[The Athletic] Garrett Wilson on interactions: “People might value my five minutes differently because of what I do for a living. I don’t see it that way, so at the end of the day it’s nothing for me to just interact with someone. If someone says hello, we talk. That’s how I’ve always operated."

Yeah I was gonna say. "An all time great"? How about THE all-time great? Jerry Rice was a psychotically hard-working dude, but otherwise a great and grounded guy off the field.
Being a head case has absolutely 0 correlation with greatness, but does have extremely high correlation with causing locker room issues and flaming out of teams/the league entirely

u/MicrosoftOutlook2016 Texans 7h ago
So he was very nice and honestly for me, with how many jerks there are, i appreciated a lot and didnt sour me on him despite the stress it caused me for half a year lol.
That being said he was beyond late doing what he needed to do and getting it to me, missing a lot of deadlines, and damaged the stuff we lent him and didnt tell us until we found out and asked, which, credit to him for not lying about it because he couldve said it was damaged during shipping. He also was super unresponsive which stressed me out as we had deadlines to hit before the year ended.
On the other hand, i understand the lateness and the slow responses because it was during the season and he was probably locked in, trying to be at his best.

Shout old to a random Packers WR from the early 2000's Corey Bradford. He spent 5 minutes chatting with 10 year old me and my dad at a hotel in Chicago before a Bears game. He let me wear his #85 bling necklace too. Little things like that go a long way. I will always remember him.

Bradford holds the record for the lowest career catch rate in NFL history (minimum 200 career receptions), catching only 45.7% of the passes that were intended for him.

It's honestly ridiculous that more football players don't have the same mindset. It's not like they're CEOs of major companies who have 10+ hours of meetings every single day and probably have to be at a meeting in 15 minutes if they're out and about. They practice, they workout, and they watch film. If they're not doing one of those things, they don't actually have things to do at the moment.
6
u/notLennyD Packers 4h ago
Do CEOs have 10+ hours of meetings every single day? I doubt it.
For pro athletes, practicing, working out, and watching film is a full time job (they also have team and positional meetings).
2
u/D45ers Panthers 3h ago
Ya mostly. A lot of CEOs are like rentals these days. 2-3 year hire. Do all the dirty work and put their name behind all the unpopular decisions no one likes, layoffs, announcing bad shit for the company. It’s really like Roger goodell. They are figure heads for the board members lol. Paid to be the voice and fall guy make millions and fired with a package lol
2
u/notLennyD Packers 3h ago
I doubt Roger Goodell is doing over 10 hours of meetings every single day. Maybe if you count the weekly golf outings, and the expensive lunches and dinners or whatever. But if we’re going to count that stuff, we can probably count every meal an athlete eats toward their “work time”.

My take on Wilson,
Dude is such a slept on WR, like seriously. When he’s healthy Wilson is a beast. He’s balled out when he’s played, and he’s played with some pretty awful QBs. Now he’s got Geno Smith at least. My fantasy leagues always underrates the hell out of him, and so do a lot of other people. I really think its just because he plays for the Jets so people dont really care?
Idk, that being said, he’s also a great guy off the field. Dude is just a stand up guy. Respect the heck out of him and it looks like the Jets got a really good guy.
