[Scotto] The San Antonio Spurs exercised their team options on Stephon Castle ($12.67 million), Dylan Harper ($13.61 million) and Carter Bryant ($5.39 million) for the 2027-28 season.

Two of them are top 5 picks. It would be weird if they weren’t this good.

...it's pretty easy to back through the drafts to see top 5 picks turning out bad lol

Ya Harper was the only one where it was pretty guranteed he was going to be good

But the expectation is that top 5 picks will be franchise players is it not?

You know drafting players isnt a science right?

u/supacatkid Thunder 1h ago
Yeah definitely. But what does that have to do with expecting players picked in the top 5 to be good?

Because not all top 5 picks are good…

You're confusing expectations with guarantees. Nobody drafts someone in the top 5 expecting them to be a bust. That's literally his point lol.

Is the expectation not that top 5 picks be great?

u/notfadeaway72 Hornets 2h ago
Sure just like I expected Jahlil Okafor and Markelle Fultz to be great

Right, that was the expectation. But they weren’t which was weird and was a story for years.
It’s crazy that Kawhi ended up being so good or Jimmy Butler, Tony Parker, etc. it is not “highway robbery” for top 5 picks to end up being good/great players.
Swear to god if my flair wasn’t Thunder flair people wouldn’t be so far up their asses about this. Can’t say shit about spurs players without everyone getting defensive

It's crazy that 14m is a rookie salary now, i mean ofc because of the cap increasing but you're drafted basically top 20 and you have generational wealth, even more so than before
