That kid man... this video was close to being posted in kidsrdumb or w/e that sub is lol

You mean the kid is dumb for minding his own business going up the stairs and almost being run over by an adult man doing skateboard tricks for his Instagram?

Crowd or no, the message is the same. If my kid got hit using the stairs as intended I'd lose my shit. I've been skating for over 30 years and my kid put feet on a board like 6 weeks after she could stand (no I didn't put a toddler on a board on thier own).
I'm going to guess kid was in little to no danger and it was mostly camera perspective. Also dude had good control.
Chill out both y'all.

In the video they were actually on the same stair and he went one up right before going by him.
Which leads me to this and I need someone smarter than me to confirm this lol. This video feels it has AI in it. Just some things that don't feel right. People's lack of reactions, especially the kids, the parked vehicles at the end between those posts, etc.

u/January_Rain_Wifi 13h ago
I hate the kids are dumb subreddit, because a toddler getting hit by a man on a skateboard is exactly the sort of thing they post there. And they would go on and on about "being aware of your surroundings" or "where are the kid's parents". Genuinely baffling.

u/AvenirRadieux 12h ago edited 8h ago
Saw a video in which a little kid, maybe 4-5 years old, was hit with much force by a skater on a ramp.
The mother ran towards the child who was obviously wailing after the impact. Sure, she should've kept an eye on her kid in such a dangerous environment...
But what struck me is that the skater didn't even look back to see if the kid was alright. He just stood up and laughed while looking at his friend holding the camera. (Edit: and by laugh I mean a sneer, as if to say "whatever, I knew it'd come to this)
Whether you're in the wrong or not doesn't matter, any decent human being would be concerned for a child getting hurt and potentially hitting their head on a hard surface.
I got like 200 downvotes for pointing that out.
Their answers?
"Well, the mother shouldn't be so dumb as to let her child wander unsupervised."
Muted the sub that very day

u/DashingDino 9h ago
Sure, she should've kept an eye on her kid in such a dangerous environment...
So this ramp was in a skatepark? Why was the parent bringing her toddler to a skatepark in the first place? Skateparks are not playgrounds.

They were right, why on earth as a parent would you let your kid wander around a skate park?

I’ve watched a kid watch a bicyclist coming at him slowly. Kid stands still. Just as the bike is about to pass the kid moves right in front of it lol. Got creamed. I felt bad for bike man who was clearly trying to just safely go down the road.

u/VictoryVee 10h ago
Skateboards are loud, so you gotta be fairly oblivious to not see him coming. Either way that sub isnt actually calling the kids dumb, its just poking fun at kids for not knowing better
1
u/sauce_delgado 6h ago
Holy fuck you guys are so dramatic. They both realized each other and the guy was not "almost running him over". This completely alone and unattended child could be running into traffic and you guys would find a way to blame the traffic

Yup. Idiot skateboarder wasn’t looking up at all. Only down at the stairs. Yeah he’s talented but he’s also a jackass for doing this and not giving a shit about safety of others.

u/OldBlueKat 13h ago
I did wonder if it really was as close as it looked, or just a trick of camera angle. But yeah, if that toddler had turned suddenly, as they often do, it would have been UGLY.
12
u/PereMilon 13h ago
Definitely not. In real life, both the child and the skater appear completely unbothered.
Good thing we have the internet.
0
u/genreprank 12h ago
The mom is completely unbothered, too
7
u/OldBlueKat 12h ago
As I said, camera angle.
But IDK how you are sure which adult sitting there is the toddler’s Mom or babysitter. And I’ve seen adults unaware of kid being ready to step into traffic, too.
Obviously nothing happened, and it probably wasn’t a very close call. But it could have easily become one.
6
u/genreprank 12h ago
No one was apparently bothered. You don't even need to know which one is the parent.
I mean, if that was my kid, I would be there, putting myself in the way. Making a fuss. Except I don't have great reaction time or situational awareness, so it probably would have been over before I could react or notice. No harm, no foul, but I would be watching closely after that.

u/PereMilon 12h ago

No, fuck this guy and every skater like him. I was all about this vid until I saw that. Other adults who know how to avoid dumbasses, fine. I love skating, but it ain't that hard to wait til they're gone or ask them to move for a moment. Too bad these types are as mature as the kid he almost hit.

u/nonamejohnsonmore 18h ago
And if the asshole on the skateboard had overbalanced just a little bit that poor kid could have wound up eating a skateboard. Go to a skatepark if you want to do shit like this, not on a public stairway.
142
u/the_rare_bear 17h ago
You’re acting like the dude was flying by with no control. Each step is like 3 feet wide and at their closest, they had a whole step between them.
51
u/Injured-Ginger 16h ago
He passes the kid on the step immediately above the kid. You can clearly see the kid stepping up onto the same step while his back wheel is still down. He was also on the same step as the kid while within a few feet, and if he lost control there, the board could have continued forward, hitting the kid
I'm not the type to say people should only skate in skate parks, but he needs to give more space to others, especially a child.
→ More replies (9)0
u/the_rare_bear 12h ago
The kids foot touches the corner of the step slightly after the skateboards back wheels left the step.
1
u/Injured-Ginger 11h ago
Yeah. My point was more that the kid was stepping up, not on the step. That means he is at/over the edge of the step while the skateboarder is in his path. Even if the top steps are still 3 feet across, he is too close to the kid to be safe.

u/Half-deaf-mixed-guy 18h ago

Over balanced? I've been skateboarding for 34 years and have never heard that term ever and I think you just made it up and I don't think you know how skateboarding works and you're all outraged about something that never even happened. Why don't you check yourself and live in reality for 2 seconds. Unless of course you're scared.

Everyone is aware of each other here. The kid and skater see each other, the kid is calmly/predictably walking up the stairs, the mom (presumably) is unfazed by what's going on meaning the skater has probably been giving this a few tries.
Skateparks are full of kids running around and scooting around too. Skating in that environment gives you a lot of awareness of your surroundings and how people in your vicinity are likely to move. I understand the concern but the skater here is good and doing something very much in control.
7
u/Objective-Slice-1466 14h ago
While I see the point in this instance I disagree. Both were minding their business and prob

skateboard. Go to a skatepark if you want to do shit like this, not on a public stairway.
You know what existed long before skate parks?
Skateboarding.
Long before your AARP card dudes were shredding in the streets, not giving a fuck and being punk rock because that's what skate culture is built on, and fuck your attempts to draw a circle and tell people they need to do their dance in it.
I imagine the mom was cool with it because she saw that this was a talented individual practicing his passion and that her kid was unlikely to be harmed. It's a great lesson for society in general, because it teaches parents not to helicopter over their kids and bubble them from all harm, the kids get to see cool stuff and be a part of the fun.
And then we have people like you, old, bitter and completely disconnected from passion who like to stand on a pedestal and shake your fist at the clouds over theoretical harms that are non-existent
Let me just say it to say it - fuck you and your bitch ass mentality. Yes the kid could have gotten hurt. Not much, but a little bit. And if they did it would have been a good lesson for them all.
Stop trying to protect people from non-existent harms. Fuck your white knighting. Go back to watching commercials on the TV boomer.

Why every time I see a skating video is somewhere in Barcelona?
I have never been on this exact part of Barceloneta, but the bollards, the trash bin and the pine trees looked familiar. Looked up the name of the business he passed at the end of the video and there it is, a superyacht agency in Barceloneta

Step one - spend at least 5 years getting really good at skateboarding.
Step two - try this 30 or so times until you get the perfect shot.
Step 3 - have someone on the internet completely bastardize the title and make a logically incorrect premise on top.

Look at how much ‘left to right’ distance he used from bottom to top.

How do you ‘lift’ the skateboard if your feet are going off it? It’s not like one foot is lifting it from beneath and it’s not like the feet are strapped to the skateboard. Can someone explain the ‘physics’ of it?
6
u/MMMPlaydoh 17h ago
The back foot pops the board, giving it the initial vertical thrust, you then slide your front foot forward up along the grip tape to move that thrust horizontally, allowing the board to flatten out and lighten, rising up with your jump...or something
2
u/EatYourCheckers 10h ago
Watch the video again. He is pushing down with his backfoot, the back of the board goes lower. Since its a board of wood, this makes the front go higher. Once its as high as he needs, he pushes down on his front foot to even out the board again.
