be fancy.

6

u/bartsimpsonwin 16h ago

Actually it's quite a bit more interesting that it's penicillin

-2

u/FilecoinLurker 13h ago

It's probably not. It looks like bacteria actually

$5 days you won’t drink it

1

u/BipedalMcHamburger 15h ago

I'm guessing the plasma makes for good nitrogen fixation?

1

u/madphroggy 9h ago

Man I wouldn't be able to be in the same room with that as I'm allergic to molds in general and penicillin especially. I didn't even know this was a thing, glad I found out now as I've been looking for a used plasma table!

1

u/deaglebingo 20m ago

isn't the whole point of using the expensive plasma fluid to avoid this?

i just use some sodium carbonate and a little red food coloring in water and i haven't had it grow anything for a couple years now. but i drain the table when i'm not using it.
