I wouldn't. Especially since you have such a nice example and all these new OSes are coming out. I've been working on one myself that has made chopping sooo much faster, does key detection and will stretch your beats keeping the key that you set.

A super clean murdered out 2500 is the place to be, especially with all the OS possibilities now. It would be like trading mint 600SEL for an EQS.

Maybe I’ll just keep the 2500

Another vote here for the 2500 but I also very much like the interface of the older MPC's... it's like the last of a generation and a good mix of the higher end features on an OG feeling MP.

Wait. So, still really curious what “murdered out” means. Asking for a friend?

I have to know what “murdered out” means. Like, dying to know. (I’ll see myself out.)

I’ve heard people use the phrase when they’re taking about black cars with dark tint and blacked out trim. In similar fashion too this custom mpc2500

keep it, you'll regret getting rid of it. The X is awesome, so it's worth just saving up and buying it later, but the 2500 is irreplaceable

If you need to be faster with slicing and chopping , then yes.
Your 2500 looks incredible though , please make sure the MPC 3 OS does everything you need that’s currently in your JJOS.

I think what’s holding me back on this MPC is definitely the time and the new os is just so so much faster to chop and lay samples down.

I generally don't sell my stuff.
That 2500 goes for around $1200. The MPCX goes for about $800.

It's up to you. Only you know your workflow. But, personally, I wouldn't. I have a 2500 and a One+, and the One+ collects dust.

Similarly I have a 1K & a Live. The Live only comes out of it's case every few months to check / charge the battery & boot up to make sure it's still working. Been trying & failing to sell the damn thing for a year.

My opinion is you will miss it, the 2500 is a vibe.
Getting chops etc done faster isn’t always inherently better.
Also. Love your blacked out 2500

I'm asking the same question at the moment. I have the MPC 2500 laying here. I booted it up and did some chops. It was fun but tedious. I'm getting much more done with Ableton and faster. A Live III looks good but I'm probably good with Ableton and a controller.

How about a machine Plus

u/PhilMNTRL 1h ago
Forget that. Maschine is great by itself but Maschine Plus has been a mistreated opportunity by NI. If they had done their job in this it would have been great but right now in 2026 there’s no reason in sight at least for me to hop on the Maschine Plus when the modern MPC’s exist

That’s why i want to get rid of it because it takes me forever to do things on it the system is just old and the MPC X is such a faster work flow

It’s fast as hell if you keep at it. What is are you using? The stock os is terrible. It’s why most people are rocking the JJ or a new vibe coded firmware. Chopping is mindlessly simple on these things.

Do not trust those vibe coded things. They tend to fall to pieces under closer scrutiny. ANd your kinda taking your life into your own hands w/ upgrading. If the firmware update fails, the mpc turns into basically a boat anchor

Yeah I would rock JJOS on a 2500 tried and true code done by humans... the AI stuff worries me unless that was my lane and I had no stress about moving onto another machine if something happened. Not trying to throw shade on anybody into it, just personally I wouldn't wanna dabble with it in it's current stages.
