Media New Image of Robert Pattinson in 'Dune: Part Three'

the lack of brows is doing more work than any prosthetic could, brows are basically how your brain reads an expression so without them he just looks subtly wrong in a way you can't place. cheapest uncanny effect in the business

So kind of the opposite of the mentats in Lynch Dune

Same thing with Grima Wormtongue. The shaved eyebrows are essential to making him look like a snake

Which is why she's always looked weird. People just don't recognize it until you point it out to them.

Arnie in Terminator after he has his eyebrows burned off also immediately looks way more like a creepy robot. It's a handy trick!

Helps that he really got the robot movement down. Eyes go to where he's focusing then the head follows then the body.
But yeah, the decomposition of the Terminator in the first is such an important part of the terror. Bit by bit revealing the robot that doesn't care about anything else - even its own survival - if it's able to kill Sarah Connor.
God I wish anything in the Terminator franchise approached the heights of those first two movies.

terminator 2 was so good. Robert Patrick was amazing and I love the fact that he outran the motorcycle in the first takes lol

u/thelivinlegend 22h ago
He was always my favorite part of the movie. Especially the kitchen scene, because it kind of doesn’t make sense if you think of the T-1000 as an unrelenting killing machine focused only on its target.
Yes, Arnold explained that replacing the foster parents was its next best option for finding John, but logically it would know that Arnold knew that and wouldn’t let John go home, so it had to know it was a slim chance.
I can accept that it was logically the best option, but going that direction, why not kill both of them and take their shape as needed? It’s not like they’d need to be in the same room that day, and leaving the husband alive introduces an element of unpredictability and chance of discovery, however small. By doing that, it is committed to keeping up the disguise all day for no good reason.
And it was doing a pretty decent job. We don’t know what it did all day, but when we tune in it was in the process of preparing dinner, and seemed to know what it was doing. It could have made any number of excuses to not take it that far, so it chose to do that. But how did it even know how to cook? Doesn’t seem like something a terminator would be programmed to do. Maybe it had a database of skills for various roles, but it seems like it would be better suited to temporary forms only long enough to kill its target.
And the way it must have interacted with the husband all day was remarkable. Yes, it eventually killed him when it confirmed John would not come home so the disguise wasn’t necessary anymore, but when was it necessary? It only became aggressive when he started drinking milk from the carton.
I think it is canon that the T-1000 models were so independent that even Skynet didn’t like having too many of them around because they were hard to control. It’s not impossible that this one had spent some time studying human behavior and wanted to try different things.
So taking all that into consideration, my head canon when it saw the opportunity to cosplay as a housewife and took it. It had a nice break from work where it did all kinds of human things, leading up to a nice dinner. But it was all ruined when John called, so it was understandably frustrated that it spent all that time cooking dinner and nobody gets to enjoy it, and now that ungrateful Todd just comes in and starts drinking milk from the carton? No sir, not in T-1000’s kitchen.
Anyway, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

Terminator 3 should have taken place in the Skynet future and ended with Kyle Reese getting sent back to 1984.

u/YesImKeithHernandez 1d ago
I think if Salvation were any good maybe that happens. There's been so much mismanagement of the franchise.

John Pinette said it best, “When you have no eyebrows, people don’t know what’s wrong. But they’re pretty sure something ain’t right”
→ More replies (1)4
u/Positive_Mud952 18h ago
That’s very odd. If someone has no eyebrows, that’s the _first_ thing I see, before even a missing front tooth. Maybe a bleeding cut on the face would get my attention more, but there’s absolutely no mystery or uncanny valley thing going on, it’s “why are you Powder?”

Robert Pattinson fits right into Villeneuve's weird aesthetic, even if it looks wild at first glance.
87
u/bolerobell 1d ago
I find it interesting that both Chris Nolan and Denis Villenuve make Robert Pattinson look sorta weird and a little ugly in both their movies this year.
He didn’t even truly look ugly in The Lighthouse.
73
u/Anung_Un_Rama200 1d ago
It's weird, but Pattinson looks more handsome more haggard and messy he is to me. Pattinson in mustache, face full of grime in Lighthouse? Amazing. Pattinson in the Batman, taking mask off with the make up, not looking like he has slept in weeks? Amazing.

Even though Slow Horses is a bit too formulaic, I'm so glad that Gary Oldman was cast as Jackson Lamb and I can't imagine a single actor who could've embodied and elevated the character to the degree that he has.

Ain't no way they'd hang out alone on the ship, everyone hates edric and thinks he's a loser. They just invite him because he keeps them safe from watchful eyes. Like that one friend who sucked but his parents were never home so you could smoke weed in his basement

Pat-bat has really risen as a solid actor in my eyes. I’m really glad he was able to over come just being “the twilight guy”.
Mickey 17 is a solid flick and he was so enjoyable in it, highly recommend. His run as Batman was really good. High Life is another solid pick.
And I realize he had a film list prior to Twilight, but it’s not easy to stop being “the boy on the boat”.

It’s a masterpiece. Once of the top 5 best movies of the 2010’s. The script is so tight, so much room for interpretation and it’s executed to perfection.
Evers hasn’t made it back to the same highs. Werwulf looks fine but I hope he can do more like the Lighthouse. More concept drive work.

In the novel they're described As human-sized with fish fins and webbed hands and feet. Basically like the creature in Shape of the Water, so it's probably Edric
14
u/SigismundsChair 1d ago
Guild navigators as massive slug things originated in the 1980s movie. In the original Dune book there is a navigator in the palace at the end of the book who Paul identifies by his blue in blue eyes but is not noted to otherwise be abnormal. The guild envoy in one of the sequels is mutated he wasn’t big like the one in the 80’s movie.

R-Pats is playing a Bene Tleilax, secretive gene-engineers from outside the rule of the imperium. It honestly looks like it's supposed to be a guild navigator, and there is a specific guild navigator who travels with R-Pats's character. If it's not that, it's a clone of Duncan Idaho that R-Pats is gifting to Paul.

u/Atharaphelun 1d ago
The latest trailer already confirmed that it's the Guild Navigator Edric. I don't understand why there are still people who think it might be Duncan Idaho given that there are scenes where Duncan walks alongside that floating vessel.
