I wanted Switzerland this year to qualify, it was such a great song and performance, it was worthy of at least a spot in the grand final. I do not agree about Cyprus 2022 and Poland 2024, Andromache was very bad vocally, but again Antigoni qualified somehow and Luna's staging had too much going on and vocals were not that good there.
Luna's vocals were shaky but the staging was the real problem for Poland that year. Way too many things thrown at the wall and most of them didn't work. I still haven't forgiven their staging directors for cutting away from her on both of the big chorus hooks, or making her lie down while singing them.
I loved some creative directions of that staging (the two towers, dancers taking that red coat off her) but the rest was just... weird. I got no idea what it was trying to do. But the worst thing was THE MOTHERFUCKING CHOREO.
That staging was hard to watch. Also her makeup and costume falling apart. I get that she doesn't dance, but those lift ups and moves were also miserable.
Austria 2022 def could have been stronger vocally but that song was so damn good I didn't even care lol
I remember reading reports that Aiko was rehearsing in Joost's place after his dq and then they refused to let her go in the lineup because it would "break the tradition of not revealing who came in what order" or something? No matter how I feel about the circumstances, she's the only contestant I can think of who was robbed of a deserved place in the same final twice and I'm still not over it
I dont know if it should qual based off what typically quals in eurovision but switzerland 2026 was my favourite from that year and i was pretty sad it didnt qual but wasnt shocked
I was just talking about this one with some Eurofan friends the other day. I really like the song, but the staging and his style were a terrible mismatch for it. It's hard to buy that he's shy and trying to work up the courage when he's bedazzled to within an inch of his life and surrounded by microphones. The whole package was just too glam when they should've gone with a more serious and earnest vibe. My $.02 worth anyway.
Fr tho like the major 180 that Klemen did was insane, how he went from making silly parodies about politicians to making deeply authentic and emotional ballads that are that good is crazy
And he’s kept doing that too (if you haven’t listened to his Golden Hour album I cannot recommend it enough)
It was brilliant and so was she, they just gave her too much to do and the whole thing felt jumbled :( Still my most played song from that year's contest even if it wasn't part of my three-way tie for #1 that year (Norway, Luxembourg and Cyprus lol)
I love/hate the 2013 juries, on one hand they screwed up Montenegro, Bulgaria and Switzerland on the other hand San Marino would have qualified with the juries and they pushed France a bit in the grand final
imo how did iceland, estonia, and armenia qualify in 2013 tho, there were these countries that you mentioned, like iceland is nice, but imo same level as cyprus, estonia, i really like it, but over montenegro? no. and armenia, NO. they pulled an attempt at being sweden/azerbaijan, but sucked.
i feel like the smaller countries should have some kind of advantage, like maybe a bonus 12 points, its harder for them as they get ignored, and dont have much money to send the best performances. This will possibly make more money for the ebu, the smaller countries will likely want to compete more, and more countries.
Belarus 2004, Czechia 2009, Moldova 2014 and both of the 2023 entries are definitely... choices
I know TVR screwed Theodor over with the acoustic bit which did kill the song a bit, but that was no reason to deliver what are arguably the worst visuals of any entry in modern Eurovision
My picks for these years would be Monaco 2004 (although the NQ lineup for this year was quite atrocious and generally deserved), Macedonia 2009 (same thing), Ireland 2014 and Latvia 2023
The rest I generally agree with, in the sense that while there are songs that I may prefer, I wouldn't mind if any of the ones you listed went through
Oh my I completely forgot Evridiki was on my list for soo long. Now I watched the live performance and totally understand why it flopped. Live vocals were way too strong. So were her eyes
i agree with 2004 (both) 2006:belgium 2007: (both) 2008 (Macedonia and San Marino) 2009 (Montenegro) 2010 (both) 2011 (norway and slovakia) 2012: (all but slovenia) 2013:all but cyprus 2014 (both) 2015: belarus and ireland 2016 (both) 2017 (estonia) 2018: all 2022 (both) 2023: (netherlands) 2024: malta 2026: montenegro and switzerland
I came back for this one because I still can't believe Luxembourg 2026 didn't qualify. Yes her live performance wasn't great, but it's my favourite song of the year (Eurovision or not!)
