Today we're excited to showcase Brisbane, submitted by u/Zaneinthefastlane

Brisbane, aka Brisket, is a 15mo very athletic mini with a nice off button and a goofy personality.

He absolutely lives for his frisbee and his agility lessons where he barrels though the courses fearlessly. We will soon be joining a Flyball club as well!

His favorite food is whatever is on his parent's plate...and cheese. His favorite toy is Frisbee!

He recently learned to work the door handles and open doors so there is nowhere to hide. He is also the first dog in 20 years to sleep in our bed, thanks to his sheer stubbornness and inability to take no for an answer.

Big thanks again to their pet parent for submitting them! Brisbane is our featured Mini Aussie of the week representing our sub.

Tips for house guest barking and reactivity w mini Aussie

Looking for tips for house guest barking / reactivity with my mini Aussie!

My girl is very good with humans at dog daycare, the vet, when I have a friend with me and we go for a walk or a car ride, but she struggles when people come over. I don’t have people over very often but when I do the greeting is a huge ordeal. I am working with a trainer right now to have her stay on her bed while people come through the front door and once they sit down at the kitchen table she can come off. She seems to settle once people are seated but if they sit on the living room couch she tends to jump up on peoples faces out of excitement and anxiety which I want to avoid. I’m having some girls over for pumpkin carving next week - she was ok last year when they came over but the greetings are always a struggle. What’s the best way to go about this? Should I have my first guest let me know when they arrive and I have her outside on a leash and we follow her inside my house? Or crate her til everyone is here and then let her out?- I’m afraid that this will cause her to lose it once she is released out of her crate. Thank you! Here’s my girl she is 2 and her name is Vega!

Seeking Advice Skin Irritation help

My little lady has been chewing the same spot on her rump for months. It got infected once and she was on antibiotics and antibiotic cream. It got better and then she started again. It feels scaly and dry and shes chewed all the fur off. Her vet said it was a hot spot. Anything I can do to get her some relief? She’s in the cone of shame right now and I’m afraid to take it off because she might chew again.

This little goofball is Helly.

She’ll be 2 in January, she’s almost 12lbs, and if you couldn’t tell from this picture, she enjoys life with every single fiber of her being.

One of her favorite treats is a post-walk ice cube, which sends her into fits of psychotic joy :)

Kaia is 5 months old and one of the derpiest pups I’ve seen. But she’s super cuddly and sweet, so that makes up for it.

Questions before adopting

Are Aussies more likely to get along with other dogs than not? I currently have an acd/chihuahua mix. Best dog ever! Well trained, 3.5 years, and he is my service-alert dog. A big part of our life is walking to our local dog park several nights a week - social, dog pack, etc. One of his bffs is a mini aussie. She has a lot of anxiety, herding, and cannot be around big dogs. The owner leaves if big dogs show up. So....I've been looking for a sibling for my boy FOR MONTHS. Anything 35lbs or less, up to 5 or 6 years. Two days ago, my neighbor who works in a vet clinic brought home a foster mini aussie that just had surgery - injury by another dog. It's only 7 weeks old, and i immediatelysaid I'dtake it after it's well. In the last video, it did a looooong growl and snapped at her dog (standard aussie) who was sniffing it. She said it growled earlier when it was eating and her dog walked past. Odd for a puppy so young, but my hesitation- is this aussie nature? Do you think it could get over the attack and enjoy the dog park? I would hate to disrupt my boy's happy, content life bringing in a dog that can't go to the park. Also...my boy loves every dog, but he can be territorial over food. I would work on this if we get a 2nd pup, but if they are both resource guarders...thanks

She is around 21 lbs! I keep track of her growth chart and she’s trending toward 30-35 lbs. Just as smart as they say; she knows somewhere around 12-15 commands. Only for treats tho 🙄

Call the vet! Poor pup has been around dumb horses for too long!

Actually she seems to like to have her paws on something when she is sleeping.

Hello! Newer dog owner here and in the past few days we’ve noticed our puppy keeps blowing air out of his nose. It doesn’t look like anything is stuck in his nose and the seasons are changing so I’m wondering if it’s maybe allergies? Just wondering if anyone else has seen there dog do this, and if so what was the cause? Thanks!

Seeking Advice Whining for attention

Any tips to deal with high pitched whining for attention?

My mini is a great dog, and doesn't have separation anxiety when we leave the house. However, when I'm home, he will follow me around and whine until I give him direct attention.

If I give him a bone, he will hold the bone and look at me and whine.

For the most part I just give in. This includes moving from the couch to the bed to read because he can't fit on the couch next to me.

However, sometimes I need to do an hour of work. I'll walk him first, give him some attention, then get started. At least 50% of the time, he whines. He will whine for the whole hour if I ignore him. If I close the door, he whines at the door. If I give him a treat puzzle, he ignores it. If I put him outside, he bark-whines. He doesn't like lick mats.

I'm the only human he does this with! My attention is not that exciting!

Any tricks to decrease attention seeking in the form of a very high pitched whine?

I'll take advice or commiseration!

Behold my Aussie From shelter to happy home

Mocha was taken to the shelter due to other dogs in the previous owners home being mean to her (That’s the story we got).. We’ve had her a little over a month and this girl has brought nothing but joy and laughter into our home. So loving and so funny. Shes 8 months old.

Her previous owners clearly loved her. We are so lucky to have a loving fur rocket like her.

Tomorrow she goes back to the vet for her 2nd flu vaccine so she can go to group play. She loves other dogs but she’s our only one. So she needs that play time. She also goes to the vets office for grooming next week (we have a really awesome vet clinic that has all the stuff in one place! Plus my sister works there and I get her discount 😅.. All that putting up with my sister has paid off)
