People filming concerts generally bugs me but I’m fine with this, honestly, go off.

u/Icy_Significance6436 9h ago

People filming people filming...

A fine vintage, sir!

DAT BOI??!!!

5

u/dankhimself 2h ago

Oh shit, waddup!?

5

u/HiZenBergh 8h ago

Yo dawg, heard you like filmception

1

u/Ill_Machine_8599 3h ago

People commenting on people filming people filming…

12

u/TheRealPallando 8h ago

I think they had sunshine, in a bag.

5

u/HiZenBergh 8h ago

I mean , they're useless , but not for long

3

u/YakubianExperiement 1h ago

Really? I appreciate it when people post concert recordings since I can refresh my memory. Though in fairness I'm tall enough to not really be bothered by cameras being held up. I generally will hold mine at neck level if I'm taking pictures since it's still high enough to see the stage without blocking the view of people behind me.

1

u/StendhalSyndrome 5h ago

watch it's a plant from the band because they wanted footage of their concert in 1.4 p

1

u/Bkirbs88 2h ago

The only thing that might top it is a gameboy with a gameboy camera

0

u/Lostmypants69 2h ago

They only do this to try to seem cool and different. Kinda dumb imo

-12

u/p-sherman_ 8h ago

people don't even go back and look at their videos you think this guy is gonna boot up the DS again ? it's simply performative to say look at me i'm different !!

3

u/loosie-loo 7h ago

I actually think the person going to the trouble to do something this weird has an intention or reason behind it, and I’m not so up myself that I presume anything I don’t fully understand is inherently ā€œperformativeā€ because I acknowledge other humans lead their own full, rich lives and may well have knowledge and experiences I do not.

I also don’t really give a shit.

1

u/p-sherman_ 4h ago

> wrote a whole paragraph
> ends it with but i don't give a shit

2

u/The_Flo0r_is_Lava 7h ago

Im willing to put 10k on this person showing everyone they will every meet for the next decade their video, and honestly id watch it. This is intentional amd awesome

1

u/BigLittleSlof 4h ago

Your being downvoted but it's 100% attention seeking. I've seen loads of posts from people at concerts that they recorded on their 3DS. I'm convinced they post it, say omg guys look I'm so random!!! Then never look at it again

2

u/p-sherman_ 4h ago

same with the game boys šŸ™„ they are beating a dead horse at this point

119

u/FusionHype23 9h ago

Yeah....they're filming 2-D in 3D...

13

u/PM_ME_YOUR_GREENERY 8h ago

Underrated joke.

16

u/Worldly_Lunch_1601 2h ago

Can they record in 3d?

11

u/meerkatjie87 2h ago

And in plural

4

u/StickyLavander 2h ago

Yes, and it’s pretty awesome. Especially for the adults who want to film themselves having fun šŸ˜

52

u/HereOnCompanyTime 9h ago

It's a trend at concerts. It was kind of amusing for a while but it's can be really annoying to have it in the way for the people behind them. It looks like this person was mindful of that though since they brought it down after.

7

u/loosie-loo 6h ago

I have seen plenty of phones that are basically as big as a DS so it’s no more inconsiderate than that, tbh. And yeah, I always appreciate when people take a quick video and put it away rather than blocking parts the whole way through. That’s the right way to do it, if you’re gonna.

3

u/Booty_Shakin 4h ago

And then they dont even go back and watch it after they take it, or its just a quick social media post for "look at me and what I did".

2

u/Atalant 4h ago

It has been a ting for a very long time, not. I never seen in person myself, but there is a least 15+ years of DSI/3DS recordings on YT.

12

u/Atalant 4h ago

It is a niche hobby, they are sharing the videos with likeminded enthuatists over the internet, the point of those are not the quality of sound or video, but the experience. I take those peeps over people recording the whole concert for their personal social media accounts on a phone to show how much they are in the moment. I don't get it personally, but it has been a ting since the introduction of DSI.

4

u/Well_Spoken_Mute 3h ago

I don't always film at concerts, but when I do I absolutely never watch any of them and they just consume memory on my phone

1

u/No_Story9579 1h ago

Seems like something you could already do with basic photo editing software on current video formats. Or does it feel more authentic coming from the 3DS itself? I've also seen the group that can turn the 3DS into a drum machine, which is pretty cool.

22

u/KalamariKnight 7h ago

4

u/TheNonCredibleHulk 4h ago

Thank you for that! I need to unearth my 3ds and start contributing!

2

u/No_Move7872 4h ago

Ok, that's kinda cool

47

u/cycker13 9h ago

Holy shit why is the comment section so mad lmaoo

15

u/dumbostratussy 9h ago

fr ppl really need to cheer up and keep the anger and annoyance for real issues lmao

3

u/username_unnamed 8h ago

Like 3 comments out of 16 more people are commenting on it it's nothing

81

u/Double0hobo79 9h ago

Yeah because of the reason you posted it. They dont really want to capture the moment to review it more for the novelty so they can either post it online for attention or to share with their friend "Look! I am unique and recorded this on an outdated inconvenient camera!"

17

u/UnlimitedScarcity 9h ago

You got downvoted but what other reason could there be?

13

u/Double0hobo79 9h ago

I guess because some people view it as cool and 'whimsical' it bothers me none if people want to do it. I truly dont care. But i was simply explaining why they would do it. I cant think of another reason they would.

-2

u/Bright_Tax_6541 9h ago

The 3DS can shoot video in 3D, I don’t think they’re doing it for attention.

10

u/Double0hobo79 9h ago

I'm not saying they cant find value in it but the camera on those things are awful compared to anything easier smaller to film on. Even in 3d from that distance i cant imagine it being good to watch lol

5

u/QuadramaticFormula 8h ago

Some people like the lossy look of toy cameras for aesthetic reasons.

2

u/Double0hobo79 8h ago

Thats true I like retro tech too but holding a device of any kind in my face capturing a concert that i paid to see and experience just seems weird but thats a me problem i know 90 percent of people record that stuff.

I just assumed it would be easier to record on a simpler device to achieve the same type of video. Seems impractical to bring it around... Unless you're playing fire emblem in line to the concert lol

2

u/ToastedCrumpet 6h ago

Have you seen footage of it actually posted though? There’s zero merit to it as it looks bloody awful, the sound is horrific too and it’s now become a fad where 3DSs show up at all sorts of gigs and live events now.

I’m not sure why people who do things for attention get upset when you point that out

iPhones after the 15 Pro can as well (albeit you need 3rd party software to convert it to standard 3D footage as well as a separate device capable of displaying 3D, e.g. a VR headset)

1

u/GiraffeCatZombie 8h ago

The quality is shite, but you can watch it back in 3d.Ā

1

u/Petty_Laws 9h ago

Well, I don't see any other phone out, could it be that they forbids phones at all or maybe just for the last song? I know some artists do that with a shell that can not be opened during the concert.

4

u/AXEMANaustin 8h ago

I've done it because it creates a funny effect on the speakers.

2

u/mrlogan2509 6h ago

Performative gaming pretty much

1

u/duhduhduhhhhya 5h ago

i took pics at a concert on a 3DS once cause i wanted 3DS pics of the concert

-1

u/moosemuffin12 8h ago

It makes it look like a camera from 2001 it’s pretty cool actually. Probably sounds like absolute shit tho

5

u/No_Psychology8158 5h ago

Now THAT is something you would never see everyday compared to 80% of the audience using their phones to record

5

u/this_house_is_magic 1h ago

Death Grips type shenanigans

1

u/yellowwatta 19m ago

The north sentinalese would probably be more adjusted than some of the absolute basement dwellers I saw at their gig I went to

6

u/thenbr1killjoy 7h ago

Yeah lol this has been a thing for a while, I have been to quite a few concerts where people have done this

3

u/ChildoftheApocolypse 8h ago

Considering they cost about as much as a mid professional camera now, best believe you get your money's worth..

14

u/Overall-Abalone3969 9h ago

People in here are miserable, lol. We all get the general annoyance of somebody not enjoying a concert but think of it like this - they paid the same money, maybe more, to enjoy the same concert you paid for. Let them enjoy it however they want.

Maturity isn't accepting everything. It's accepting that things are, and living with that your own way.

2

u/thecuriousostrich 8h ago

This is fairly common actually! Several people filmed this year’s MCR tour like this

2

u/dragonlord798 8h ago

Yeah and if they ever come here to Australia I'm bringing the link 2ds

2

u/Rare_Advantage8517 5h ago

Its a quirky thing do to do. Very performative

4

u/Deep_Helicopter4591 8h ago

A recording device, is a recording device 🤷

1

u/gxnail 8h ago

attention seeking final boss

2

u/NiobiumThorn 4h ago

It captures it in 3D. Honestly, not a ton of consumer 3D cameras.

2

u/AXEMANaustin 8h ago

I did that at Foo Fighters and Iron Maiden, it creates a really funny bass boosted effect through the speakers.

2

u/mark_wooten 8h ago

Up the Irons!

1

u/GleedBarry 5h ago

FUCK TOTTENHAM!!

2

u/Significant_Bear3843 8h ago

Sad when the item to film on get more attention than what's being filmed.

2

u/No_Total_3367 7h ago

I mean yeah, for a moment it's interesting. It's not like for the whole show no one paid attention to the artists.

1

u/hashbrr 6h ago

Right like, you would only do this for this to happen. It’s not a good camera.

4

u/SSBBW_SLAYER 6h ago

Very attention-seeking behavior. It's been a trend for 5+ years now.

3

u/HypoManicCrimeSpree 9h ago

Dude! These people exist and I’ve seen a couple irl. Idk why they do it though

2

u/nighttim 1h ago

It’s performative.

1

u/inotocracy 7h ago

Only real reason I can think of is it can record in 3D. But the output and quality is going to be really poor, so I still don't get it.

1

u/SiLeNZ_ 6h ago

It can record in 3D? Can’t be good quality at all, I’m going to google it, because now I have so many questions.

1

u/Tatsumifanboy 3h ago

Yeah basically you could watch the whole thing in 3D. It's not great tho. Video quality is ass even or 2011's standards and you can only make like 10 minutes, unless he modded it.

1

u/ThisAppHatesFreeSpea 1h ago

I could understand if 360 cameras didn't exist, but they do and they are affordable.

1

u/Icy_Dinner6064 1h ago

3D != 360

1

u/SoTurnMeIntoATree 5h ago

It’s a meme

1

u/stonkerooni 2h ago

There’s a very popular crew called TPDtv on YouTube that post a video every week at different festivals all around the world.. and the lead guy/editor films with one as well and I’m guessing that’s where this stems from

1

u/zweieinseins211 1h ago

It's a meme

0

u/thebugfrombcnrfuji 9h ago

it's funny. I saw it at a gig and it made me laugh. It's like part of the funny weird shit you see at a gig like someone who sneaks in an inflatable banana or something and it gets passed around the crowd and then you see a guy film the show on a Nintendo DS (how does he still have one of those) and then someone passes you a joint in this indoor concert like ok this is something that's happening apparently

1

u/doogiethehead 9h ago

Just a heads up, thats not the Gorillaz, they are cartoons.

1

u/vaguespace_ 8h ago

I was a few rows behind this person during Deltron 3030 and it was really just annoying because of the size of the thing and the fact that they were holding it way above their head.

1

u/Organic_Fortune_4748 7h ago

Its supposed to be meta and funny

1

u/DistributionLife6750 6h ago

Noah Gundersen sings it best in his song, ā€œMagic Trick.ā€

Soft static on the TV screen
Young people on the livestream
I Facetimed a friend of mine, he suggested to me
That watching people watch people is the future of our collective dream
And so I went to sleep

1

u/Apprehensive_Tip9064 6h ago

That’s like seeing a rare sighting of Sasquatch…
You know they exist…

1

u/FrostHasASmallPP 6h ago

I haven’t been to a show in the past ten years without seeing at least five people thinking they’re a riot filming with their 3ds

1

u/AdSudden3941 6h ago

ā€œThey are so craaaaazzyyy.ā€

1

u/Beto_Targaryen 6h ago

I’m excited I get to see them soon

1

u/snowdn 6h ago

Loophole!

1

u/Additional-Local8721 6h ago

We were there too! Great show all around. Even the opening acts were good.

1

u/JM_Artist 6h ago

Wonder if they were a RedVox fan because it happened at one concert and we went from having one a concert to like five..

1

u/notthedoodaa 5h ago

I keep seeing this happening

It's pretty common nowadays. Saw it at Red Vox a month or three ago.

1

u/Historical-Buy8953 5h ago

Yes its a thing to do lately.

1

u/same_same_3121 5h ago

It’s been a trend for years now. It’s not really funny anymore, but people keep doing it

1

u/Neat-Engineering-696 4h ago

Gorillaz concerts really have the most interesting people and things there (speaking from experience)

1

u/Top_Bookkeeper9136 4h ago

Played out quirk chungus behavior that Reddit eats up every time it’s posted

1

u/ArlenRMcDaniel_Photo 4h ago

Run what you brung!!

1

u/cheoti 4h ago

shitty quality is still quality :)

1

u/Negative-Problem8824 3h ago

as somebody who goes to lots of concerts, you'd be surprised to see how often it happens

1

u/hbunk 2h ago

Reminds me of the dude playing Minecraft during the Gizzard song 'Planet B'.

https://www.reddit.com/r/KGATLW/comments/de4442/shoutout_to_the_guy_playing_minecraft_during/

1

u/Which-Attitude9916 2h ago

That's feels right for Gorillaz. I don't like a load of people filming, but oddly ok with this cause of the dedication. Ha

1

u/idontlikeburnttoast 2h ago

https://www.reddit.com/r/that_Poppy/s/McNSv9tsQR

its a pretty common trend with rock or punk artists because the audio sounds like shit and js just crackly 😭 😭

theres a video that went viral years ago of a weezer concert, and the only part of Buddy Holly that you hear is the main guitar riff before it breaks into crackles again

1

u/Specialist-Candle237 2h ago

lol, random! Well, atleast it was the first time it was done. Seen it at 39495 different gigs now

1

u/AzaghaI 1h ago

I thought Gorillaz is just one guy

1

u/MisplacedGoat 1h ago

But that person is capturing 3D while you're still stuck in 2D land šŸ˜†

1

u/ll0l0l0ll 10m ago

Few years ago I saw someone used ipad 2 to record in concert lol

0

u/_pozzy_ 9h ago

Not sure why the negative comments, but why does it matter to yall what others do w/ their time or day? If they wanna record w/ a DS, let em be. This isn't directed at you OP just the other comments that are rude for no reason.

Anyways, I think it's cool using a piece of old technology and finding a use case in the modern world. That recording isn't meant to be on the DS, but it is, and I find that pretty cool.

2

u/SunWukong_72 9h ago

that is pretty on brand I gotta admit

1

u/Visarar_01 9h ago

It's common

1

u/[deleted] 9h ago

[deleted]

1

u/thebugfrombcnrfuji 9h ago

I'll say it. You're a legend and an icon.

2

u/19toofart 8h ago

This shit is so lame lol. The first person to do it, funny. This is the millionth time it’s been done

-9

u/TapeDeckSlick 9h ago

Just somebody with no independent thought of their own following a stupid Internet trend to seem cool.

2

u/AraDreadnought 8h ago

They’ll type ā€˜3DS concert’ into the Reddit search bar after the gig, praying that a stranger has posted a video of them being all cool. They got the idea from a video they saw on Reddit.

0

u/Tatsumifanboy 3h ago

OOOOOR

Dude just wanted to record with a 3DS. Let them be ffs. It ain't that big of a deal

1

u/AraDreadnought 3h ago

I’m not saying the guy didn’t want to do that šŸ˜… On the contrary, I agree, you’re right, it’s not a big deal

1

u/Tatsumifanboy 2h ago

Omg I replied to you... I'm so sorry haha, had quite a rough night, Imma stay on YT until the coffee hits now x)

-1

u/AdPlayful1328 8h ago

There is a Gorillaz autism link. My nephew is obsessed. Had to check if this is the show he is seeing cause I thought ghat was him.

0

u/Southern_Painting397 5h ago

Larp Larp Larp

Chuddy Chuddy go away Larp again another day

0

u/hotfiremixtape98 3h ago

I see it at almost every single concert I go to. There's at LEAST one. It's so preformative.

0

u/PTSD1983 2h ago

Yes, we still exist! I filmed a Foo Fighters gig on mine šŸ˜‚

-15

u/shoegazeweedbed 9h ago edited 9h ago

Yes, people are obnoxious tryhards who think having a years long crush on a lump of plastic makes them special

Low taste nostalgia bros would be dragging Dreamcasts to concerts and looking for wall outlets if VMUs recorded video

4

u/dsardella18 9h ago

I mean, the point of the vmu is that you don't need an outlet to use it

5

u/thebugfrombcnrfuji 8h ago

yh and that would be funny too. Bringing your Dreamcast to film a concert is a funny bit. As is bringing your Nintendo ds.
