lol the comments are basically 76ers fighting with bragging Celtics fans that this is not even their main guys
36
u/CarBallAlex Celtics 1d ago
I mean, we played none of our starters and started G leaguers and let an assistant coach the game, 76ers played all their guys except Edgecombe and we stayed attached the whole game. Celtics playing with house money, but 76ers get preseason built in excuse. People are going to have takes and overreact to anything. I’m just having a good time

u/Napolean_BonerFarte 1d ago edited 1d ago
You can tell it’s preseason because there’s no way the Sixers have a fully healthy roster during the regular season
6
u/Darondo Celtics 1d ago
Yeah it means nothing for Boston but it should be very embarrassing for Sixers.
-2
u/NaldMoney9207 22h ago
I could see 76ers fans saying these guys haven't played together much so it's no big deal. To be fair they haven't played together much. JB was guarding Maxey in the playoffs just a few months ago and now they're teammates.

u/ALotOfLobster 20h ago
As I Celtics I think thats my take away more than anything for the Sixers... that and they need a another
9
u/Te5la1 Celtics 23h ago
Why would we not brag about our development system not allowing the Sixers’ starters to have a walk in the park lol
-5
u/NaldMoney9207 22h ago
Because it's preseason. Also if these teams meet in the playoffs could be the 76ers who have the last laugh if they build chemistry.

He was a +17 in his 25 minutes and did a little of everything. I think that’s a perfect role for him this year. Idk what people criticizing are talking about.

Love how everyone thinks pre season means anything all of a sudden 😂
2

Don't they do this every year? Everyone wants it to mean something. But the players really don't give a shit.

u/j_cruise Nets 11h ago
I feel like it's worse than uear for some reason.
But yeah... people expending so much energy to argue about this shit even though every single one of these games will be completely forgotten forever within weeks.

u/Napolean_BonerFarte 1d ago
Completely agree. You can tell it’s preseason because there’s no way y’all have a full roster during the actual season
-9
u/noyram08 Lakers 1d ago
Of course not but 76ers looks old and hobbled, that’s concerning especially this early. But yeah maybe it’s them starting slow, that was the case for Bron for the past few seasons now. How was JB at least?

u/LatterLaw8105 1d ago
Who looks old and hobbled? Embiid was awesome today and he’s known for having the rough starts in a season.
Lebron looked fine too. Maxey was great. So what exactly are you talking about

u/uncledrew2488 1d ago
I didn’t have ‘caring about the meaningless NBA preseason’ as a square on my Societal Collapse Bingo Card, brought to you by DraftKings.

The starting lineup can't shoot 3s and have 0 defence whatsoever.

u/DowntownCapital182 1d ago
Preseason my guy. Chill.
3
u/Napolean_BonerFarte 1d ago
Nothing to do with preseason. Anyone with a brain can look at their roster and see that it’s talented but has no spacing or defense
-10
u/DowntownCapital182 1d ago
Brown plays d, kcp is 3 and d. Bj edgecomb is still a wild card, maxey is as fast as anyone and can d up when necessary, embiid is a liability sometimes as is LeBron but both have moments of brilliance on that end. It’s still to early to say they can’t play d. They are deep Simons is a dope player too.

u/Ok-Protection2513 Hornets 1d ago
Youre right. BJ Edgecomb is a wild card. Ive never even heard of that guy.

I don’t have a team my guy. I’m an Ohio born guy so I’m a bron fan always have been but I’m not a 6ers fan believe it or not. At this point I’m just a basketball fan. I think the best teams this year are in the west. I also think Miami is the team to beat in the east.
5
u/bhris_cratt321 Knicks 1d ago
Maxey can not D up when necessary. He’s below average and at best, he’s only slightly below average
1
u/DowntownCapital182 1d ago
Maybe not on Brunson but after watching what he did to the spurs I don’t think many can. Outside of that he can move his feet and slide with the best and expect LeBron to put him in the right positions better than he was in the past.
2
u/bhris_cratt321 Knicks 1d ago
I’m not expecting him to guard Brunson. Maxey has quick hands but his on ball positioning is not great and his off ball awareness is even worse imo.
Sure LeBron might help that but tbh, a basically new squad is going to have a lot of trouble finding cohesion on the defensive end especially with multiple liabilities. I don’t expect the defense to be very good this year at all
2
u/Napolean_BonerFarte 1d ago
Man I don’t even know where to start with this one lol. It’s been years since KCP was a playable shooter. Maxey is just a bad defender, pretty much every defensive stat has him worse than Harden. Embiid was traffic cone last year against the Knicks. It’s been 2 full years since we’ve seen LeBron be a positive in either side of the floor, I doubt either is coming back. Simons is fine but the 76ers have one of the worst benches in the league, they are not deep.
3
u/DowntownCapital182 1d ago
Did you watch the playoffs last year? I’m pretty sure I watched LeBron carry a team without its 2 best players on the court. Regular season stats are less important than playoff performance.
-4
u/Napolean_BonerFarte 1d ago
LeBron was extremely mid in the playoffs last year. Terrible shooting splits and the Lakers were better with him off the court
5
u/DowntownCapital182 1d ago
Did you actually watch the games or just read stats and watch highlights. Cause he was the engine that won the series. His presence, passing and positioning made it happen. Marcus smart played his fing ass off too.
3
u/Southern_Clerk8697 1d ago
This guy actually said the Lakers were better with Lebron off the court. In a series without Luka and Reaves for most of the Rockets series. So you're telling me the Lakers could have gone 3-0 against the Rockets without Bron, Reaves, and Luka? Do you know how ridiculous you look right now?

Oh lol. If you're saying the Sixers don't look good, I would say wait until after the first week of the regular season.
Most people know it is going to take time for them to gel, but we play the Knicks, Cavs, and Pistons in three of our first four games. So that will be a good litmus test of where we are.
Preseason when players are missing, starters aren't playing hard (especially on defense), and neither team is running normal actions isn't the time to make conclusions like that imo.
1
u/NaldMoney9207 22h ago
76ers will probably start off slow and be around .500 by Thanksgiving. Then December to the end of the season they'll start winning more games more often as they build chemistry with each other and shake off the rust of going at half speed during training camp and preseason.
Celtics on the other hand have more depth. More younger guys on the bench who are hungry to prove themselves. They'll be in the mix for a top 4 seed because they'll play with more energy in the regular season.
The problem for the Celtics will be during the postseason when the game slows down and it's harder to defend guys like Maxey and Jaylen Brown who can hit very very tough shots and make plays in crunch time. It'll be harder for the Celtics top 7 at that time and the younger guys won't be playing much.

I can’t even imagine what he would have looked like in his prime in this transition heavy era. Although, conversely maybe he doesn’t last as long playing that style/pace.
