In-Person Experience Megaguide!

Use this thread to ask any questions about attending a game on campus! Food, activities recommendations, and more! This will be a living document that updates as items change

For general recommendations, check out the Notre Dame Hospitality Website!

Food & Drink

  • On/Near Campus:
    • Linebacker Lounge (The Backer): Popular dive bar just off the SE corner of campus. Especially popular after the game!
    • Taphouse on the Edge (Between the Buns/The Buns): Sports bar just off the SE corner of campus
    • O'Rourke's: Irish pub and Eddy Street staple just South of campus
    • Brother's: Classic sports bar and Eddy Street staple just South of campus
    • Knights of Columbus Steak Sandwich: Offered pregame; always a highlight! Located on South Quad near the Golden Dome
    • Student Concession Stands: Student clubs and activities raise money for the year by selling concessions - brats, hot dogs, hamburgers, and more. Located on Library Lawn just below the watchful eyes of Touchdown Jesus
    • Rohr's: Located in the Morris Inn, excellent modern American food
    • LaFortune Student Union: Good variety of different options and open to the public. Located in center campus, near Stonehenge
    • Legends: (Note: reservation only on game days) Another solid modern American option
  • Off Campus:
    • Fiddler's Hearth
    • Evil Czech
    • Nick's Patio (open 24/7!)

Activities

  • Game Day Traditions and Events; Further Options
  • ND Game Day Guide for Families
  • Campus is quite beautiful, especially in the fall. A simple wander around is a great way to fill 2-3 hours. Notable attractions include:
    • Word of Life Mural (Touchdown Jesus)
    • Basilica of the Sacred Heart
    • The Grotto
    • Main Building (Golden Dome)
    • Clarke Memorial Fountain (Stonehenge)
    • Jordan Hall of Science Museums
    • Statue of Moses (First Down Moses)
  • Band and bagpipe performances happen throughout campus on gamedays. See the link in the first bullet point for more.

Parking

  • Campus Travel Guide
  • On-Campus Gameday Parking
    • Shuttles run all day until an hour after the game ends
    • On-Campus/Campus Adjacent Lots Serviced by Shuttles:
      • Blue
      • Gold
      • St. Mary's
      • Holy Cross
      • Bulla (ADA Only)
  • Other parking is available ad-hoc around campus. Look for grass lots and homeowners holding signs
  • A limited amount of on-street parking is available South of campus. You'll need to arrive early in the day to snatch this.
  • Exit to the Toll Road (I-90) is at the North-West corner of campus at the intersection of Douglas Road and Business 31.

Travel

  • From Chicago: There are a wide variety of options including South Shore Rail to SBN and a shuttle from the airport; Uber (expensive); car rental (easiest) - take I-90 right to campus; apparently there are buses, but none of us mods have much knowledge of that!
  • From Indianapolis: Come by car. Drive up US 31 - business 31 is the road on the West edge of campus.

Tailgating

  • Check out Blue, Stadium, Joyce, or Burke Lots. Really anywhere on campus. Wandering around and being friendly goes a long way!
  • Tailgates start throughout the day, with some starting as early as 8:00 breakfast when the lots open.
  • The environment is usually pretty lax; just don't be a jerk.

Gameday Procedures & Details

  • Clear bag policy: Security is very strict about this one. If you bring a bag to the game, it must be completely see-through.
  • Lower bowl sections range 1-36, going clockwise from Touchdown Jesus. Upper bowl sections range from 101-136.
  • Warmups and on-field activities start 30-45 minutes before scheduled kick, with the team entrances ~15 minutes before kickoff.
  • Doors open 90 minutes before scheduled kickoff.

FAQs

  • How is traffic? Add extra time to get to campus, as traffic is rerouted to only a few pipeline roads
  • What should I wear? Blue, Gold, and/or Notre Dame Gear. The Shirt is always a good option, and it is usually on sale in the bookstore until sold out. Exception: Stanford is the Irish Wear Green game. On October 10, wear Green instead of Blue or Gold!
  • When is the player walk? The player walk or Victory March starts from the Basilica 2.5 hours before kickoff!

Discussion Brady Quinn calling out the Fox anchor as "Embarrassing" on national TV

In case anyone missed it: about 10-15 minutes into today’s Big Noon Kickoff, Rob Stone teed up the ND–BYU preview by saying today is finally ND’s first real test.

Brady Quinn flat out called him and his take Embarrassing.

Need more ND guys stating facts like this. Would love to see others do the same with Kirk and the ESPN idiots.

Fight fire with fire.

I swear... these talking heads dont think before they talk.

Notre Dame will have potentially 4 ranked teams on its schedule at the end of the season. Not to mention a lot of these teams were much better when these games were actually scheduled.

Discussion If ND should win tonight…

…look for the narrative to change. BYU leading up to the game is ND’s first ā€œreal gameā€ vs a ā€œreal opponentā€ and a ā€œreal threatā€.

If ND wins, they’ll quickly become a paper tiger who was overrated and Miami will become ND’s ā€œfirst testā€.

Discussion UGA in a dogfight early against Auburn. A loss there takes us to #1

• Upvotes

UGA was a 20 point favorite today AT home - if Auburn sneaks out a win, cue the ESPN summary- a "legit quality SEC opponent win for UGA resume"

And last year ND smashed the wheels off Arkansas and nobody counted..

1 ND vs 2 Miami is still very much on the table.

Discussion INDIANA vs OHIO STATE

Have to be honest…the way Indiana has played so far this season, I thought Ohio State would win relatively easily. But it’s been a bit of a sloppy slugfest from both teams.

Question I come in peace... Is this a tradition I dont know about??

Post image
• Upvotes

I'm a BYU student that comes in peace. I am at the game and saw the players circling the Y at the center of the field and everyone around me is a bit confused. Is this a tradition that I dont know about that they usually do? Can't wait for the game tonight!

Question I think I’m a Notre Dame Football fan?

For context, I’ve been searching for a college football team to support for years. I’m from Missouri so always kind of associated with Mizzou, but I wanted to PICK my own sports team for once not based on where I live. I’ve been playing college football 27 recently which made me look at every team and I sorta gravitated here. The uniforms are sick, I’m partly Irish and catholic, and it’s not a hugely ā€œbandwagonedā€ team (from what I can tell). I don’t like teams that are just good at everything because that’s boring to me. I like the struggle and the ups and downs. What can you guys tell me about this football team that would make me fall for it even more? I’m interested to get to know this team, the culture, the history etc. Thank you for your time!

Discussion 24-Team Playoff

This is bothering the fk outta me.

I LOVE regular season college football. It means SOMETHING. Or it used to. Every week on the edge of your seat hoping your team can come out still undefeated. Hoping at the end of the season your team can at the very least have only 1 loss.

This will completely destroy the regular season. 3 & 4 loss trash teams with pu**y schedules will get into the Playoff now.

It's a GD clown show.

Discussion BYU is apparently upset about Notre Dame skipping the pop tart bowl.

Heard that in some of the talk this week. Also reddit in generals seems to have a stick up their rear about the Irish skipping the bowl.

I dont really understand it. The news was put out that the team had a vote and decided against going. Why would anyone have a grudge against that exactly?

Its not exactly like a Kellogg Pastry snack is a time honored tradition in college football. Its not an insult to college football to skip what is basically a three hour commercial.

Redditors in general act like this is some sore spot where they try to beat us over the head with it. It doesnt make any sense why fans or the team would be embarassed about not attending something that, after this year, will not have any real meaning with the extended extended playoffs.

Question Watching the games

Hello again. I’m trying to find a way to watch today’s game. From what I’ve been told the home games are on Peacock (which I have so that’s good). But the away games are streamed on whatever streaming license is owned by whatever team they’re playing. I don’t have cable tv, and I don’t want to pay $80+ a month for live tv (YouTube, direct-tv, etc). Online it says their games are on espn, but would that be ESPN select or unlimited? Does anyone here have something similar?

Discussion ESPN Immersive on Meta Quest: Watch Notre Dame vs BYU LIVE in VR

Post image
1 Upvotes

A heads up that Notre Dame vs BYU in immersive 180° is streaming live today, with kickoff at 4:30pm PT / 7:30pm ET šŸˆ

No. 2 Notre Dame brings its 6-0 record to No. 8 BYU, also unbeaten at 5-0. Watch it live from the sideline in immersive 180°, 8K with Dolby Atmos.

You can also catch the immersive full-game replay and highlights on demand after the game. No ESPN subscription required. Available in the United States on Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S. Before the game, update the TV app to the latest version. You can select Watch to join the immersive live stream 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.

How to watch

  • Launch it from your Quest 3 or Quest 3S: Open the TV app. You'll find the game in the featured spot on the Home screen and in the Immersive and Sports tabs. 15 minutes before the scheduled start time, a Watch button appears to the left of the "+ Watchlist" button.
  • Get a reminder: On your phone or computer, open the event page and click "+ Watchlist" to get notified in the Meta Horizon app or in your headset.
  • Launch it from your phone or computer: At game time, click "Open in VR" on the event page and the game page will open on your headset.

Not working for you?

  • Check the basics: You need a Quest 3 or Quest 3S, the latest TV app, and to be in the US.
  • How to force a TV app update: To update the TV app, long-press its app icon, go to Settings, and update. Updating your headset and restarting helps too.
  • Only seeing a Disney+ Watch option? The Disney+ button is the regular non-immersive broadcast stream. The Watch button for the immersive stream appears to the left of "+ Watchlist" once the stream goes live, 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.
  • Still having issues? Help us help you: quickly press the Meta button on your right controller 5 times to open the bug reporter, then tell us what happened. Learn more about reporting a bug.

šŸ” Can't watch live?

  • The full-game replay is in the TV app for 7 days, and highlights go up the next day.

More info on the Meta blog, including more announced games

Disclosure: I work at Meta and worked on this. Would love to hear your thoughts if you check it out. ā˜˜ļø
