Commander / EDH Commander Displays
Finally got my 50+ commander decks on display.
I'm curious, how does everyone else display or store their commander's / cards?

I must ignore your question. I want that rug

Nice! As a father of young kids, I keep my decks locked away in case my son decides to get creative with my cards.

Looks like a basement. I would have those cards higher up from the floor if that is the case. Otherwise, great job! 🍻
8
u/QuantumBlazing 15h ago
It is a basement but I have dehumidifiers running daily, and a nice wood stove for the colder months 😁 🍻
10
u/WhoGoesThereMan 15h ago
That's good but make sure you get some water sensors on the floor in case of a flood!
6
u/QuantumBlazing 15h ago
Yes, also have those and a sub-pump. Made sure to be extra prepared when handling expensive cardboard 😁

I keep my favorite deck in a nice 3D printed deck box, on the top shelf for all to see. It's a labor of love that took a few years to find all the pieces.
I keep my other favorite deck unsleeved, rubber-banded together, in my backpack. The other week I threw it 15ft onto a table and then beat a $1000 deck with it. It was nice.

That was my first impression, I cared more about the rug than the decks >.< priorities

That is a cool rug!
I just store mine in bags when ready to go,
But just to share a friend in our playgroup built a Walk-in Museum (Shrine) Closet with
his self proclaimed Climate Control (Air Conditioner) and cleans once every month.
When i came over to take a look his Commander boxes were in Acrylic Cubes with Display Lights attached to them, and displays his Commanders in a 35p Magnetic case with stands next to the box covered in some microfiber cloth that he calls "Anti-Dust/Moisture and Filtration" measure and showed me another box full of those silica gel packs which apparently he replaces monthly in the Acrylic Cube,
Call him crazy but i was actually impressed, imagine a white room, fully guarded against outside bacteria and threats.
3
u/QuantumBlazing 2h ago
I never even considered display lights, that sounds awesome!
1
u/Esveed 1h ago
They sell them on Amazon; Just search Acrylic Display Case with LED's.
The one's i bought were branded as "Gudemay" and can probably fit 2-3 of your single deck boxes as displayed in the Image.A bit pricey for display, but they're stackable and can be put in a closet for admiration.
6
u/Provo2100 7h ago
Seems like it's working out well for you, but I will admit. I'll never understand the need to have 50+ decks to begin with.
8
u/QuantumBlazing 7h ago
I mentioned it on another comment but I have a larger playgroup that appreciates variety and I'm in a fortunate position to be able to fund the hobby. Mind you this has been building since 2020!
3
u/WispyBooi 7h ago
Hey can I barge into your dms and ask you some questions? You have a large variety of deckboxes and I would assume experience with them

u/blindeshuhn666 all creatures are beautiful 5h ago
That's still almost a deck a month
0
u/Alarmed-Guava7696 4h ago
Sure?
If Op proxies it's easily achievable.
I proxied a huge batch of lands (no duals but everything under) and I've been building and unmaking decks for years. Sometimes I'd build 2-3 a month and not pay a cent.
2
u/ImNotADefitUser 2h ago
I hate to say it but I have more than one deck a month and I have only been playing for 16 months. And that's not counting the vanilla precons. It's a good thing I got ahead on my mortgage before discovering the game and don't have kids. Occasionally I proxy a 50¢-$5 card with a pokemon energy and a sharpie but not often.
3
u/Lost-cereal- 4h ago
As much as I like collecting cards, I like building decks. I’m much more of a deck collector as I only collect cards to build decks.
1
u/QuantumBlazing 2h ago
Well put. Of course we can build for free using apps and such but not the same as rifling through bulk!
3
u/NerdfestZyx 3h ago
Compare it to different characters in D&D or World of Warcraft.
I have 40+ decks, and every one of them means something to me. Some more than others, but each one holds personal value.
1
3
u/Own_Hunt422 15h ago
Nice. I don't have nearly that many decks yet. I mostly have loose cards with about 12 decks. Mainly I love that rug lol that's dope as hell
3
u/nathones 15h ago
Does each one get played once a year?
5
u/QuantumBlazing 15h ago
Haha well I play once a week and we usually manage to get 4-5 games in. I never play the same deck twice unless I get a really bad side of one.
2
u/HistoricalAthlete301 2h ago
My wife and I play at least 2 1vs1 commander games every 3 days, and we play in a pod with friends and family about 1-2 times a month normally 2 games each time we meet them for dinner. My wife and I have around 60 decks between us.

u/kiakro 13h ago
I obsessively pretty up the Ultra Pro Satin Towers and Cubes with stickers, it's pricey but I pick a pile of bricks and slip them into my backpack with ease as I never get the pleasure of hosting games.
I dig your vibe, I'd love to roll up in there and treat that shelf like some sort of Mortal Kombat tower to beat.
1
u/QuantumBlazing 8h ago
I love the UP towers! I have a few (not shown). Definitely great for travel 😁
And heck yeah! It's often close my eyes and pick one at random every time haha
3
u/HistoricalAthlete301 3h ago
Building decks suits my particular ADHD, so the there is more to it for me that owning or having many decks. I build around 1-3 a month.... And yes I have a life with family, friends and other hobbies.
2
u/QuantumBlazing 2h ago
Agreed! I love to build but sometimes I want to build too much and I forget it costs money 😂
3
5
u/GoblinAirStrike_311 2h ago
Glorious display.
Where do you stash all the tokens for these decks?
2
u/QuantumBlazing 1h ago
I don't often double sleeve my decks (only 2 of them are currently) and a lot of my deck boxes have the space to hold a divider and my tokens 🙂
2
u/WalkMan1615 15h ago
Do you only play commander or other formats as well? Just curious if you have other MTG deck displays.
2
u/QuantumBlazing 15h ago
Mostly commander because that's what a lot of my friends prefer. But I do have a few 60 cards decks although I don't even know what I'd classify them as lol. Not displayed at the moment.
5
u/WalkMan1615 15h ago
I feel that. I have a few modern decks that never see the light of day lol. Sometimes I wish commander had a more competitive format other than just cEDH but yknow.
4
u/QuantumBlazing 15h ago
I've been really enjoying pauper commander decks with actual budgets (because some commons can still be outrageous). And also two headed giant commander and really trying to combo with your partners deck! They've been enjoyable to say the least lol.
2
u/_Fuzzgoddess_ 15h ago
I have mine in little cardboard drawer things that hold 3-4 decks at a time and sit on a wire shelf. I have 50 of them so I've run out of space

I've actually not lol. Just 50+ decks of unique commanders that I enjoy. Thanks for checking it out!

1
u/QuantumBlazing 15h ago
Gargos, Vicious Watcher Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm Betor, Kin to All Sliver Overlord Sefris of the Hidden Ways
What about you, do you have a top 5?
2
u/Login_Of_The_Guild 15h ago
My top five are Captain N’ghathrod, Magnus the red, Marvin The Murderous Mimic, Ingris Stingerquill and Ognis The Dragons Lash also can I see the list for Sefris
1
u/QuantumBlazing 15h ago
I have bad memories with Stingerquill lol.
Here's my Sefris build! https://moxfield.com/decks/S1VIuwg6GkaP0gvscnMcAg

Thank you and my stingerquill deck is mostly just pinging and goblins so

That rug is outstanding! I keep my commander decks in deck boxes ina closet on a shelf I bring 8 with me to commander night in a the Squaroes DC Comics Justice League Collectors Case
2
u/CanadianGamersLodge 14h ago
I keep both my decks in boulders in a carry case.
2
u/QuantumBlazing 8h ago
Nice! One of my friends does the same, I've been meaning to grab my own carry case.

Idk if I can post links but here’s how I store mines.
1
u/Chacudno 13h ago
Genuine question, no hate or disrespect. Why add the S to mine? I see it all the time.
1
u/Tinwookie 13h ago
Mostly because I was holding my baby and I use the swipe option on my keyboard. So I don’t tend to autocorrect myself much now a days.

My modern deck with 4 mox opals, and other expensive affinity pieces is in a bespoke wooden box, custom made by a local maker. Its all double sleeved in the finest sleeves from the era.
Everyone else which includes precon commander decks are in the boxes they came in or whatever box was empty or cheap.
They should count themselves lucky they even have sleeves.
They mostly live in my backpack. The affinity deck has a place in my fire safe with my original magic art when I am not currently taking it to events. I love that deck. It is no longer the tier 1 monster it was circa. Modern masters 15, but its tier 1 in my heart eternally.
1
u/QuantumBlazing 8h ago
Love that! I really appreciate woodwork and always wanted something like that for my cards. I need to find me a local person!
2
u/WhiteNorthAstronomy 12h ago
A) that rug is awesome. B) where do you get your windowed deck boxes from?
2
u/QuantumBlazing 8h ago
Thank you! Often I buy from Amazon. Kabinka or UAONO brands. But then again there's often always new sellers with different variations. I often wait for sales lol.
2
u/Kritz_McGee yo dawg, i heard you like dragons 12h ago
Love the rug, that's sick!
I have a small shelf and deck boxes for my complete decks. The decks I'm working on sit by my desk until I finish them.
2
u/GoblinFive Simps for Korvold 12h ago
I just have every deck in a Boulder and the Boulders in a bunch of Superhives which are stuck in a closet shelf and then aime sorting boxes. I try to only keep cards that are part of a deck and then some "I-know-these-might-have-use-later" cards in a sorting box
2
u/ReadInBothTenses 12h ago
I think it's time i admit that i need more storage than my dresser drawer. Thank you for the reality check should've been a no brainer.
Good collection and kickass rug 👌

u/Maximum_Durian6788 11h ago
I'm the guys walking into the lgs with the toolbox and custom printed deck-cells with a top loader holding the deck in. I have two toolboxes plus excess deck-cells and even with my recent downsize to construct new decks, I've a generous 17'ish decks ready to play that range from b1 to b4, from Jank the Deck, to Jank the Game (think odds and ends/weird mechanics), up to actually trying to win the game.

u/Minimum_Pickle_5678 9h ago
I’ve only got 3 decks so I don’t have anything fancy for my storage lol, but do you display them based on how much fun you have with them or power? Or is it totally random?
2
u/QuantumBlazing 8h ago
Honestly my more expensive decks tend to sit towards the top, but as I started the second shelf it was based on when the deck was built from there down.
2
u/Minimum_Pickle_5678 7h ago
2 of my decks are precons and the other is a very budget Krenko deck, how expensive do your decks get??
1
u/QuantumBlazing 7h ago
My most expensive deck is currently Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm. When getting into Magic I was HUGE into dragons, and it was during the D&D sets so I got a bunch of dragons. Also bought into Tarkir Dragonstorm and the D&D secret lair so the cards got pricy haha. Here's the decklist if you're curious:

I have a toddler if I did this they would immediately be displayed strewn about the floor basically daily ready to be gathered.
Been playing on and off since 2004.
My modern standard and pauper decks are on the top 3-4 labels shelves of a deep bookshelf and my commander decks are on the closer shelf in their yellow+ black organizing container from Home Depot. One day ~2022 I looked up and realized I had over a dozen EDH decks (mostly zero proxies and at the time only proxies cards I owned bc I got tired of moving lands/staples around) and couldn’t justify building more bc I wasted way more time tinkering, gold fishing, acquiring cards and brewing than actually playing with my weekly play groups.
I keep modern playable in a binder and hand one other binder for traces.

How many years of magic is this? I’m 2 months in
1
u/QuantumBlazing 15h ago
I've been playing since 2020 when the game nights 2 set released. It got me into the game but when D&D commander sets came out in 2021 I started spending a lot on the game.

u/JitsuBender93 15h ago

Nice! That got a few of my friends into the game too. Some reaaaaally good cards from that set. I was especially happy to see ally support.

Have a favorite as far as box styles/designs? I've been meaning to standardize and get all my precons in better boxes, but just can't pick what design to go with, don't want to order like 30 deck boxes and find out I hate them.
1
u/QuantumBlazing 14h ago
Yes and no.. I have found ones on Amazon to be well enough, although there was a double-sided box that they stopped making so I've been holding out lol.

Hahaha I promise I'm not that toxic! One of my friends thats new to magic built one because of how easy it is to understand.

u/Old_wayer 6h ago
I started hating commander multiplayer format, i built three commander just to play with my friends (b 2-3 and 4) but i would to invest again in 60-cards deck format like pioneer or pauper, i miss old magic, when no one used to boring me and contraddict esch move i do just to convince me that he's not the threat 🙄😒

But why so many? I mean mtg is fun but this seems more like an addiction then a hobby
3
u/BLKHLK 10h ago
Why not? I have 48 and counting decks. I enjoy collecting and keeping my precons stock. I create my own decks too. My wife has about 30 of her own decks as well. They all get randomly played and shown some love. Lifes too short not to enjoy your hobbies, especially if you have the expendable income for it.
-2
u/NosatiNosonja 10h ago
Way to expencive for a side hobby.
1
u/BLKHLK 10h ago
Then don't spend your money on it?
2
u/Same_Age_3031 9h ago
Bro is the dean of hobbies, don’t question him. If he says it’s too much then that is the rule of law
-2
u/NosatiNosonja 10h ago
As mentioned in previos reply, i was a seller do yeah dont worry i wont be spending any money on mtg anytime soon since i sold everything. I just dont consider that owning 50 commander decks is something we should not praise, like okej good but it looks more of an addiction than a healty hobby at that point.
2
u/Same_Age_3031 10h ago
Just because this guy can afford more than you doesn’t mean this is an addiction…
it’s incredibly rude to say that about his hobby.
0
u/NosatiNosonja 10h ago
Yeah it still looks more of an addiction than a hobby, meet a lot of people and they dont do anything except play Mtg, nothing else. And the amount of money (which you will never get back unless you proffesionally sell cards and make it your husle, that takes alot of time i know i have done it). They really are printing money for themselfs over at Wizards...
1
u/QuantumBlazing 8h ago
Hey! I'm fortunate to have a larger playgroup that appreciates variety in decks to play. I'm also fortunate to be in a position where I can fund the hobby along with other hobbies in my life! You could call it an addiction to fun! Cheers 🍻
