Politics Anyone else seeing all these posts claiming Amendment 6 is socialism?

I keep seeing posts claiming Amendment 6 is socialism or part of a plan for Democrats to take over Missouri. As much as I’d love to see Democrats take over Missouri, I think most people know that’s a pretty bizarre take.

There is a video being shared from Heather Overstreet. In her post, she claims a national organization based in Massachusetts partnered with Missouri groups to create Amendment 6, suggesting it wasn’t really created by Missourians. She also warns about Missouri falling to Democrats and ends by saying “NO on socialism.”

I got curious about Heather’s background, and what I found was pretty interesting considering her position on this.

As the majority already know, Missouri voters approved Proposition A in 2024, including minimum-wage increases and paid sick leave. In January 2025, Heather Overstreet registered in support of HB 546, which sought to exempt some businesses from parts of Proposition A. She also discussed the law’s costs for her dog-training and boarding business in a Missouri Independent interview.

HB 546 was later folded into HB 567, which repealed the voter-approved paid-sick-leave requirement and future automatic minimum-wage adjustments. That repeal is now cited by Amendment 6 supporters as an example of why lawmakers should face stricter limits when changing laws approved by voters.
I’m not saying Overstreet was personally responsible for the repeal. But given her support for legislation changing a voter-approved law, it seems relevant that she is now portraying Amendment 6 as socialism.

And the 80% requirement is being misrepresented, too. Amendment 6 would not create socialism, transfer private businesses to government control, or put Missouri under the authority of some secret socialist committee in Jefferson City. It would simply establish a higher threshold for lawmakers attempting to change laws that voters approved directly.

I know most of you will recognize that her take is intentionally misleading and wild, but I thought I’d bring some attention to Heather since people are falling for it. I’m starting to see these claims consistently on my local political group discussion page, which is unfortunately heavily MAGA.

Politics 3 things about these signs

Post image
1.3k Upvotes

Ok 3 things for all these signs:

It's already illegal so you're not "banning" anything
They're literally taking individual freedom away from women by scaring you
They are point-blank trying to overturn the will of the people from the last election. Again.

To recap: The Missouri GOP is lying, treading on you, and overturning past elections.

Voting for Local Offices in Clay County

It’s almost time to go the the ballot. Every voting season I try to figure out the views of local commissioners etc running for office, and all that’s available is one paragraph written answers in the local paper where they all say the same thing.

I’m trying to identify and avoid the MAGA candidates hiding in plain sight.

In some instances (Justus) I’ve got a good feeling because they have their signs up in all the grassy areas of rich commercial real estate properties. But not in any local normal people’s yards.

Can anyone help me with identifying the reasonable candidates for local office in Clay County?

Marty Jacobs is definitely a wonderful rep. He is such a good man in general and has taken his responsibilities as a rep so seriously since being elected two years ago. But he’s a state rep, I’m asking more about local.

Thank you!

Politics Judges to be retained questions

Got my sample ballot in the mail a few days ago. Is there same way to check the records of the “judges to be retained?”

Ballotpedia had very little information. Otherwise I’m only checking based on who appointed them?

Is there a good way to research this?
Thank you!

Politics After overwhelming losses of Amendments 4 and 5 in August and the current shady Amendments coming up for vote in a few weeks, is there any way Kehoe gets re-elected?

The no sales tax went down in a ball of fire in August, he's trying to overturn something that we all voted against already, trying to take away Missouri voting rights. I don't see him having a strong backing for re-election.

Amendment 3

Let's not forget the real reason amendment 3 is on the ballot again. When Bailey was our AG he argued against the abortion pill mifepristone because it makes it easier for teen girls to have abortions. More teen girls having abortions means less political representation for the Republican party.

*Missouri’s attorney general has renewed a push to restrict access to the abortion pill mifepristone, arguing in a lawsuit filed this month that its availability hurt the state by decreasing teenage pregnancy.

The revised lawsuit was filed by Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey, alongside GOP attorneys general in Kansas and Idaho. It asks a judge in Texas to order the Federal Drug Administration to reinstate restrictions on mifepristone, one of two medications prescribed to induce chemical abortions.

The trio of attorneys general were forced to refile the litigation after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the original lawsuit after concluding the original plaintiffs — a group of anti-abortion doctors and medical organizations — did not have standing to sue because they couldn’t show they had been harmed.

In making the case that the states have standing this time, the attorneys general contend access to mifepristone has lowered “birth rates for teenaged mothers,” arguing it contributes to causing a population loss for the states along with “diminishment of political representation and loss of federal funds.”

“Younger women are more likely to navigate online abortion finders or websites ordering mail-order medication to self-manage abortions,” the filing argues.

Missouri’s teen pregnancy birth rate has steadily declined over the past several years, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, though it still remains among the highest in the country.*

Politics After FBI exit, ex-Missouri AG Andrew Bailey forms anti-abortion group with Hawley ties

Fresh off his exit as co-deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, former Attorney General Andrew Bailey is wading back into Missouri politics.

Bailey, who left the FBI last month, filed paperwork this week to launch a political action committee supporting a proposed abortion ban on the Nov. 3 ballot. The measure, called Amendment 3, would strike down a 2024 vote that legalized abortion and reinstate a near-total ban.

The new group is also affiliated with U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley. Here's a free gift link to The Kansas City Star's coverage: https://www.kansascity.com/news/politics-government/article317650935.html?giftCode=fdb907df5bf8bf263de7428c7ab451bd6cba8b068b3fe6531d8bbb0520355804

Ask Missouri Searching for a yearbook…

Hey everyone! I want to start this out by saying- really unusual request here.

My dad was born and raised in Missouri, and is alumni of Richmond High School, Home of the Spartans. He graduated in 1977 and quickly left the state to join the military. A lot of his personal items he had at this time that were left at home have been lost to time for some familial reasons, this includes his senior yearbook.

To save you from the overly personal sentiments while still explaining: My dad is not sentimental about objects at ALL. But he brings this yearbook up almost every time we talk these days. We have both looked online, and I have personally contacted the school, the local library, the city council, numerous other alumni, all to no avail. I even asked the school if they had plans to digitize the copy, but they do not.

All of this backstory for the one question I have:
Does ANYONE know where I can find a copy, digital or physical, of an Echo edition 1977 Richmond High School yearbook? I’m honestly willing to pay a small fortune at this point.

Thanks to anyone who took the time to read and offer suggestions.

Information Sold car in Florida

For starters, I'm in the Army stationed in Hawaii. This year me and my wife moved here from Florida. We had to sell one car since the army only pays to ship one. So we sold our second car. It was titled and registered under her name only. I was busy with other things (the army has a lot of paperwork to do when it comes to moving) so I was not at all involved in the selling of that car. I thought she had it covered. She sold it but didnt take the plates off. The guy told her he would go to the Florida DMV right after and get the paperwork sorted out. Fast forward to today, we get a bridge toll recipet to her parents house for that car, in Florida. The guy is still driving it with her plates! So shes freaked out about it and im not sure what to do. I know I can Inform missiouri and let them know I sold it but how long does that actually take through mail or online? Could my parents do it for me since they live in missiouri? Is there a time frame I have to complete it in so many days after?

Politics White Christian Nationalist Control Missouri Talk Radio AM/FM, The Lies Influence Voters, Cutting That Power Is One Step to Reclaiming Our Democracy

Long story short: Preserve democracy by pulling our money from businesses that fund White Supremacists Christian Nationalists companies broadcasting lies to end Missouri's separation of church and state.

The main way to restore sanity and democracy in the Missouri and the US is to pull the plug on AM and FM White Christian Nationalist talk radio that reaches all areas of our state. It gets into the areas even without affordable satellite and internet connection. Next we provide space and basic necessities for free the hearts and minds of people trapped in their pews dependent on the cult's charity to remain in the good graces so they won't be shunned from small town jobs and social events. Greed and cult peer pressure is why Missouri's GOP keep cutting our social safety nets. They use the excuse of "immigrants" "welfare queens" "persons faking disabilities" "lazy poor" to further culture wars and then misuse our taxes for the richest class. They say people of other faiths are demonic yet they are protecting a criminal in the White House and the Epstein class. They are promoting the destruction of our State and National constution again and again by supporting the same State Government that has been in power for twenty years or so that keeps ingnoring Missouri Citizens legal petitions and passed ballot measures. Increased wages, expanded healthcare, body autonomy, accountability for lobbyist money, fair maps. On and on and on.

We are empowered.

Here are some ideas for ending White Christian Nationalist talk radio.

Media and Broadcasting Accountability

***Empowered Missourians participated in the comments. One poster added:

Bring back the Fairness Doctrine. "fairness doctrine, U.S. communications policy (1949–87) formulated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that required licensed radio and television broadcasters to present fair and balanced coverage of controversial issues of interest to their communities." (Encyclopedia Britannica)***

• Monitor and Report Content: Document and report broadcasts that cross legal lines into incitement to violence, hate speech, or harassment. Write down the station call letters. Location and phone number. Website. The program, date and time it aired. 1. Notify the public and let them know who the advertisers are so they will hold advertisers accountable. 2. Optional: Report to the appropriate broadcast regulators (such as the Federal Communications Commission [FCC] for public airwaves) or platform hosts.

• Support Counter-Narratives: Promote media literacy and amplify alternative voices—including mainstream, progressive, and historically Black or multi-ethnic Christian traditions—that challenge the theological and political claims of Christian nationalism. Use these alternatives. Repost and quote these alternatives. Sponsor and donate to these alternatives. Other media is NPR, Democracy Now! you can find others.

• Expose Funding and Sponsoring Networks: Track and publicize the financial backers, advertisers, or syndication networks supporting specific talk radio programs to encourage public accountability.

Spreading memes, sound bites and videos feels good to share and gives us a burst like we are doing something and spreading awareness.

Ending the cycle of hate brings results. This is the first step. Let's bridge the rural urban divide. There are toxic radio stations in urban and rural areas. Cut off funding to the major advertisers and the little stations will dry up. They can not survive on mom and pop ad dollars. It is more propaganda to keep Missourians fighting each other instead of uniting to kick the authoritarians out.

Additional information:

The Bott Radio Network (BRN) is an American Christian radio network headquartered in Overland Park, Kansas. Established in 1962 by Dick Bott, the network specializes in a "Christian Talk and Teaching" format, broadcasting a curated schedule of evangelical programming across more than 130 stations in 16 states. The network's reach extends through the Midwest and into parts of the South and West, complemented by digital streaming and satellite distribution.

The Bott Radio Network (BRN) is a commercial-free Christian talk and teaching radio network founded in Kansas City, Missouri. While the network primarily describes its programming as "Quality Bible Teaching, Christian News and Information", critics and media analysts characterize its role and commentary as part of a broader conservative and right-wing media landscape. [1, 2, 3]

Overview of Bott Radio Network in Missouri

  • History: Founded in 1962 by Dick and Shirley Bott when they purchased a struggling Kansas City station and flipped it to Christian programming as KCCV (Kansas City's Christian Voice). [1, 2]
  • Footprint: Expansive coverage across Missouri (including St. Louis, Kansas City, Columbia, Jefferson City, and regional FM/AM signals like Sedalia, Warrensburg, and Cape Girardeau) through over 130 stations nationwide. [1, 2]
  • Core Programming: Features nationally syndicated conservative evangelical speakers and public affairs commentators (such as James Dobson, Tony Perkins of Family Research Council, David Barton of WallBuilders, Robert Jeffress, and Jay Sekulow) alongside traditional Bible teachers. [1, 2]

Critiques and Public Perception

  • Political & Social Messaging: Media observers and critics, such as analyses in national publications, place BRN within an ecosystem of conservative Christian and right-wing broadcast outlets that shape political mobilization, voter alignment, and social stances on issues like abortion, elections, and cultural values in Missouri. [1, 2, 3]
  • Content and Editorial Control: The network maintains strict internal standards over its broadcasted speakers. For example, BRN has historically cut off or dropped syndicated programs when hosts diverged from its theological or social guidelines—such as dropping Hank Hanegraaff or interrupting a broadcast featuring speaker Mark Driscoll over explicit content. [1, 2]
  • Stance on Public Policy: BRN regularly features special programming and interviews tied to Missouri legislation and ballot measures (such as organizing opposition to pro-choice constitutional amendments like Amendment 3) from a self-described "pro-family" and "pro-life" perspective. [1]

Long story short: Preserve democracy by pulling our money from businesses that fund White Supremacists Christian Nationalists companies broadcasting lies to end the separation of church and state.

I said White Christian Nationalism. If you heard every church, that is on you. There are people who follow the word of Jesus and then there are White Christian Nationalists destroying the separation of Church and State for authoritarian control based on racism, sexism, and greed. Those are the people controlling MO who are ignoring your legal citizen petition initiatives ballot votes. Those are the MO Attorney Generals who became Senators and the other Representatives who went to DC to do the same thing to end our civil and human rights.

Disscussion Strange Lights at Lake of the Ozarks

I was at the Lake of the Ozarks with some friends over Labor Day weekend last month. We frequently take the boat out at night but this time we saw something unusual. I keep thinking about it so I'm turning to Reddit in the hopes of finding some answers.

We were on the Little Niangua Arm, facing north-west towards Jackson Hollow. Over the hills, above the lake we saw a faint light moving slowly through the sky at an angle before fading after 5-10 seconds. It resembled a small plane taking off. This wouldn't seem unusual except it was followed immediately by another light - same brightness, same angle, same 5-10 seconds before fading. It caught our attention so we watched for 10-15 minutes - these lights continued in succession the entire time without stopping. Always starting in the same spot and fading out around the same spot. Sometimes two were visible at the same time but usually we'd see one start quickly after the previous one faded. We saw dozens of them over the few minutes we were watching. Eventually we got bored, shrugged and kept cruising.

We came back the next night - same thing, as if it had never stopped. Tough to say exactly what time we saw these lights - probably in the 11pm-1am range both nights. We tried taking photos/videos but the lights were too faint to show up.

We guessed everything from fireworks to drones to a spotlight. It did not resemble any spotlight I've seen and I can't imagine why someone would run one so late. There are no commercial buildings in that area, just a few homes. There were no clouds that weekend, the sky was clear.

It was too regular and long lasting to be fireworks. Maybe it was a series of drones but if so - what the heck were they doing? I've seen the star link satellites launching (which also blew my mind but was quickly explained) - these lights did not resemble those at all. We thought about Ft Leonard Wood but it's far away in the other direction.

So, r/missouri - can anyone shed some light on these lights??
