How do you find friends?

How do you find friends on campus? I'm a freshman and Ive gone to club meetings and talked to my classmates, but I still have not been able to find a lot of friends. I've seen people who come here and have multiple friends within the first week and I'm worried about not being able to find people to hang out with. Is there somewhere else I could maybe look?

I had this issue when I first went to NMU.

The easiest way is to get to know the people in your major. Or join clubs relevant to your major or your interests.

I graduated from NMU last year, I did the Baja Racing club and most of the people i still talk too came from there.

Would reccommend joining that btw if you want to learn how to race Baja cars :)

I think I might see if the DND club is doing meetings then. Thank you!

Definitely check out the clubs. Anything that you are interested in or sounds interesting to you. Show up to all the meetings/gatherings and give it time, you’ll find your crew.

I am in a DND group, not affiliated with NMU, it is it's own thing. If you want I can send you my phone number and get you started with us? We are just about to do our first meet this Sunday.

Join orgs, go to house shows, parties, any of the venues in town - superior culture, black rocks

I made friends through house (hall? i cant remember the difference) events! Mine would have movie and craft nights, I went to the meetings and would go to whatever events peaked my interest! Ended up meeting my best friend at a movie night

I might try that too. Problem is that my hall typically does events while I'm at work, but if I have a free day I'll check it out 👍

I'm super introverted IRL and really struggled with this my first semester too! I noticed there were a few people in both my classes for my major that semester, and I just started talking to them. I was an Art/Design major, and due to how classes work I ended up getting to know a lot of people in my concentration. I also started to talk to the people I sat next to in class!

Clubs too! I saw in a comment you mentioned DND club, there's a lot of groups on campus, both official clubs and casual groups. Most of them are pretty chill!

It was really hard for me to break out of my shell initially, but that really helped! Just be as authentic as you can be and you'll get there, sometimes it takes time :)
