| Discussion How hard could MLB players throw without moving their feet?

So I play for this men's slowpitch team and one of the players is a baseball coach. He taught me this drill to improve arm strength. It would be stand with both feet shoulder width apart and both toes pointing forwards straight. Then throw the ball as hard as you can on a line, while keeping both feet planted. This drill is meant to teach you the proper upper body mechanics.

Now if MLB players threw from this position, what would their velocity be? Just from upper body mechanics alone?

| Discussion Is Baker's 4-seamer velocity going to be a problem for the Rays?

Post image

Saw a post earlier about Bryan Baker's fastball velocity and want to check it out. Is this a potential issue, or is it normal? Is it possible he was taking something off of the four-seamer last night and pitching to contact with a solid lead, knowing he would likely have to pitch again soon? I am just learning and would like it if those with more knowledge and experience weighed in on this.

I am a lifelong Dodger fan and a fan of baseball, especially for those who made an impact off the field and Bob Uecker made a significant impact to be the voice of the brewers and the voice of the Cleveland Indians in the cinematic masterpiece comedy “Major League.” That being said if it is the Brewers vs Guardians can it be called the Bob Uecker World Series???

| Discussion Did the Brewers just change the style of baseball for the next decade?

Every so often there are tweaks to the game that become value adds to teams. In the 80s team started running highlighted by the Cardinals in 82 and led by Ricky Henderson, then we started Tony LaRussa with the Cardinals shortening the game by going to the bullpen early followed by PED (the long ball) and analytics took over. In all this even with bigger bags the stolen base has given way to home runs but Milwaukee has brought back the threat of a stolen base. It was so apparent and effective vs the Dodgers style. Do teams start shifting to this model since it is a cheaper ball player than a long ball hitter?

| Analysis Junior Caminero hit a ball that had an xBA of 1.000 for an out.

110 MPH, 29 degrees, 410 feet. While it was the deepest part of the ballpark, this exit velocity and launch angle resulted in a home run in all prior 82 instances. This is also the shortest travelled distance for a batted ball with this metric for balls hit to dead center (not pull-center or opp-center). Normally when a ball is hit dead center, the average distance it travels is significantly longer. Yet somehow this stayed in the park and to make matters worse, found a glove.

| Statistics What team has turned the most Double-Plays?

Sorry this is really frustrating me.. but how do I find the team defense that made the most double plays? Is it a pitching stat, a fielding stat?

All Google responses is individuals GitDP, or feilder initiating the DP.

But I really want to know the team that has the best odds of getting a runner on 1st out via DP... Like the Defensive team that gives up hit/walks but ends up making the DoublePlay the most.

Or the hitting team that grounds into the least DoublePlays when the opportunity is available with runner on 1st??

| Opinion Here is a fix if you have issues trying to watch tonight’s MLB playoff game on HBO Max through Amazon Prime

Having issues trying to watch tonight’s MLB playoff game on HBO Max through Amazon Prime?

Here’s what worked for me:

Open the HBO Max app directly. If you’re using an Amazon Fire Stick, download and open the separate HBO Max app rather than watching through Prime Video.

Select Sign In. If prompted to connect your subscription, choose the option to connect your provider.
Select Prime Video as your provider. Sign in with the same Amazon account you used to purchase HBO Max through Prime Video Channels.
Link your accounts. Follow the instructions to connect your existing Amazon subscription to HBO Max. You may need to complete this on your phone using a QR code or activation code displayed on your television and a few codes sent to your email.

Return to the HBO Max app.

Once connected, it’s right on the home page!

| Discussion 400 Home Runs Hall of Fame Question

When talking counting stats, 500 home runs is the benchmark for automatic hall of fame inclusion. However, until Dave Kingman, every player that hit 400 home runs was inducted into the Hall, so clearly 400 was the benchmark. That said, the easiest way not to get into the Hall, other than being linked to steroids or gambling on baseball, is to be a massive terd to sports writers, and Kingman was the king (pun intended) of that. Since then, I count eight eligible non steroid players that hit 400 home runs since Kingman retired that are not in the Hall. Should they be pissed at Kingman for ruining their automatic induction?

| Analysis Small ball Brewers? Not so much.

I thought this, from Joe Sheehan's newsletter (which is routinely terrific) this morning, was interesting and matched up with my impressions during the series:

There are going to be people who really, really want the Brewers’ success to be about smallball and contact and running the bases and defense. The Brewers do play excellent defense and they run the bases pretty well and they do use one-run strategies. The key to their offense, though, is patience, and in this series, they leaned into the Three True Outcomes. They combined for 70 home runs, walks, and strikeouts for a TTO% of 47%. Adam Dunn’s career TTO mark is 49%. They swung at just 45% of the pitches they saw, slightly above their league-leading 44% mark during the season. The 2026 Brewers have a lot more in common with the 1990s Yankees than they do the 2010s Royals.

| Discussion Do College Baseball stats matter when it comes to MLB drafts?

In the NBA, many scouts will look at college basketball stats before drafting an NBA player. We hear all these college basketball stats. What about in the MLB? Why don't we see college baseball stats displayed as often as college basketball stats?

| Discussion Does the NHL really have the best AND hardest playoff format? What if MLB made all playoff series best of 7?

Post image

NHL has 32 teams and 16 playoff teams. MLB has 30 teams and 12 playoff teams. NHL to win it all you have to go through a gauntlet.

If MLB reduced the season length by a bit, increased to 16 teams in the playoffs, no “byes” and made every series best of 7 would MLB playoffs be more exciting?

| Discussion With the Dodgers eliminated, we’ll either have a first time World Series winner or a team that hasn’t won since 1948 (longest active WS title drought)

The Yankees (98-00) remain the only MLB team in the past 52 years to three peat (A’s did it from 1972-74).

As a Yanks fan, I’m definitely rooting for the Brewers, but I also wouldn’t mind seeing either AL team win it all. The Rays have made it twice in my lifetime, and even though they’ve caused me immense heartbreak over the years, I’ve always respected them. As for the Guardians, their 2016 loss was sad to see even if I was rooting for Chicago (like anyone else not from Cleveland), and it would be really cool to see the longest WS title drought erased. It’s the second longest championship drought in the Big 4, behind only the Arizona Cardinals (by one year).

I’m seeing a decent amount of people saying that LA threw the series so the MLB will keep not having a salary cap. I don’t even know if it’s Dodger fans saying this because then you’re actively admitting your team is betraying the most sacred part of sports - ie not to cheat/throw games. What’s the best evidence that dispels this myth? I know it’s not even worth engaging with, but it’s super annoying to see lol.
