Cheap gas

Those lining up for the cheap gas at the orange store just to let up know that canadian tire gas bars are part of the gas sale. Just left 1 pretty well empty.

All to save maybe $10 on a fill up and burn the same amount waiting in line to get to the pumps 🤣

u/noquarter1983 3d ago

nothing is gonna burn 10 bucks waiting in a line.

It burns ten bucks of my time.

And more than a few dollars worth of aggravation sitting waiting for gas.

My Tundra says otherwise

Same with my Ram! I’ll wait and get it at Costco when i need it, its pointless to wait in a lineup for 30 mins to save 5-10$ and burn the same amount

Its gonna make everyone burn more stuck in traffic jams with nothing to do with it.

All to reinforce higher future prices with the instant demand and lower supply. The whole announcing gas prices weekly bit was exactly the same. Businesses know how to sell product for maximum profit. Governments equally reap the benefit of higher taxes.

Id pay someone 10 bucks to skip a line

My time is more valuable than saving $10. People who wait in line for gas are strange

u/Coggleton91 Newfoundlander 3d ago

I'd pay $10 just to not to have to wait in a long line, let alone do it voluntarily haha

Lots of people are struggling and need to save every dollar they can. It’s not strange, it’s bullshit people need to spend what little free time they have to save on gas but that’s enough money saved for a hot meal. Get off your high horses

People to whom $10 is a lot, are not vehicle owners

disconnected take

How so

6

u/Ok_Science_8502 3d ago

having a vehicle does not mean you are financially stable for the entirety of your life

I was legit waiting for 45 minutes, I realized in my job I make ~33/hr and came to the same conclusion you just brought up - we’re losing money waiting in line that long lol

They are the people who lineup to save a few dollars on a Big Mary.

Some people have way more patience than me, same folks were lining up for three hours to get Taco Bell when they opened

u/IIMillennium 3d ago

Appreciate the savings but the Avalon is fucking gridlocked over $10 FFS

Circle k and essos have a similar promotion on the go tomorrow

I don’t know shit about gas, can you explain what’s happening? Cheap gas?

9

u/Suitable-End- 3d ago

Save 15 cent per liter between 4pm and 8pm.

8

u/WorkingAssociate9860 3d ago

Both have a fuel day where they have slightly cheaper gas for a couple hours

Gas is like food for cars

11

u/muddtrout 3d ago

The cheapest fuel I ever bought was when I plugged my car into my garage ⚡

I was in an all electric Silverado winter past. As soon as I can afford it that’s what I’ll be having.

That’s the way of the future there. Coming from someone that laughed at the idea of an all electric truck at first.

EV trucks interest me. Are they just grocery getters or are you taking it down the woods to cut a load. Are you hauling anything with it?

4

u/ShirtStainedBird 3d ago

I would be yes. Mostly just taking my boat up, very little if any travelling with her. Said he got about 700km summer time and 600 or so winter. That plenty far for me. Would call myself the perfect use case, because we live in central. Anywhere I go clear of Stanthony should be able to get back with minimal charge.

I don’t suppose it would do much for say hauling a camper across the island. But like everything it has its place.

EVs have tons of power. The only thing I'd be careful about is scraping the battery. As long as the road is decent it'd be best kind

1

u/Orange_Jeews 2d ago

I know they have lots of power. I'd be more concerned with battery life when towing

1

u/muddtrout 2d ago

Yes, you'd certainly have to charge more often

u/TakameCC 3d ago

I hear ya, just over 1 year in and best move I've ever made.

We bought our EV two weeks ago. There’s an Orange Store on the corner near us and driving past that bonkers lineup yesterday was the smuggest I’ve ever allowed myself to feel. (A close second was when I got my friends to delete me from their daily “what’s tomorrow’s gas price” group chat).

2

u/muddtrout 2d ago

BAAAHAHAH yes I know the feeling 😆

I'm so glad we got one when we did!

4

u/CheerBear2112 3d ago

Fuck orange store and fuck these idiots burning more gas than they're saving. At every single goddamned one.

This was wild to see. I had no idea there was a sale going on and started panicking there was going to be a fuel shortage for weeks or something. Googled it to see if I needed to hop in line too.

When I found out it was only 15 cents a litre (100L fuel tank) and people were waiting an hour plus…$15/hr isn’t worth it IMO

Circle K has 10 cents off tomorrow Oct 15 from 3-7 PM, also collect Blue Rewards points.

Tomorrow is also National Shawarma Day at Osmow’s

1

u/wooddirtsy 3d ago

The most mid shawarma I've ever had.

u/Weird-Mulberry1742 3d ago

Better than any other in St. John’s, it’s no Ali Baba’s like in downtown Toronto but for 5$ it’s a awesome deal

2

u/AfraidHelicopter 3d ago

Better than any other in St. John’s

Definitely not lol there's a few better options around

Recommendation?

Mohammed Ali's

6

u/electro_mullet 3d ago

Mohamed Ali's has been closed for 5 years?

0

u/wooddirtsy 2d ago

They run out of a house on suvla street now. Same guy.

1

u/electro_mullet 2d ago

Interesting! How recently have you had food from there? Looks like they haven't posted to their Facebook page in over a year now, and the website they setup for making online orders last March takes you to a domain holding splash page.

I didn't even realize they had re-opened, so I'm certainly not in the loop on this one, but just from a cursory google search it doesn't look like there's any indication they're still up and running at that location either.

1

u/wooddirtsy 2d ago

Almost a year ago now. You can either place an order through their site or call.

0

u/Weird-Mulberry1742 2d ago

Yeah that sound so legit.

0

u/wooddirtsy 2d ago

I don't know what to tell you. I ate the food not even a year ago and it was the same guy, same taste, and same price.

1

u/Ahdahn 3d ago

Costco has it for $1.96 today

1

u/Klutzy_Detail9292 3d ago

It was ultramar as well. But just fyi for folks that tomorrow circle K gas stations will be 10cents off and have coupons and stuff on the go.

1

u/Firm-Positive1540 2d ago

This is off topic but I was born in the 80s when gas was 56 to 86 cents 🤣😂 to me nothing is cheap for gas prices unless it's under a dollar. Costco gas was 29 cents back in 2008 lol think it changed around 2011 to over a dollar this was in Ontario

1

u/throwaway1215123 2d ago

My tinfoil hat theory says is that because we’re switching over to winter gas from October 16th , North Atlantic and Irving had surplus stock they needed to get rid of before Oct 16th because they overestimated seasonal demand (people are probably driving less because prices are high)

u/homeonthehighway1 3d ago

I was wondering wtf was going on, cruising down the TCH today and needed fuel, go to pull in and there were 100 damn people in line... drove to the next station and paid .10 more a liter to not have to wait in line for 10 hours

u/martej 3d ago

Come to Ontario. It’s 1.75 here right now
