The Sacramento Kings may be one of the worst teams of the Decade this year
This is not a joke. This team has no chemistry, has horrible coaching, has no direction, and looks completely lost out there. This team genuinely may not even reach 15 wins this year and they still won’t get a good draft pick. This is going to be a crazy year for them.

Water is wet. Worst coach in the league is only making things worse. We should’ve cut bait on DC after the season ended. Now we’re throwing whoever we hire to replace him into a shitty situation and have wasted a year of development for Acuff.

Add in signing the literal WORST possible PG vet for Acuff to learn under.
Literally drunk Ty Lawson would at least give Acuff some knowledge of what not to do.
Simmons probably showing him what kinda Kangaroo fur handbag he would recommend Acuff pose with in his social media pictures

u/Dazzling_One_8663 21h ago
Acuff don't seem to be super into that, seems kinda like a ball is life kinda dude, but the more and more media I see from him, that boy is dumber than a rock.

I think we'll first have to wait and see if this is even the worst Kings team of the decade
11
u/Nails__DeChamp Magic 1d ago
I can think of teams that are about as bad or worse than this Kings team on paper, but I think whoever the worst team this year is (if it is the Kings) is going to have a historically awful season because more teams will be trying than ever before.
It will take a few years for things to stabilize or fans to put it in context, but this first year is going to be ROUGH for the worst team
1
u/Dazzling_One_8663 21h ago
I feel like they're absolutely a few teams that are just as bad as the Kings, although they at least seem to have somewhat cohesion going on, with at least somewhat of a real coach.
If the Kings can avoid injuries and shake off some of the rust (Sabonis only played 19 games last year Murray played 22 fucking Ben Simmons hasn't played in 2 years) and they somehow manage to find some kind of chemistry to work with, I don't see them being the worse team this year...however it's a Shakey ass house and a couple of injuries could easily put them at the bottom this year.
I Dunno, this team looks really bad, I think there are a couple of legit reasons why as far as coming off injuries, and shaking off the rust, but the biggest thing is going to be our coach is dog shit, and you're going to have to actually have a decent coach to make this team work.

But not to be outdone by the 23/24 Wizards.

I thought firing Mark Jackson was insane at the time. We'd been ass my entire life besides the we believe years and then we had a good team again and fire the coach?? But hindsight is 20/20, it was absolutely the right move.

This is without question. You got 4 titles. With Mark you might not even get 1. Look at how the offense was ran when he was in charge

didn't we learn Mark was too overtly religious to function within a pro sports franchise anymore?... if not with the players, then at least with the staff and front office? to the point that he banned some personel from practice?

That gets said like half the time and there's always some good players, they just aren't obvious at the time.
5
u/bigpancakeguy Lakers 18h ago
And surely the Kings will find those diamonds in the rough
2
u/RspectMyAuthoritah Lakers 11h ago
Drafting hasn't been a big problem for the Kings. They drafted Haliburton at 12 and he's looking like a top 2 player from that draft and an All NBA player. Davion Mitchell has become a good player. Murray was looking like a good player before he spent too much time with the Kings. Maxime Raynaud looks like a good pick in the 2nd. Acuff has looked worth his draft spot in the preseason and Emmanuel Sharp has looked like a really good pick in the 2nd this year.
2
u/TheSorceIsFrong 11h ago
Kings actually gets quite a few diamonds in the rough. The problem is being a King IS the rough and you become a diamond when you leave
1
u/JollyGraduate95 Lakers 1d ago
The odds are now better if you are a mid team than being the bottom 'relegation zone' team

u/JollyGraduate95 Lakers 20h ago

Doesn't come off that way when you start off talking about mid team odds.

u/hickok3 Raptors 1d ago edited 1d ago
The NBA reformed the draft lottery, and now the bottom 3 teams instead of getting the best odds for the #1 pick, now get worse odds than the other non-playoff teams, but equal to the playin losers. They also expanded the draft to 16 teams and have given the worst odds to the loser of the 7-8 playin games.
Essentially in an effort to fix tanking, the NBA has made it bad to be a bottom 3 team, which Sacramento looks like they may be.
Edit to add: ESPN has a simulation that shows how the teams are drawn really simply, and everyone should check it out. https://espnanalytics.com/nba-321-presentation

1
u/JigsawMind 7h ago
We can debate seeding sure, but they were legit good that year. They were far from the worst team in the league and nowhere near a "worst team of the decade".
3
u/Gracechurch2 15h ago
New lottery rules may likely mean we’ve seen the worst records of the decade already
3
u/MixMastaPJ Jazz 14h ago
Or, it means if there's actually a clearcut worst team, they'll never get any freebies.
Honestly the team I expect to go completely basement level is Brooklyn. The roster is rough, and THEY DON'T OWN THEIR PICK. The other new rule makes it so you can't have #1 in back to back seasons. What better way to ensure you don't accidentally give the #1 pick to Houston than to be bottom 3 instead? That way they're still eligible for #1 in the 2028 draft.
1
u/betadonkey 11h ago
And they’ll stay the worst team forever because they’ll never get a good draft pick. New lottery is going to be a disaster.
1
u/MixMastaPJ Jazz 11h ago
You might be right, but I think we haven't seen how these changes might affect approaches to rebuilding. It might be worth it to be the destination to take your MPJs or Lavines who can go off and play better than a clean cap sheet with a lot of young guys. Utilize your cap to build a below average roster so when you strike it big, those guys expire, you stay 4-10 for a couple years and hope to stack your lottery guys that way.
Do I trust front offices like Sacramento or New Orleans to figure it out? No, not really, but a team like Memphis who sold out all their big pieces, got a decent pick, is in a decent spot to finish 4-10 a couple of times and stack real talent cheaply around Boozer could do it.
I think the "blow it up" era and stripping it down to the studs approach is done, you need to keep some pieces around to stay competitive enough, and Brooklyn could feasibly do that in 27-28
1
u/wooIIyMAMMOTH 3h ago
There are other ways than the draft to build a team that’s good enough to be one of the top 27 teams in the league. Yes if you fail to achieve that you will be punished. Try again next year. Welcome to sports

A few things:
- Yes, this Kings team is horrific
- Yes, 15 games is probably about right
- No, that doesn't mean they won't get a good draft pick. I'm not sure where everyone got the idea that if you're in the bottom 3 there's no chance you'll get a top pick. You just have a little less chance.

This team cant get within 20 on a pre season game. They will be lucky to win 15 games. It starts with the leagues worst owner and not sure what the GM is trying to do with thia roster but dump everyone for young players and draft picks and have a plan. Hard to blame Christie because Pat Riley and Phil Jackson could not get much more out of a horrible roster.

The 2024-25 and 2025-26 Wizards were already among the worst teams of all time, going by Basketball Reference's Simple Rating System (SRS):
1992-93 Dallas Mavericks -14.68
2011-12 Charlotte Hornets -13.96
2024-25 Washington Wizards -12.14
1970-71 Cleveland Cavaliers -12.04
1997-98 Denver Nuggets -11.74
2025-26 Washington Wizards -11.62
1972-73 Philadelphia 76ers -11.50
Really don't think the Kings will be as bad as that this season.
Despite 2025-26 being the worst season in Kings history (-9.58 SRS, 26th-worst all-time), I don't think the Kings will be as bad this year.

They still own their 1st rd pick for next year and no incentive to tank anymore. They could surprise us, they just need more wins than Memphis (also has their own 1st), New Orleans and Clippers.

I mean… If Simmons has a bounce back year the starting 5 on paper is pretty good imo. Simons might be the help defender Sabonis always needed. But a lot of things need to click for them, including Keegans 3pt shooting otherwise the spacing will be terrible.

Idk how they are even a team still. Shouldn't be allowed to play in the league if you aren't even trying at the front office level. This team has never not been anything more than mediocre. Sell the team and move it somewhere else or at least sell it to someone that cares, otherwise what's the point?
