[The Athletic] Garrett Wilson on interactions: “People might value my five minutes differently because of what I do for a living. I don’t see it that way, so at the end of the day it’s nothing for me to just interact with someone. If someone says hello, we talk. That’s how I’ve always operated."

Wouldn’t have thought CeeDee was even old enough to watch The Undertaker, lol.

He is 27 so Taker was wrestling his entire childhood.

You did a fabulous job asserting dominance with this reply.

Which is mad, as I'm 49 and he was a big part of my childhood too! I still remember my mate telling me about him as a new wrestler in the car on the way home from a youth football match.

Edit: fixed autocorrect

My buddy was into Kane and Undertaker and I was into Triple H and Shawn Michaels. We stopped caring about wrestling about 20 years ago, but apparently there was a tag team match between those guys a few years back which is cool.

Man, the attitude era was PEAK wrestling.

Shawn Micheals' heel turn on Marty Jannetty was iconic.

It was a match for one of the Saudi shows. All four had retired but got a massive bag to reunite for one last show.

The Undertaker is Jewish?

garrett wilson was born in 2000. Undertaker was featured as one of only 10 wrestlers in the video game WWF Super WrestleMania that came out in 1992 on sega genesis and super nintendo.

Yeah I was boutta say I’m only 25 and even then he only properly retired in 2020 even though he’s been a part timer since 2010/2011

Taker wrestled during his conception!

I am 43 and Taker was also wrestling my entire childhood. But also my adulthood, the math checks out.

u/maverickhawk99 7h ago

We’re gonna have kids in the NFL soon who only saw old man Cena and not Super Cena

Undertaker didn't retire THAT long ago, how old did you think CeeDee was?? Lmao

17

u/sonfoa Panthers 13h ago

For real, either that or he thinks Undertaker retired in like 2005.

Does mister compact disc lamb remember the legendary Biker Taker in all his nu-metal mixed martial arts glory though?

I wish I didn't.

I just looked it up and CeeDee is 27. So CeeDee didn't get to watch most of Undertaker's prime but he would have been old enough to watch Taker vs Punk or Taker vs Shawn Michaels 1&2.

u/TheUglyBarnaclee Jets 14h ago

Im also 27 so he probably did see some of Takers prime just like me and other kids did. He was probably a fan from mid 2000s to early 2010s when Taker imo was having classic WM matches left and right

u/ExpertCauliflower838 Bills 14h ago

Yep, I’m 29 and this is my lived experience. Lately I’ve been watching a lot of old WWE and WCW and Taker had so many classic matches, plenty of them in the mid-late 00s and early 10s. Last night I watched Taker & Batista vs. Michaels & Cena from No Way Out 2007, great bout.

His prime was just prior to and during the Attitude Era. But funnily enough his best wrestling came in the years you described.

2

u/ImmortalMoron3 Jets 8h ago

I think theres a difference between prime agewise and prime wrestling wise.

If we're talking his prime as a wrestler, its absolutely 2005-2014. He had the occasional decent match during the Attitude Era but it was really only when he went back to the Deadman gimmick that he became an amazing wrestler.

u/BokuNoNamaiWaJonDesu Bills Bills 3h ago

I enjoy the cheesiness of the early deadman stuff that was super over the top with Paul Bearer like a late night TV illusionist gimmick, but yea, that return to being the deadman after the (honestly pretty lame) Biker Taker gimmick just hit perfectly. Combo of fantastic character work and really entertaining WWE style matches.

u/SoulReaper12 49ers 3h ago

I know people look back at it with fondness now, but American badass gimmick was shit, especially since the Ministry of Darkness was so cool.

u/AnswerMaleficent5744 Cardinals 10h ago

Undertaker vs Mankind Hell in the Cell was the peak. The script to that chaos was don't die during the act. Unfortunately it was so insane it let to Owens Hart doom a little less than a year later as Vince wanted better and better stunts.

Wouldn’t have thought CeeDee was even old enough to watch The Undertaker

Im only 2 years older and got to watch his string of matches from Mania 23 to Mania 30

Idc if I missed the 90s im a 'taker head for life

Undertaker was still wrestling periodically in 2018-2020
